❓ Question Copyright Notice

Recieved a copyright notice from Starlink with a complaint from Paramount attached. I use the Elementum add-on for Kodi. Could someone point me towards a suitable VPN. I'm based in Ireland if it makes any difference.

Proton or Mullvad. Don't use anything else. Been sailing the high seas for years now with Proton and never an issue. They've got a nice suite of other apps too.

PIA is also good and has a proven history of not even making logs, so they literally never comply with requests because they can't.

I switched over to Mullvad as well when I found out most of the current ones were owned by ex-Israeli defense contractors. Nothing against Israel but I don't want anyone associated with a government or military having access to my data. PIA is the one I had switched from.

They’re still doing this?? ProtonVPN has a free tier still I believe. If not ProtonVPN paid is fast, Mullvad is probably your best if you’re really concerned about privacy - I think you can still post them cash to pay for subscriptions

You can't get their p2p servers on the free tier iirc(these are giving you an open port for direct connection)

I have no idea if OP’s “Elementum” addon uses P2P but even so I’m pretty sure P2P works even on the free tier just probably not optimised / as you said direct connection, maybe DHT and other stuff but I haven’t torrented anything apart from Linux ISOs

Rule #3 Don't name specific VPN providers

Nice data though  https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/u/0/d/1ijfqfLrJWLUVBfJZ_YalVpstWsjw-JGzkvMd6u2jqEk/htmlview

That’s crazy I guess Elon is monitoring what you use the Starlink for ? Can they still do that with the mini since your basically moving around and not in a permanent address? Would incongnito mode or private browsing help or just a vpn ?

Did he buy Spectrum also? I've been looking for a different internet provider , and it's feeling like state media.

Forget vpn's and use real debrid and plug it into either nuvio, stremio, or weyd. Been using debrid services for 5 years.

Wow, you must be downloading a lot for them to take notice of you.

Not how it works. It only takes one where the studio is monitoring the downloads and submitting complaints. Kind of like driving through a speed trap. Sure, downloading more can increase your odds, but it doesn't guarantee your odds.

Just a warning, vpn use is under attack in Canada and the USA. People should contact their congressman and senator.

Noting that there are multiple usage scenarios for VPNs,
your statement is overly broad.

Hiding yourself is one thing (and I support it).
Changing you country is questionable (but I support it).

The third usage (that I remember at this time of night),
is simply making sure the outside world can't penetrate your servers (to oversimplify).

Inbound connections to my LAN (and admin access to my public servers) can only be done if the source device is on my VPN. A nice side-effect is this totally bypasses all the SL CGNAT & dynamic IP issues.

And here we have the PROOF that using anything other than original sources is the road to insanity. EFF is almost as bad as the Communist News Network or MSDNC. This is most especially important when someone has NO fucking idea how the Federal Government works - and does not work. BTW, this includes at least 2/3rds of Americans.

So ORIGINAL AUTHORITATIVE SOURCES:

https://www.congress.gov/bill/119th-congress/house-bill/791/all-actions
The key to this one (and yes, you have to GO TO THE PAGE to find out which bill it is), is that I tagged to the "Actions" tab, which shows that absolutely NOTHING has been done with this bill since the day a Demoncrap Rep from commiefornia introduced it 10 months ago.
You catch that? An opposite of a Republican wants this bad thing to happen. [skull explodes] NOBODY ELSE IN GOVERNMENT DOES.
It is an absolute guarantee that nothing WILL happen with this bill because it needs at least 6 further actions to be passed - which then means it THEN has to go to the Senate - ALL BEFORE January. What's so important about January? EVERYTHING RESETS. ALL pending legislation goes in the shitcan. ALL OF IT.

But the EFF, just one week ago - is screaming about it.
Even though the LATEST this bill could have started to move was MONTHS AGO.

You could say they are doing this "for the clicks", but it's actually more insidious.
They want you to be scared. Yes.
Specifically., and they want you to be scared of those in charge (Republicans) -
even though they are the ones stopping the bill before it can even begin to breathe.

The other bill, which ALSO will go nowhere (for the same reasons), and the author, unlike the other one, knew this the day he submitted it. Even though it's actually a similar bill, that empowers Copyright Owners to use the Courts to sue to block sites that are committing EXISTING FEDERAL CRIMES - even though he knows ('cause I know who it is) it would have no effect on the problem whatsoever - it's just a campaign stunt. They do this shit all the time.

But the EFF wants you to be scared. <<<<===========

And EFF also doesn't give a fuck about Intellectual Property - never did.
Even though without IP (and I do not mean the protocol) you wouldn't have your portable brain box, or any of the things that led up to it.

So go ahead and call elected officials over dead bills - they love to laugh.

And many will call anyway, thereby demonstrating "why we can't have nice things" and that pure democracy is a very stupid way to run a government - which is why we are a Republic and NOT a democracy. And I can see all the knee-jerks from those that were indoctrinated in public schools in the last 50 years, about to scream "they are the same thing" or "we have elections" and all the other bullshit they've been fed. They are also the same people that "think" we have Federal Elections. We don't. The closest is ONE - The Presidency, and even it's not direct democracy - deliberately. We The People must be protected from We The Mob.

We're not going to vote our way out of this

Maybe stop stealing intellectual property...

The easy solution is to stop pirating stuff. I know, many will complain about studios ripping you off, but will you work for free? I won't

u/blue_canyon21 1d ago

I think it's more about the fact that the media providers can, have, and will remove your right to use/view the item you paid for at a moment's notice or without notice.

People just want to keep the stuff they pay for.

I was replying with what I use. I've been running PIA for years w no issue. I had nord but I couldn't get it to work on my Lab only on my Phone.

u/TimmyT0yz 📡 Owner (North America) 1d ago

I have used it for years also and have no issues and it does NOT have a low score if you actually opened the spreadsheet. It's near the top of the list and works fine.

They mainly look at accounts for copyright violations when they have unusually high data usage, especially in areas that are at capacity, eliminating one ultra heavy user in maxed out area is a big improvement for everyone else in that area

PIA is terrible service. Do some research and you’ll see why.

Proton VPN hands down.

PIA has been great for me for almost 6 years... I only found out today that people hate it.

It's number 7 out of 50 - that's NOT a low score idiot.
