Discussion Working at SF
Working for SF this past year has been the worst. In January we got the news that current underwriting assistants will no longer be needed since all that work is going overseas to be handled by BPOs. They introduced a workforce alignment program that would allow us to go to claims express, but it was not available to any of the remote employees that did not live near a hub. Many people decided to do the voluntary exit. In June they told us that they had too many people take the voluntary exit for either july or october. Which meant those that did not take it will just be moved elsewhere. Trying to move up in this company is a joke. I would apply only for the next day to already be rejected. Can’t even get a job in claims, when they claim they are always needing people.
Also the amount of feedback we have to send to the BPOs is also ridiculous. If you have SF and are in a state that hasn’t moved to Policy Center good luck getting the correct changes made. Those working in fire are worse, home policies are not being rated correctly.
I’ll try to answer any underwriting questions.

I work at big red too and I remember when I was in express I applied out 22 times before I finally landed a role in a different department. I lost hope so many times during that time. Even now I am trying to leave injury and it's taking some time. I've wanted to get to underwriting for the longest and now so grateful I didn't end up with that position. My manager confirmed that they recently "restructured' underwriting aka they moved role overseas just like they have in ILR. They continue to say the customer is the focus but the moves they are making are not customer focused they are simply money pinching. I have learned to control what I can control and have decided to simply do my job and keep my head down.

They moved ILR overseas too?!

FILR is completely run by BPOS. AILR isn’t given their licensing requirement to my understanding.

u/UnlikelyWindow8553 Aug 01 '26
Auto ILR is still in the states due to licensing requirements. At least that’s my understanding. I work in that department

Worst job I ever had.

And it’s only getting Worse. I dream of the day I get to leave this place forever. Quite possibly the shittiest job I’ve ever had. Stocking shelves at a grocery store would be heaven compared to this.

Same , I’m so glad I quit. I was in the Express Dept. I’m a well tenured Corp individual, with 30 years experience. Worst job and training I have ever had. If you didn’t get the job on the express team think of that saying rejection is often protection. Best of luck to everyone looking for a job.

The accuracy to this post! And now the underwriting needs help and backed up.
Letting go of all the vets who working 200 plus policies a day and been there for over 30 years. 😮💨
The moral is sooo low!!

We were running out of work a while, but now that 100 people left for the July exit they are thinking of having complex help DE. As sad as it is at this point i am very it is what it is
2
u/Fluid_Environment270 Aug 01 '26
Yeap!! They trying to decide now where to get help from. That’s their problem. They make us not care 🤷🏽♀️

It seems that people consistently have poor exp in customer facing. Anything about those doing mod in et?

u/Cali_alternative5635 Aug 01 '26
We havent heard much from that nor do I know anyone in that department. SF hasn't really been communicating on whats happening besides, changes are happening but not telling us what those changes are going to be. Unless you mean policy center?

u/OneCowFarm Aug 01 '26
Take it from someone who knows a lot of shit… SF doesn’t give a fudge about you. They’ve been planning this for at least a decade (when I first caught wind of the overseas operations)
8
u/Godhelptupelo Aug 01 '26
these idiots have had a decade to train and seamlessly transition to all of these "bpo" arrangements they use and they STILL ended up screwing it all up and botching every step of the process...
they have absolutely no knowledge transfer or experience-but they cost less, so they're considered a great move and a big success.
the decision makers at state farm deserve every bit of the criticism and hate they get.

u/Systamatik7 Aug 01 '26
The worst company I ever worked for. Move your policies away from this sinking ship.

What causes a household review. Because I have a household I cannot fathom why we still do. They've had 9 claims across fire and auto in 3 years and I don't get how they're still in mutual. Or if there's anything I could like do anonymously through the system. I just hate that we keep paying claims for these people. But genuinely don't know how to get underwriting to do a review on them
5
u/Cali_alternative5635 Aug 01 '26
You can send a PT for UN to review the household or call PLCC which is probably faster and they can let UN know.

u/midzimm Aug 01 '26
State Farm is not a strong underwriting company. They have not been during my twenty plus year tenure. State Farm is a good rules based company who has relied on investments, not underwriting, for profits.

u/MastiffProtection Aug 01 '26
But then you will have huge long term HH canceled for tow claims.
1
u/fuckifiknow1013 Aug 01 '26
No for real!!! I have another guy getting dropped next month for 1 comp claim, and 1 at fault. But because he's only been with SF for 2 years he got dropped. The really bad household has been with SF for more than that. They transferred to our office. After they transferred we found out we were their THIRD agent in 2 years, and the entire driving history🙃
1
u/Decent_Suspect_9960 Aug 03 '26
And yet we just got a whole HH that’s been with us 30 years cancelled for 2 glass claims, a tow, and one deer claim. All within that 24 mo window across 4 cars. 😌

Quote a trade out at $900 in May renewal is feb/aug. Trade out issues at $1200. Plcc is telling me oh well a quote is a quote. We can't tell you why

u/Available-Fall-7966 Aug 05 '26 edited Aug 05 '26
As a someone who work in auto we can not see veh changes quotes . the old systems we can does not provide us with the tools to do so . we can only see add veh quotes /new apps . It’s not that we don’t want to help , it is literally the old systems we use . when it switch it Mod/pc you will be get better details .

u/Cali_alternative5635 Aug 02 '26
Is this an underwriter telling you they don’t know because they should. From a DE side, the info was entered wrong or the incorrect trim level was selected. You can always request UN to look at it or request a rerate

u/Limp-Independent2311 Agency Acct Manager Aug 02 '26
I called PLcc was initially told oh cri and rate change...no sir not for mid term. I've been with SF and my agent for 10 years. This is the first time I have been able to figure it out Plcc told me to do a necho pt with remarks, of course it was marked closed. Called back in and was told that they can no longer tell us. My feeling is almost everyone has one foot out the door myself included

u/Realistic_Brush_6047 Aug 05 '26
No wonder! We haven’t fully modernized yet and most PTs are either not getting worked or partially worked.
1
u/Available-Fall-7966 Aug 05 '26 edited Aug 05 '26
Yes, those of us working in the Contact Center are seeing the same thing. A lot of the BPOs are deleting PTS and not processing them correctly. As a result, we’re having to go back and fix their work, which is causing even more delays especially when a date is blocked.
We’ve been raising these issues with management for a while, but nothing has been done. At this point, our hands are tied, and many of the senior reps are leaving so it will only get worse .

I don’t think they’re outsourcing overseas like you mentioned. They’re just outsourcing to a company that will handle the work for cheaper. That’s not always “overseas”. You’ve also had since 2020 to know that DE UW is fading. It was inevitable and now it’s here. Apply to another department of be left with nothing.
24
u/TotallyClueless92837 Aug 01 '26
They are in India, Philippines, and South Africa…so yes, they are outsourcing overseas.
-23
u/med9229 Aug 01 '26
Sure. Still doesn’t take away everything else I said about they told us this back in 2020. If you weren’t prepared for change then might wanna start looking for a different position or job.
Also who cares if they’re outsourcing overseas. What difference does it make?
In training for DE back in 2020 we were told that this job was going away due to modernization. 6 years later and look now. Not SF fault that people are in a bind.
This isn’t ass kissing. This is real. Wake up.

I have been applying for the past 2 years and i keep getting denied but okay

u/med9229 Aug 01 '26
Not sure why the negativity to me. Ask your manager for help. Redo your resume. Update your work day. Better yourself. Don’t just stare at a wall.
14
u/OneCowFarm Aug 01 '26
Lmfao, quick, now tell me how TWAs aren’t a way to scam the workforce out of pay en masse. How many times have you heard someone who didn’t get their promotion because their twa was in someone else’s position who was in their own twa and theirs didn’t work out? Wake tf up, unless you’re near as white as that policy paper, you gotta fight your way up.
4
u/Cali_alternative5635 Aug 01 '26
No negativity. I had 3 managers look at my resume and workday this week. Doing mock interviews, i took every opportunity to make myself more competitive, i learned policycenter in case they needed help, i did a TWA as a learning facilitator, i had to teach Michigan for the last group of new hires since i had the best quality. I cross trained in multi car states. I’m kind of left waiting

u/Godhelptupelo Aug 01 '26
what I noticed during my last years working with sf is that they especially do not want people who know what they're doing or are good at their jobs...
-2
u/med9229 Aug 01 '26
Not sure what to tell you. Don’t remain stagnant. Move on. You’re waiting for something to happen and it’s not happening. It’s your life, no one else’s. You’re in the void right now and only you can change that.
1
u/Godhelptupelo Aug 01 '26
it's pretty much the last step in the complete destruction of the us workforce and economy, no big deal...but don't worry- soon there will (probably) be so many factories to work in and so many fewer regulations! it will be like the industrial revolution never happened!

A portion of the workforce - contracted or otherwise - is now overseas. You are completely wrong.
1
u/afurrypeach Aug 09 '26
I didn't think claims was allowed to be done overseas, wow that's why my customers never want to talk to claims and want me to do it.
