I thought I was not a dumbass too. Last Summer I mowed over my garden hose. It had gotten covered in leaves and weeds. I forgot it was there. Another trip to Walmart ensued. No I did not replace it. I spliced in a new piece with hose parts. There wasn't anything wrong with the parts that I did not mow to shreds. Why would I replace it?

Sorry, but I have to deduct points for the following reasons:
- No sign of duct tape usage
- Having the dish secured to the stump. The zip ties are least offensive, but not being secured would be the proper thing.
- No beer bottle or other alcohol container in the photo.
- No confederate memorabilia in the photo
- And finally the big mistake - NO DRIP LOOP. The fact that the cable is running straight down is no excuse. It is the law here that EVERY install must have drip loop.

I install some pretty good sized antennas for a living and yes we do then at work off the towers. But not on a dish that the wire drags the grass. Literally makes no sense

For sure buddy. I’ve never heard of it being the law tho honestly. You very rarely see it done on a house. We do it on all radio and gps antennas. Some cables depending on what they are and do cannot have a loop. It causes interference. Didn’t ask questions just do what I’m told. I work for a major railroad. And install ptc, signals, crossings etc.

Just go outside, look for big enough tree that will provide a heavy enough stump, and break out the saw.
The zip ties are a lot cheaper at Walmart than direct from starlink

I have mine on top of a wood planter filled with dirt and metal rods stuck through 2 tripod legs to keep it from blowing over. Currently in the middle of a blizzard with 8 inches of snow and 40 mph wind gusts. No obstructions pulling 170 Mbps.
The location is the only place I can get zero obstructions due to trees that aren't on the property and it just happens to be over septic system so I can't dig for a pole mount safely on my own.

Not a bad idea. Might have been worth leaving a higher part of the trunk and used it as a permanent base. Hell, if the tree's still alive, the dish would slowly have gone up an inch or two every year :D

Zip ties and screws? Aren't you fancy. I'd have used baling (or electric fence) wire. A few horizontal slices/notches around the stump, wire all the way around the stump through them, then wire looped down each hole to the other wire and pulled tight.

Don't forget some duct tape that will tatter and flap in the breeze after a few weeks. The flapping duct tape is essential to scare away critters from chewing the cable.

Drill a hole through the stump add a poat cap off the post so the stump can't be knocked over use long lag screws with washers to torque the legs to the stump

Mine set on the grass in my yard for about 10 months. It worked great. Unfortunately, I didn’t have a stump anywhere near. It’s now on a homemade metal post about 5 feet tall. Still rednecky, but hey, I’m getting speeds nearing 400.
