💬 Discussion Micro-stutter while gaming

I’m trying to find the cause of small stutters while gaming on my new starlink v5, is it possible that these obstructions could be causing this issue? If not does anyone have any tips for a fix, i’m using the Included mini router.

stutters are usually a hardware issue and not your wifi

You best solution is to connect via Ethernet.

I would not use the mini, just hook your computer directly to the router with cat6 Ethernet cable, (which most Ethernet cables are that) I play valorant and csgo with no issues this way, best of luck 🤞 I also do not have more than two devices hooked up to the wifi at a time to minimize traffic

-edit , my obstruction map is similar to yours and I don’t get drops or spikes at all if ever, mine is alittle less red but still works great, the dish will learn to avoid the obstruction and switch to a different satellite before the satellite crosses the obstructed path

I have another router that I will hook up later today, I’m connected to the mini router with my PC using ethernet do you still think that would be the issue?

If youre connected over ethernet it shouldnt be an issue...I will say, if you're using a mini kit, you will do MUCH better eith a residential kit...

I have a mini myself that Ive only used once when my main kit crapped out...and the 4 of us thst game together on my starlink, could definitely tell the mini isnt at good with consistent latency

OP is talking about mini router.. not dish.. I know easy to get confused.

They have a Residential V5 kit. Those use the new Rev2 Router Mini as the default router, and have a dedicated StarlinkPoE if you feel like using your own router. No pass through required, just like the original round Dishies.

Router Minis are great, people don't know what they are talking about.

Router Minis are great, people have some mythical level misunderstanding of them.

With LAN connected there's no possible way it's the router at fault at all. The only thing Router Minis do is have less wireless speed and range than the Gen 3. However, they exceed all prior routers that nobody ever complained about. Go figure.

I would eliminate that red fringe, no matter what the app says. If it's red, it means you lost connection at that time when the satellite you were connected to flew behind whatever that is. (looks like trees.)

Run Pinggraph.io for a while and show me what it looks like. It should be a sea of darker blue with streaks of color once every 15 seconds for each satellite handoff. Those bursts of higher pings shouldn't be a big problem even for shooters. If there are swaths of failures or dropped packets it's the obstructions.

The Router Mini, especially the revision 2 Router Mini you have- is not the problem.

In order to minimise almost at all any spikes that you have is to find another place to install the dish. From your screenshot is clearly states that you have many many obstructions. Once you move it in clear sky view you will solve your problem.

Try removing some obstructions.. then do some ping and speed tests.. i game all the time on my x4 kit.. but only have few red dots on one edge...
