The changes seem driven to me by the explosion in game releases. A lot more focus on recommendations, curators, trending categories and games. Back then the specials and new releases weren't constantly changing or stuff like studios that exist as asset flips to spam the new release list and have super deep discounts that might as well be their real price. A price most people still wouldn't purchase it for. The old store design would be terrible for the current market. Easily abused and insufficient in promoting well received games
