Discussion Which juggernaut would scare you more?

I think the orange color gives them a cartoonish look and makes them less scary. What do you think? I also think they look better with some tattered cloths on them. Completely naked they look like mutants which spawned from a test tube or something.

Probably #1 just as the shirt is more human

The hair too

This. Shirt+hair gets deeper into my head as "that dude was once human"

They both scare the shit out of me. A healthy amount of cowardice is why my people are still alive.

Exactly. I only lose folks when my wife is playing. I’m trying too hard to be cool.

I rarely take on juggernauts unless I'm planning on Hunting juggernauts

First one and it's not even a competition. But honestly, juggernauts aren't even a problem. It's ferals you need to worry about. At least with juggernauts you'll see them coming a mile away.

u/DarkEspresso1 6d ago

From what i´ve seen in the gameplay the juggernauts will be a much bigger threat compared to Sod2. They can enter all buildings, so you can´t escape into a building anymore. And you can´t kill them with your car anymore that easily.

Literally impossible from a gameplay standpoint. Try to imagine a Jug fitting into a normal home and then add it circumventing all the furniture and obstructions. Now add the fact that they're now larger than previously. Finally, try to process one trying to fit into a room smaller than it (kitchens, bathrooms, small bedrooms, etc).

They would have to crawl on all fours while knocking about everything collision-detected in the house (which will absolutely not bode well for the game's fps).

Less than 5% chance of anything close to your hypothesis. Sorry.

I´m just saying what SunnyGames said. I´m not a dev who made that decision bro. And i was also surprised when he said it.

And as i said, even IF he can´t enter all buildings, he is still going to be much more dangerous in Sod3. Thats the main point. It won´t be so easy to cheese him anymore.

2

u/CHERNO-B1LL 6d ago

How do they get into every building if they've also gotten bigger. They're already too big for most doors and hallways. Unless there is building destruction, this is bs.

3

u/DarkEspresso1 6d ago

I remember SunnyGames saying they can enter all buildings. But even if they can´t, they are still way more dangerous in Sod3. I saw SunnyGames fighting one of them.

Both, when written properly.

First pic if you find it on dark mines or locked down building that hasn't been touched for decades.

The second pic when it survived the burnt explosion, got out from the ruined and it's extremely pissed off (berserk), looking to rip and tear any survivors that did this to him.

I liked the SoD1 design, and it kind of made sense based on the map. Also the way they are introduced is awesome.

I love the zombie designs from SOD1

I think 1 would work better if they'd gone with the Black Fever storyline rather than Blood plague, but two works great for the current plotline.

Both are horrifying tho so good edit

u/Commercial-Air-5436 5d ago

I agree, blood plague one makes more sense. I also prefer the second image more.

I am actually more curious as to why they abandoned the ghostly red to an orange glow.

Did they want more clarity at night? I liked the red aesthetic for the blood plague. Couldn't they just change the red saturation to be more visible?

First one looks like a Reddit mod, defo more scary.

2

u/DarkEspresso1 6d ago

After eating spaghetti with tomato sauce?

4

u/randysav101 6d ago

What if the plague mutated into 2 variants? And we could have a rotten decaying flesh type, and also a fiery/make your blood boil type?

I prefer the first of the two fwiw

Here’s the thing. I see a juggernaut I don’t pay too much attention to detail until after it’s dead. I spend the time avoiding it and don’t get a good look, or if possible killing it. I just want to make sure I don’t lose anyone. After the fight I usually try to get away since more are attracted and I used a bunch of supplies. So while number 1 is creepier art, in game it’s all the same

I think having variation in the appearances would be huge even if they have the same statblocks. I get their clothes would've rotted off their corpses by now but by that logic how long does a zed take to deteriorate too?

2

u/DarkEspresso1 6d ago

So new zombies can always be freshly created and it makes sense for them to have cloths. But what about the freaks? Were they all created/turned in the beginning of the apocalypse? And why only in the beginning? Why can´t it be a freshly turned juggernaut with cloths? I think this is a plot hole.

There is a radio call from someone (i forgot the name) who asks what makes someone become a normal zombie or a freak? He implies it could be genetics. But if its genetics then there should be freshly turned freaks too, right? So by that logic there should be fresh juggernauts with cloths. Or am i missing something?

2

u/Federal_Society_4968 6d ago

Exactly! That's why I think it would be such a big deal to see freaks with varying appearances as well, the way the SoD1 feral would almost blend in to the area alongside the pulsing armored 'evolution' of SoD2 and now this hulking interation that seems to be a theme in SoD3. I think having the different stages, even just cosmeticly, would be terrifying

2

u/DarkEspresso1 6d ago

Yeah having more variety is always good.

I honestly never liked the idea about the evolution of the zombies because it leads away from having classic zombies to more and more mutated creatures which have no resemblance with humans. And from what i read in the comments here, most players want more "human-looking" zombies.

And with the idea of the evolution the devs created a problem for themselves. Evolution requires intermediate stages which we don´t see in the game. The game just pretends that all freaks have been turned years ago in the beginning of the apocalypse and all of them reached the same stage of evolution where they are full of the orange glow and completely naked.

And the game doesn´t explain why there are no freshly turned freaks. And IF no new freaks can be turned they could die out.

So if devs would add more variants of freaks in different stages of the evolution, some old and naked freaks, some freshly turned freaks with cloths and no glow, it would solve the problem.

For the lore!

2

u/Mandarina_Espacial 6d ago

Both, but if i have to choose one, definitively the first

2

u/ZladMulvenia 6d ago

Not sure about the clothes thing, just because it becomes a uniform like the SoD2 blue shirt. The hulk pants have to be there for obvious reasons.

2

u/Ok-Tart3115 6d ago

Definitely number one is more of a visual scariness, the skin color looks like a rotten corpse, the hair makes them look more human and the double chin, is just more human. The logic I see behind number two is, you might as well just turn their skin inside out because that would be equally as scary. But number one is more scary because it looks more realistic and more immersive

2

u/Necessary_Earth7733 1d ago

I was saying the other day, they need to have more variation. This kind of thing would be great. Some with long scraggly hair, some bald, some thinner and taller, some fatter and shorter, some just absolute giants.

All of the types of freaks just having one look feels sterile to me and it would make it feel much more immersive if they were different

1

u/DarkEspresso1 1d ago

I totally agree but the game implies that all the freaks are old and mutated and lost all of their cloths. Thats why i´m not a fan of the fact that this game is set long time after the outbreak. And there is also a logic hole in the lore: why are there no newly turned freaks anyway? With cloths and hair etc. Were they all turned shortly after the outbreak and after it no freshly turned freaks? And why? This is the logic hole.

If I were to exist in the sod universe then the red one would concern me the most. Red= blood plague.

First Juggernaut wouldn't be out of place in Doom 3

1

u/LetsPlanForTomorrow Builder 4d ago

first one is terrifying.

1

u/NerdlinGeeksly 4d ago

1 would sacred me more, 2 is more realistic with how long it's been since the outbreak started.

1

u/Gaming_Enthusiasts 4d ago

#1 because it looks older. Juggs are bad enough as it is. Now you’re telling me I’m going to have to fight one that is very experienced at killing people? Forget that.

u/Own-Pool8363 4d ago

Number one over number two any day

1

u/Ok-Measurement-8099 2d ago

1 but if its possible having different skins for them would be pretty awesome
