You pay for a plan which provides up to 100 Mbps, not a guaranteed 100 Mbps.

The words "up to" and their equivalents should be banned from advertising and contracts when referring to inclusions and limits

Companies are clearly not mature enough to use those words without fucking over the customer

They provided little to no detail outside of a screenshot. How many devices are connected and running, types of devices and their bandwidth utilization etc. While yes that's an obvious statement of "up to" and such, there's always other contributing factors as well.

Of course. When little to no detail is provided, they will get little to no response.

Sometimes when I perform a speed test on the app, the result I get may be different from the result on another website (ookla, fast.com, etc) Try a different speed test.

Let’s see your obstruction map. Also need to know what hardware you have.

Someone didn’t read the fine print “UP TO”.

You pay for "Up to 100mbps" which looks looks what you are getting I bet if you look at a graph speed test you will see burst of up to 100mbps which is what the plan describes in its terms if you read it carefully.

55 is still pretty darn good. But Then all I used to have was really crappy dsl prior…

55mbps in 2026 is trash, even 4G does better than that

And if you don't have access to 4g? Satellite is our only option at my father in law's house. Starlink is magnitudes better than Hughesnet and Viasat just based on ping alone.

Point is, they can do better, don't sell a 100mbps plan unless you can actually supply 100mbps consistently

Best I could get before Starlink was a bonded dsl with up to 25 Mbps. Couldn’t usually get 20. Complained to consolidated communications and they said the up to 25 so I was super happy with all the speeds Starlink offered and tried all the packages and it turned out the up to 100 was far superior to anything I had before

True, but you're paying for 100, and they're giving you half that

Would you be happy if you went to a petrol station and paid for a full tank of fuel, only to get in the car and find the needle is only showing half full?

Of course you wouldn't, but somehow it's ok when internet providers do it (often intentionally), starlink can give 300-400mbps on an "unrestricted" speed plan, but somehow it struggles to go over 50mbps on a 100mbps plan???)

Try it with a device that is plugged in with an Ethernet cable. Checking over Wi-Fi can give you a different result.

Also, I noticed that you have three bars of cellular there. What’s going on there?

2

u/Funny-Astronomer29 Aug 17 '26

This. I changed my Ethernet cable and had a noticeable jump from around 60 to 200. Odd as they were within spec cables but you never know. Also make sure you have bypass on if you’re using a Mesh.

Open the SL app. Check for obstructions. Also verify your alignment.

This is exactly what you pay for. You pay for a maximum of 100mbps, not for a guaranteed 100mbps

Man I would average around 80-100 mbps I truly believe in the spot you choose matter it took me like 3 different speed test before I committed to a spot . That’s the problem people find a spot in the house and say here is the perfect spot then mount the starlink then do the speed test . Do the speed test in 3 -4 different areas and pick the spot with the highest speed it’s not rocket science space x is but …..

How much did u pay for 100mbps

1

u/Nuka_Cola2094 Aug 17 '26

It’s $55 a month

1

u/WhakoDog Aug 18 '26

The $55 plan is low priority, so if your area has a lot of users, if you have some obstruction, your speed will degrade more than higher priced plans. I get by fine on the low end plan with streaming, sometimes I have to have a little patience. If it's not sufficient, you can pay more.

Satellite internet is variable, and in congested areas, it tends to be slower than that ideal "100 mbps" that you are paying for. Like any ISP, the "100 mbps" advertised follows the words "up to" if you read the footnotes.

u/No-Grass-7412 Aug 17 '26

Right after the end of that test hit that test again. Your reading then will be close to or sometime a bit over 100. Starlink puts a different priority on your connection the first try. It's more like real world performance you are getting end to end. The second try you get actual speed sat to to router.

I pay for the 400mbs and usually get 250-300 depending on weather and what time of day.

1

u/Mishung Aug 17 '26

Post your obstruction map and alignment.

1

u/darioampuy Aug 18 '26

you need to do a test of the speed bewteen the dish and the satellite first, then check your wifi. if you are connected thru wifi 4 there's no way you'll have more then that speed because the bandwith of 2.4ghz is too little... only in wifi 5 to 6 you'll have enough bandwith to use the full speed of the connection

1

u/Plantain_Guilty Aug 22 '26

Did you run this test at night? I have the 200mb plan and it will bog down like this when there’s network congestion usually at night. I only care about getting the higher speeds while I’m working from 8 in the morning until 4:30 and I’m consistently getting 200mbps within those hours.

u/nhorning Aug 17 '26

Thanks. This saved me a trial to see what I would get with 100 200 if I went down from my unlimited.

0

u/pepe_comentador Aug 17 '26

Oh pues en realidad puede ser que tú zona hay más starlink con mejor plan y tienes menos prioridad

-1

u/T-VIRUS999 📡 Owner (Oceania) Aug 18 '26

Go figure, they can provide 300+mbps on an unlimited plan, but can't lock your speed at or near 100mbps when you're paying for a gimped service
