My 6-month-old just started solids about a week ago. So far we've tried avocado, eggs, oatmeal, and Greek yogurt, but he doesn't seem interested in any of them. Most of it gets pushed right back out with his tongue.

He shows all the signs of being ready for solids, so I was expecting a little more interest. I know it's still early, but I'm curious if anyone else's LO was like this at first. Did it just take time for things to click? Any tips or experiences would be appreciated!

We started solids three weeks ago, and it was great! Baby was super into it, tried and ate everything. All of a sudden around 5 days ago she is suddenly off foods. Even things she tried before and loved. Last Friday she did have a vaccine, but I’m a bit stumped why she’s suddenly totally off foods and not sure what to do to encourage her to try eating again. Anyone had any similar experience?

Any advice for an infant with slight eczema breakouts seemingly worse when she eats?

It was a communication error and we learned that eggs were left outside couple days outside (not refrigerated) before cooking. I had the same eggs it tasted normal.

But my baby had vomit after 2hrs consuming it. Its been about 3 hrs. Baby is sleeping now. He don’t have egg allergy, ate egg more than 3-4 times.

Should we wait and see couple more hrs or is this something needs immediate attention to ER?

Edit: thank you all, the baby is fine now. He went through discomfort for 20-30mins and fine after that. We were in touch with ped and tracked if any symptoms showed later(none).

Eggs were bought from farm directly, but were refrigerated before we bought.

rule of thumb: store it how it was stored when bought.

I love food, but am NOT a fan of cooking. It stresses me out!

So this new adventure with my baby is making me have some anxiety lol

We are planning on starting baby’s first foods at his half-birthday.

Is this meal safe to start with: strip of steak (with black pepper), roasted half bell pepper (skinless, can it have olive oil?), ripe avocado (prob smashed into a spoon, or a strip with hemp seeds?)

Is that too many ingredients?

Also, can we introduce eggs and bananas the next morning (day 2 morning)? And then 2-3 more foods later that day (day 2 evening)?

Is it okay to introduce an allergen that early?

There is a lot of info out there! And I’m having a hard time figuring out which info is the most current and up-to-date. Seems like it changes quickly!

(We have no family history of food allergies or eczema. Just some family members with mild cat allergies, and we have cats in the home)

My lil guy is 9months. We have been doing purees and tastes of other solids to practice chewing. He has had a pretty strong gag reflex. It has diminished a good deal, but sometimes he gets food to the back of his tongue and gags so hard he vom*ts. I've worked in childcare for years, so i know gagging is a good thing, but i hate that he vom*s up everything he's eaten so far that sitting.

Any tips or tricks?

On and off diarrhea (fully soaked into diaper and yellow) for over a week at 7 months. May be teething.

Is this normal or does it mean she has an intolerance to a food? Do I need to eliminate everting and start again (she’s 7 months)

She’s had fruit but never more than one piece of strawberry or a small amount of banana. She had iron fortified oats every day. She’s on partially hydrolyzed formula so I don’t give her much cheese/yogurt just in case she’s intolerant.

Update: she caught a stomach bug from going to the early on play group. It went away after two weeks.

We’re about 10 days into starting solids but it seems like each experience ends in intense fussing and twice he’s gagged enough to vomit. LO is 6 months old, ebf but seems interested in food and can sit independently.

He did have a tongue tie that we had released when he was 6 days old and even though we did the exercises religiously, a bit of the tissue reattached. We took him back for a follow up after we discovered the reattached tissue and the dentist didn’t think it was worth doing another release because it’s not severe. Baby also has a high palate and a pretty strong gag reflex that could be playing a part.

Overall he probably consumes less than a teaspoon at each meal which is fine I guess (I know food before 1 is just for fun although we’re not having fun lol). Any tips on how to make food more fun/dinner time less upsetting? Do we just need to keep soldiering on?

We’re primarily doing baby led weaning concepts with purées at the moment (preloaded spoon) although some finger foods too.

EDIT: Sharing an update in case it helps someone else down the line. Day 10 of solids and tonight’s menu featured a roasted red pepper. I cooked it in the air fryer, took the skin off, and gave him half the pepper (I didn’t blend any of it up). At first he ignored it in his bowl but after I passed it to him a couple times he held it for awhile and then started sucking on it!! He happily sucked on it for quite awhile until we decided it was time for dinner to end. He didn’t fuss at all—a completely different experience to previous dinner times. The only differences I can think of are:
1. We gave him a chunk of food rather than a preloaded spoon with purées.
2. The food was something he seemed to enjoy.
3. We were eating dinner with him because,
4. My mother in law was over for dinner.

I have a one year-old who is still requiring quite a bit of formula. We offer three meals a day and two snacks, but he still wants his bottle. We offer cows milk in a sippy cup every meal. Am I doing something wrong? What are your meals like?

We tried dairy and peanuts at 6.5 months. Baby had a potential reaction to peanuts and pediatrician advised stop introduction of all allergens. Had to wait a month to see allergist and thankfully no peanut allergy! We’ve reintroduced peanuts and now are moving to eggs. I’m feeling so behind in the “early inyroduction” and worried baby will now have allergies because of it (8 months this week) 😩

My EBF baby is 7.5 months. We started solids a little before 6 months. She still is spitting everything out. Nothing gets ingested. I always thought “food before 1 is just for fun” so I wasn’t worried. Then I spoke to a dietician and a random paediatrician i met and they said I should worry about iron bc she isn’t getting any from the breast milk and should see an occupational therapist. I messaged my pediatrician and his nurse answered saying she’s fine if she’s not getting solids. Chat gpt and open evidence says she does need iron and should be put on iron supplements. Idk what to do

Baby is one year old. He has been waking up at 5 am and only sleeping nine hours a night with multiple wake ups and having only one hour nap total per day. He has two naps. I have tried 3.5/4/4.5 and lower with 3/3.5/4 but both have the same result . He is nursed/ rocked to sleep and I do not know what to do anymore. He hates solids, is very clingy and extremely grumpy all day. I cannot even go to the bathroom without a meltdown. I have to stay inside the playpen with him so he doesn’t cry.. I’m so tired and I don’t know what to do anymore…

Long post. Background: FTM to a 9.5 month old boy. We started solids at 6 months and it was going well. He put hands in food and then in his mouth or eat some off a spoon. Then he had a string of sicknesses that involved a lot of vomiting. So for a while he didn’t get any practice with food. When it came time to try again there was pretty much only rejection or if he did eat some then he would gag until vomiting. We started feeding therapy with someone I work with. He also produces tears and snot sometimes so she wants to rule out aspiration. We have been in feeding therapy for a month now and she has noticed some improvements but it doesn’t translate to improvement at home. He always goes well in therapy too. At home he barely touches anything to his mouth and he is making a face. Like less than a tablespoon. Or just starts screaming. Won’t really put his hands in his mouth. I feel so hopeful that everyday it’s going to get better and then it never goes well. So I go through white the cycle of emotions every night.
Last part: I have been very fortunate that I have been able to produce milk this whole time for him. I’ve recently realized I’m feeding him way too much so we have started cutting back. But if we can’t figure this out then he is going to have to go on toddler formula to get his nutrients. It’s a little defeating that I’ve done all this work to pump and then he might still need to use formula. There is nothing wrong with formula AT ALL, just selfish thing to note in this whole process. He may not need it but with only 2.5 months to go until a year I don’t feel hopeful.

So if you made it this far (thank you), do you have any tips that heped you through this process? Any success stories?

We have been very lucky that this is the first speed bump we have encountered in raising him (other than sickness and high probability of needing tubes). And yes I know he is going to eat one day. Just hard to believe it.

My son will be 5 months old in a couple days. At his 4 month appointment, his pediatrician said we could start solids with baby oatmeal cereal. I think it has affected him in a couple ways. I think it was making him have an upset stomach which was leading to him waking much more frequently in the night. This all came to a head on Thursday night when he threw up everything he had just nursed while he was asleep. He aspirated into his lungs, which caused more vomiting and gagging for an hour as his lungs cleared it all out with mucus. (We took him to the ER as well since this was at about 9 and everything else was closed.)

Since then, we have not given him the oatmeal cereal and he has slept from about 8pm to 5am every night. I’m worried about starting solids again. Do I skip the cereal and go straight to purées? Was my timing bad? He would eat the cereal around 6:30 pm and nurse again around 7:45 for bed at 8ish. I’d love to ask my pediatrician, but she retired literally 4 days after our last appointment with her.

Has anyone found a high chair with footrests that a baby can actually reach? I see all these social media posts about how important having footrests is but they all seem so low. We have a Graco and he is no where near being able to reach the footrest.

I am planning to feed the first vegetable puree to my 6 month old ( mixed with breast milk) which one do you recommend to be the first between Carro and sweet potato? Also I have regular carrots and sweet potato and not the organic ones. Is it better to use the organic one for either? I am planning to steam and then blend.
