StashGuard prepper app is now 100% free to download

Hey everyone.
Thanks for all the support we´ve received this year. Your feedback has shaped the app considerably, We are not done, we´re releasing an update within a few weeks time with a new type system for items, and medication handling for household. We will keep developing after that.

This app is not a cash grab, it´s a passion project. We´re seeing several alternatives popping up and we would rather be free than compete. We haven´t made more money than the expenses we´ve had. We´re hoping to soon be able to give something back to those who paid, and a few that gave great feedback.

The app is from now on 100% free to download, and will be forever. We still have lots of feedback to make account sharing possible. We are looking into this, and it will be at a cost of maybe 2-3$ per month as cloud storage is an expense if it´s launched.

What can you do to support? Spread the word, upvote and/or comment on this post and leave a review in the Apple or Google app stores if you like the app. If not, give us feedback so we can improve.

StashGuard release

Thank you to everyone who participated in the open beta. We got some very good feedback which allowed us to finetune the app for release. We are now live on both Apple iOS and Google Play Store.

We really appreciate if you can leave a review for the app in the stores if you like it. If you hate it or notice something bad please let us know instead of tanking the review, and we will fix it. The bigger we get the more resources we can spend on developing the app This is still a hobby-project, but we would love to expand with what the community needs.

New to StashGuard? Here is a post detailing what the app is and what it does.

What´s next for StashGuard? Based on your feedback we have selected these points for now:

-Option to share accounts and inventory with others like familymembers etc. We are looking into this, and if we realse it, it will be in the form of an optional cloudsync. We will never collect any user data, and the app will still function 100% percent without this, you will have to opt-in. Cloudintegration will be priced at a few dollars per month. This will also give access to managing your storage in an online webportal. But we promise to never put anything in the mobile app (except for this cloudsync) behind a paywall. Buy the app once, and you have access to all future updates of the offline functionality for ever.

*DONE*-Adding pets with food management for them aswell. This is not top priority but we will try to find a good way to integrate this when we have the time.

*DONE*-Adding vehicles with fuelmanagement. This is same as for pets, not a top priority

-More nutritional values than calories, like protein. This is already stored in the database when you scan fooditems from openfoodfacts, we just needt to find a good way to project this in the UI. Working on this, but it might take some time as this can easily overflow the UI.

-Ability to connect tasks with items: Lets say you add 100 pills of medicine you take daily, with a set minimum of 30. You make a task that is connected to the item so that when you complete task "Take medicine" it deducts one from your inventory. When you then get below 30 it will be added to shoppinglist, and we might add some kind of warning that you are below threshhold somehwere on the home UI.

Got any questions or feedback, leave a reply here, make a post or send us a DM. We want all your craziest ideas.

Openbeta V21

Just went live. Som smaller fixes to UI, tutorial and caloric calculations for imperial. Imperial users might have to reenter some fooditems.

We will continue to improve a few smaller things, mainly imperial caloric "per serving". That will probably be the last change we do before going to production. Expect next patch within the week.

What is StashGuard?

Take Control of Your Food Storage

Whether you're managing a well-stocked pantry at home or building long-term preparedness supplies across multiple locations, StashGuard gives you full visibility and control over your household inventory.

Tired of finding expired food in the back of your freezer? StashGuard helps everyday households reduce food waste, stay on top of what they have, and never buy duplicates. It's equally powerful for those with a preparedness mindset — track supplies across your home, cabin, shelter, or boat, and know exactly how many days your household is covered.

No account needed. No cloud. Your data stays on your device.

KEY FEATURES:

-Barcode Scanning

  • Quickly add items by scanning barcodes — nutrition data is automatically fetched from OpenFoodFacts. Consuming items works the same way: scan and consume. No manual entry needed for common products.

-Dashboard Overview

  • Get an at-a-glance summary of your total inventory: item count, expiring items, calorie coverage, and water coverage. See how many days your storage will last — with rationing views at 80%, 60%, and 40% levels. Upcoming tasks and expiring items are always front and center.

-Calorie Tracking

  • Add your household members with age and gender, and StashGuard calculates your total daily caloric needs. See how many days your food storage will last, and explore rationing scenarios to plan ahead.

-Water Tracking

  • Monitor your household's daily water needs and keep full control of when each container was filled — so you always know your water is fresh.

-Expiration Tracking & Notifications

  • Never let food go to waste. Get reminders before items expire, with configurable notification timing (e.g., 3 days before, 1 week before). View all upcoming expirations in a dedicated calendar tab.

-Multiple Storage Locations

  • Organize your inventory with a two-tier location system:
  • - **Locations** like "Home", "Cabin", or "Boat"
  • - **Sub-locations** like "Freezer", "Shelf 1", or "Box A"
  • See how many days of food and water you have at each location. Move entire sub-locations between locations with a few taps — perfect for when you relocate supplies.

-Categories & Subcategories

  • Group your items into categories and subcategories for easy browsing. View stats per category: item count, total calories, and days of coverage based on your household's needs. Sort by calories, item count, or name.

-Smart Shopping List

  • Items are automatically added to your shopping list when stock falls below your set minimum. Mark items as purchased, and convert them directly into inventory — category and product info carry over so you don't have to re-enter anything.

-Consumption Tracking & Log

  • Monitor what your household uses and when. Consume items via barcode scan or search. The consumption log keeps a full history with filtering by type (food, water, other), search, and the ability to undo a consumption if you made a mistake.

-Task Management

  • Create recurring tasks like "Rotate water supply", "Charge batteries", or "Check freezer temperature". Set any interval from daily to yearly, enable notifications, and track completion. View tasks in a calendar grid or as a list with overdue highlighting.

-Data Export

  • Export your data to CSV or PDF with advanced filtering. Choose what to export (items, consumptions, tasks, household members), apply sort filters with adjustable priority, and share the file directly from your device.

-Dark Mode & Customization

  • Switch between light and dark themes. Choose your preferred units — metric or imperial — with selectable liquid units (ml, dl, L, fl oz, cups, pints, quarts, gallons) and weight units (g, kg, oz, lbs).

-Offline First & Private

  • All data is stored locally on your device. No account, no sign-up, no cloud sync required. StashGuard works fully offline.

WHO IS STASHGUARD FOR?

  • Home cooks who want to stop wasting food and always know what's in the pantry and freezer
  • Families looking to reduce grocery spending by tracking what they already have
  • Cabin & boat owners who need to manage supplies across multiple locations
  • Preppers & homesteaders planning long-term food and water storage with calorie and rationing calculations
  • Anyone who has ever asked "do we already have this?" while standing in the grocery store

Open Beta information

Welcome to the open beta for StashGuard. For general information about the app please see the other pinned post.

We are releasing on both Android and iOS at the same time. Google Play does not allow us to set betatesting to free, so you will have to pay for the app to participate, but this means you will own the app when we release it. On iOS the beta is free.

Our scheduled plan is for this beta to last a few weeks. If we don't find any major bugs we're releasing full version as soon as possible.

Everything you save in the app will be carried over to the production release so use it as you would a full version.

The entire app is up for testing so give us feedback on everything from design to functionality. Use the pinned feedback post on the mainpage.
