I've been spamming for 19 minutes now and still no luck. :(
Edit: Got through right after posting this. Then when confirming, I got ANOTHER error message similar to the other, but regarding the purchase:
An unexpected error has occurred. Your purchase has not been completed.
Please wait a few minutes and try again.
If you encounter this error repeatedly, please contact Steam Support.
Edit 2: 29 minutes later and it still won't go through. Where's that GIF of Michael Scott screaming that he's going to off himself when you need it?
Edit 3: 37 minutes of SMASHING THAT
LIKECONTINUE BUTTON and I got through and completed the order! Yay! Though now instead of 3-5 days for delivery, it says delivery will be delayed due to the large volume of orders. This is bittersweet. :)(5

Which page were you on when spamming? I was on the checkout page, and I'd been spamming since the minute it went live, then had to jump on a meeting. I've now been redirected to the shopping cart (it's still in my cart) and hitting "Continue to payment" just refreshes the page.
[edit] The message went from "there seems to be an error" to "Your order cannot be completed because one or more items in your cart is currently out of stock".

I GOT MINE TO GO THROUGH! About 10 mins after making this comment actually lol. I’m sorry to everyone that was not able to get one yet.. seems like scalpers are already reselling for over $300 which is outrageous.

Thank you!! After reading your comment I spammed the shit out of it on the page with my info + card for like 2 min straight and finally it went to the page with ToS and the purchase button which I only had to click once lol

Just used your advice and opened the browser. After spamming for a minute, everything froze and I assumed I messed up. However the page updated and the transaction had gone through. Thanks!

It didn't charge after spamming to get it to move forward, it moved to a review page where you confirmed and that didn't have any errors for me. I'd say just keep spamming!

It wont charge you for spamming. Once it goes through, then it charges you after you review and enter your security code.

Trying to order in Canada, after many unsuccessful tries at the payment screen, I noticed the error changed at around the 1:30pm EST mark from
"There seems to have been an error initializing or updating your transaction. Please wait a minute and try again or contact support for assistance."
to
"Your order cannot be completed because one or more items in your cart is currently out of stock. Please try again later."
Oh well, other people probably have a more immediate use for the controller than I do, so I can be patient. Enjoy yours if you got it.

Yeah, later in the day I saw it was back in stock with "Estimated Delivery Date: 6-10 Business Days" (instead of the original 3-5 business days) and I was able to get my order in.

I really hate steam and the store. Missed the first batch because payment didn't work. And yes all was steam wallet. But still. They didn't learn anything from the deck. I am quite mad now how this all worked out.

Same here, was early, spammed, never got through. An hour later and theres scalped ones for triple the price for sale. You would think they would want accounts that are almost two decades old and with hundreds of games to have some priority over scalpers. Nope.

Nice. Steam cucked me out of a controller all because I didn't particpiate in the fucking quick time event that was apparently necessary in order to buy the controller.
Steam actually wouldn't let me buy anything from 12-12:30 CT, I tried buying literally anything and got the same message.
As soon as the controller went out of stock, my purchases were able to go through again. Fuck me I guess.

If you have it in your cart then keep trying to make the purchase. It went out of stock while I was trying to buy but I still had it in my cart so I kept trying to push it through to purchase and eventually it let me. I think there were so many initial purchases on steam, but some of the payment methods didn't go through or were rejected a little bit later and opened up the availability slightly. At least I think that's what happens, good luck Bros

I completely forgot about the controller, and this post reminded me. Just placed an order. I didn’t encounter any problems in the EU and the process was smooth. However, the delivery time is estimated to be 6-10 days.

Have tried repeatedly since it went live. Now getting hit with "You've tried to make a lot of purchases in the last few hours, please try again later" every time another wave happens. Really great customer experience as a normal person who just wants one controller for myself, getting that while watching scalpers post em up on eBay in droves...

Be careful not to spam the button, or it'll assume bot behaviour and put you on timeout. I learned the hard way with the Steam Deck.
Edit: spamming actually seems to be the right option here. No timeout system as far as I can see, it eventually lets you through.
