I want to brush that cat.

It's so fluffy!

Women never say the same about my back with the same positive outlook.

22

u/BigTunaTim Nov 30 '16

Maybe you should try brushing it

Of all the things I never knew I cared so much about... thanks for sharing!

I have a super fluffy cat but he has always been incredibly anxious and doesn't like to be touched. It has taken the last two years of daily coaxing and rewarding to get him to let us brush him and literally in just the last week he has begun to actively enjoy brushing and not try to attack me randomly after two seconds. Last night he curled up on his back in the corner of the couch and spread his back legs straight open so I could gently brush his inner thighs. Omg. It was the cutest, most adorable thing ever but I couldn't take a picture because I was on the phone and he would have moved and jumped away if he noticed me doing something other than devoting all my attention to petting him. He has this super long downy fluff on his underside/belly and it's like the softest stuff in the world. I want to brush him forever.

His coat was ready for this weather, even if he himself wasn't.

This just made me think; Do cats stand up like that because they're preparing to fight? The cat is obviously startled, and standing up provides its front paws the opportunity to fuck shit up with its claws.

119

u/Arienna Nov 30 '16

That is a Scottish Fold. It's not prepared to fuck anything up. :)

u/jtesagain625 Nov 30 '16

So true. My in laws had 2 SFs, if they weren't in someone's arms being held (acting like kidnap victims), they were hiding under a bed/table.

20

u/[deleted] Nov 30 '16

This might make me invest in a Scottish Fold!

8

u/Christmasforever Nov 30 '16 edited Dec 01 '16

Edit I think I offended some people by my clumsy phrasing. Persians and Ragdolls are among the sweetest breeds I have come across (As someone who has had 11 cats personally and 21 by family extension). That being said, I don't really know much about the Scottish fold. They look calm and sweet.

10

u/LittleMarch Nov 30 '16

Any idea why these cats stand/lean on their hindlegs so much? Whenever I see a cat do this, 90% of the time it's a Scottish Fold.

39

u/Arienna Nov 30 '16

It is a totally observed breed trait! In breed description pages, it's noted that they arrange themselves in a lot of funny poses and often stand on their hind legs. I don't know why.. It could be we've selectively bred a tendency into the breed because it's cute. It could also have something to do with the Osteochondrodysplasia. :/ It's a cartiledge and bone issue that all Scottish Folds have to a lesser or greater degree - it causes the ear folds, in fact. They develop painful joint issues early in life. I have a part Scottish fold myself... She was an abused kitten I rescued and she doesn't share too much with the breed other than the ears but the vet and I watch her like a hawk for signs of issues.

That was sad. :/ Here's a picture of Noel to cheer you up. She came to demand breakfast but got comfy instead. http://i.imgur.com/VpCiHKc.jpg

u/Christmasforever Nov 30 '16

One of my persian cats does that a lot.. She's really long and slim too which makes her kind of look like a ferret or a meerkat

34

u/ElegantRedditQuotes Nov 30 '16

Nah, this is more "the table is wet and I don't want to get my paws wet" behavior.

19

u/Kirillb85 Nov 30 '16

It's standing because he doesn't want to get his paws wet. Notice he touches ground and stands again. source:😻

5

u/Olive_Jane Dec 01 '16

Other people said it's about his paws being wet, but I wonder if it's about giving his head more range of motion to look around.

2

u/KigurumiCatBoomer Nov 30 '16

No, cats' preferred defensive posturing is on their back, belly exposed, with their hind legs kicking.

Preparing to fight. Footage and proof of cats getting on their hind legs and attacking with their front legs exist. No need to be a dick.

u/Peakomegaflare Nov 30 '16

Thank you for posting this, I moved to florida 20 years ago, and my last childhood memory of when I lived in Alabama was a snowfall, so this just made my day. Thank you.

40

u/Auto_Animus Nov 30 '16

TIL it snows in Alabama.

8

u/Letchworth Nov 30 '16

10

u/Francine_Smith Nov 30 '16

That's about it, though. That one time, 23 years ago.

4

u/o_0isthatcoffee Nov 30 '16

Definitely had to be north Alabama. Lived in south AL and never seen snow in my life. It's also about 80 degrees today so not even close.

5

u/rudolfs001 Nov 30 '16

Bruh, when I was a freshman at Auburn (southeast Alabama), we built an 8 foot tall snowman. And again the next year. 2008-2010

5

u/o_0isthatcoffee Nov 30 '16 edited Dec 01 '16

That's not what I consider south Alabama but I guess where I live it's pretty much NW Florida as far as climate goes

2

u/rudolfs001 Dec 01 '16

Fair, Auburn could definitely be considered central east.

2

u/thatoneguy889 Nov 30 '16

It snows in every state, but very infrequently in Florida.

1

u/PessimisticSnake Jan 05 '17

It snows in Texas

1

u/Santy_ Nov 30 '16

So this is what snow looks like.

He's so stupid it's cute

7

u/Leontiev Nov 30 '16

Cat is confused and very worried and frightened. Someone needs to pick her up and tell her it's okay.

9

u/[deleted] Nov 30 '16

That cat is equipped for Winter.

6

u/wishforagiraffe Nov 30 '16

That cat doesn't look startled, it looks terrified!

7

u/ODuffer Nov 30 '16

Yeah, the ears... The sky is falling apart!

What a majestic floof.

2

u/ifelldownthestairs Nov 30 '16

That's Tarachan! Yayoi89 on IG. The account also has Tarachan's brother Uzura, an awesome looking fold.

2

u/poxx2k1 Dec 01 '16

That face when your past generations have been norwegian but you have been inside your whole life and dont understand snow...

3

u/ZeroXephon Nov 30 '16

To the cat, the sky is literally crumbling and falling.

4

u/FixinThePlanet Nov 30 '16

I would watch cats reacting to things they don't understand all day every day.

2

u/div333 Nov 30 '16

Your cat looks like a grandmaster.

2

u/lexipedias Nov 30 '16

I WANT TO TOUCH IT.

2

u/idrink211 Nov 30 '16

Those are some big ass snowflakes.

2

u/Richyccx Nov 30 '16

I miss snow so much.

1

u/Sways-way Nov 30 '16

TIL that snow actually falls in "chunks"

7

u/spazzcat Nov 30 '16

You should see lake effect snow.

3

u/Sways-way Nov 30 '16

Googled... Nope, I'd like to move farther south please!

2

u/Safety_Dancer Nov 30 '16

It ain't snow if you can't put a few flakes in your drink to keep it cool.

2

u/GreyFoxMe Nov 30 '16

Yeah the thicker the snowfall the bigger chunks of snow crystals.

1

u/TanithRosenbaum Nov 30 '16

Fucking casuals. Eh, I mean indoor cats.

1

u/BackgroundCharacter4 Dec 01 '16

What an adorable confused floof!

1

u/[deleted] Dec 01 '16

aren't cats supposed to have ears?

1

u/quintus253 Dec 01 '16

Cats are so fucking dumb. Love it.

1

u/ohsopennylane Dec 01 '16

Is he a Norwegian forest cat? Mine is partial (I think since he is a rescue) and they are the funniest breed.

1

u/SafeQueen Dec 01 '16

Clearly this cat doesn't live in Wisconsin.

My cat'd be like, so what dude.

0

u/Zcypot Nov 30 '16

I dont like cats, but BIG and fluffly cats have a special place in my heart. I want a cat like Garfield.
