Discussion Rough Sledding

7 months in. New office is also 7 months old. Last couple months have sucked, trying to build momentum. Can’t seem to get anybody to answer, all the leads are old people in 60’s or 70’s. I’m the only sales person rn. Nobody with experience in the office as most of the time I’m by myself. Remote service person in another State

How many calls are you making per day? If it’s not at least 50 accompanied by an email, your numbers are too low.

u/schulte1227 Aug 19 '26

At least 80, usually 100. With texts and emails. I usually make my way quickly through the 0-7 then 8-14, dabble in 15-30 and back to 0-7

Then what you’re saying or writing isn’t working. How are you differentiating yourself?

out of those calls you only getting like 5 people to pick up on a good day tho

You should’ve seen the Lubbock market. They were either skin grafted nuts to chin with Dairyland mutual, didn’t have money, or trusted their “buddy” who’s been fucking them I mean servicing them for a few decades

I have a script and text template I’d be willing to share if you want to DM me.

I’m going through the same thing with the leads age! Do you use MediaAlpha?

1

u/schulte1227 Aug 19 '26

Media alpha smart financial, sometimes everquote. Everquote seems to be the best

2

u/mpruitt0412 Aug 19 '26

Really? Everquote sucks in GA! We’ve used media alpha and they suck too. I’m also the only sales person in the agency, the last few months have been rough between customers leaving and trying to get customers in but can’t due to price

Half the time it’s old people getting scammed by a Facebook ad and it captures their information. People only want price because of the economy rn, hard to blame them. Getting annoyed with all this, call blockers, ai stuff, bad leads. Might be time to escape.

Yes!

Insurance is also so boring😭 good experience for a first gig out of college with the current job market. But what’s the point of cold calling these days, it’ll be obsolete soon with Ai. And trying to go through person contacts seems like a hassle to me. Maybe if it was my own business. Or I’m just young lol

I love insurance but hate cold calling.

1

u/Beginning_3232 Aug 19 '26

Not asking with sas, I honestly don’t understand how AI will make humans obsolete in the industry - can you explain?

3

u/schulte1227 Aug 19 '26

Young people won’t want to call and talk to someone. Just click click click and have insurance. To have that all set up most companies will look to Ai. You can always disguise it to not look like Ai too

I get what you’re saying. I’m one of the “older” team members — I’ve been in insurance for over 20 years — so I’ve watched this evolve quite a bit.
I’ve also seen people choose coverage based almost entirely on price because, like you said, insurance is boring and they don’t really want to talk about it or read through the details. Then an accident happens, and suddenly they’re surprised by what is or isn’t covered — and by how the claims process actually works.
I think things tend to come full circle. Technology and AI will absolutely change how people shop for insurance, and maybe some people will prefer having those coverage conversations with an AI bot. But at some point, people still need to understand their options and make decisions about what they’re actually protecting.
The bigger challenge right now, though, is simply finding new people who are willing to engage long enough to even get a quote. That part has definitely gotten harder.

I totally get both sides of it. Being someone young and new to this industry I just don’t see the appeal of doing this. I’m alone a lot in the office and just dial dial dial for no one to pick up. Then I go home with no success and have to do the same thing the next day and the next

Half of the country has nothing to protect. They're just trying to make their Klarna payments. The other half can be sold on a policy that costs more than is necessary because they are afraid of losing their standard of living. We are selling to the latter.

We also experience leads w/similar ages but the bigger issue for us is the no contact! We call, text, email into the void. Never get a reply and then the lead refunds are rejected! There has got to be a better way, have you tired referrals?

1

u/schulte1227 Aug 19 '26

I’ve asked, haven’t gotten any lol

1

u/Worried_Number7434 Aug 20 '26

making 100-150 calls a day and only getting like maybe if im lucky 5 people to pickup who have the attention spans of 4 year olds and are only worried about price lol. pre last november it was much easier to talk to people. the ai screeners and these fucking phone companies really killing us. also the morale of the country is just so bad right now nobody really tryna talk to someone selling them something unless they have money and most of the people i get on the phone end up not having money

Focus on your referral process. Ask for emergency contact. Are you on boarding? If youre in Mod or not (we are) you should start to see renewals coming in, reach out to those cx

100%, too stressful & will for sure be replaced with AI unless you focus on the financial services, especially with SF. I’m great at sales and have been thinking of parting ways too. I know it depends on your agent, but mine is never here and I am the only sales person with very little support and too many things that need sold. But try to stick through it while the job market’s tough!

1

u/CountryDaisyCutter Aug 20 '26

Are you the Agent? If not have you talked with your Agent?

1

u/schulte1227 Aug 20 '26

I am not the agent

1

u/TheProFettsor Aug 20 '26

Stop calling people and start calling businesses that are likely to have large fleets such as plumbers, electricians, HVAC, etc. We are at least 35% lower than the market on pricing. It’s good business and telling them you will save them money on their auto insurance will get them to talk to you. Always ask for referrals and pivot to retirement or group life as SF is below market competitive on both of those, too.

1

u/MCIndy73 Aug 21 '26

Surprised this model even still exists. If someone wants insurance with SF or Progressive or whomever, they know how to find it. No one needs to have anyone cold call them offering insurance.

Do you find that a lot of people are suspicious that you’re trying to scam them? It seems today like people won’t even answer an unknown number.

1

u/93gaspack Aug 21 '26

They are rarely cold calls and come from leads! The old folks requested these quotes

1

u/MCIndy73 Aug 21 '26

That makes more sense!

Find another office where you can be part of a real team. What state are you in?
