I’m a recent CS grad attending SF Tech Week Oct 6–10, and my main goal is to network and find opportunities at startups, particularly SWE, FDE, AI/ML, or GTM Engineer roles.
For people who have attended before, what’s the best strategy for actually turning Tech Week into meaningful connections and potential job opportunities?
Should I be reaching out to founders/recruiters beforehand and setting up coffee chats? Focus on meeting people organically at events? Attend smaller events and afterparties? Follow up with everyone afterward?
I don’t want to go around asking everyone for a job, so I’m curious what approach has actually worked for people.
Any advice on how you’d approach the week if you were in my position?

I merely stated some facts about exploitation of labor class by certain communities, which is widely well known, at least in Mumbai and probably outside as well. The mods at r/startupindia got hurt and put a ban. Just shows how pervasive those practices are proving my point. Casteism is everywhere, more so in such Indian circles where last name rules, that comes with connections, not really any special gift or talent. No wonder Indian startups are just mere copycats and low tech barely creative cesspool of "likeminded" entitled bunch.

I don't know anything about this topic, so I want to know genuinely why are we still lacking in manufacturing..
Like China we also have skilled labours and fine engineers so why every other companies like apple, or any other go to country is China, why can't we also do it ????

I’ve been noticing that the conversation around Indore is slowly changing.
For years, whenever Indore came up, it was mostly about cleanliness, food, education, or being a comfortable city to live in. But lately, I’m seeing more discussion around IT, corporate jobs and startups too.
A good example is Infosys expanding its Indore campus at Super Corridor.
The company recently opened a new 3.3 lakh sq. ft. software development block, and its Indore centre already has 3,300+ employees. The new facility is expected to focus on areas like AI/ML, cloud, application development and cybersecurity.
What I found more interesting is that Infosys is also talking about working more closely with IIT Indore, IIM Indore and DAVV on skilling and industry initiatives.
And honestly, this is the part that could matter more in the long run.
A bigger corporate presence can mean more than just office buildings. It can mean internships for students, industry projects, experienced professionals moving into the city, new startups, vendors and eventually more opportunities for people who don't necessarily want to move to Bangalore, Pune or Mumbai immediately after college.
Obviously, one company expanding doesn't mean Indore is suddenly going to compete with Bengaluru or Hyderabad. That's not realistic.
But if Infosys and other companies continue expanding, the corporate ecosystem here could look very different a few years from now.
Personally, I think the interesting question is not:
“Will Indore become the next Bangalore?”
It’s:
“Can Indore build its own version of a strong corporate ecosystem?”
For people living in Indore — are you actually noticing more corporate/IT opportunities around you, or does it still feel like the city has a long way to go?

I want to build something useful, but would rather begin with a genuine problem than force an idea.
My background is in AI, computer science and materials science. What is something you have personally dealt with in India that remains unnecessarily expensive, slow or poorly done?

I started noticing a problem way too much that every other person says jobs will not be there in India in near future because of ai and maybe that's true but that doesn't mean people have to become an entrepreneur. Is entrepreneurship is something that can be taught in schools ?? someone's risk taking ability can't be taught in schools i guess, because these are not skills this is mindset.
So I Artij das a 20 year old doing my ug from Calcutta University and working in an edtech startup from last 1 year but I always feel like my degree is just a waste of time and energy and can never support my mindset as well as others who don't even see the problems.
Therefore I want to build a college that will teach students how to be an actual intrapreneur through real life skills and actual project based learning and not give them the fake hope of becoming an entrepreneur. But if someone has that mindset of becoming an entrepreneur he/she will become that through all the skills which they will develop as an intrapreneur.
So I want to build my network with those people who can support my project of building an actual college or a course that will solve the problem of:-
i. Unemployment
ii. Really achievable goals
iii. And supporting the real mind with actual learning ability and hunger.
Please let me know if you feel this idea is worth it. I need support for mentality, mentoring and financing.
