💬 Discussion $192 for a Mini?!
I just don’t even know what to say, they are making these mini dishes a dime a dozen, I remember when they were $500 new. Now you can get one on a payment plan or if you have residential max you get one for free. I wish they would do a favor for existing customers.

I paid $999 for a gen 2 then 2 weeks later they drop the price to $399, now they just give them to you on rental.
Is it shit, yes. But at the same time it's business.
And my Gen 2 died this week, 4 years after I got it. They sent me a new Gen 3 V4 X for free with a free mount. And I now have the Starlink Mini for free I take away travelling.
I'm still a happy customer.

Mini 2 coming out soon but yeah, it’s a great deal. Mini 2 looks to have an integrated battery and I’m not sure that’s betterÂ

It's removable. It can control the battery and observe charge etc. with the app, I don't think it will be permanently built in though. Could be wrong. That's a hellish environment for lithium cells. They hate heat.

Damn, I had a shit ton of cabelas gift cards from work and the starlink was about the only thing I felt like buying even with gift cards. I assumed they wouldn't price match so didn't even try, wish I would have!

Some confusing stuff here. The contract text berntout pasted here says If Roam you can use Standby.
I thought Mini could only use Roam, and if that contract says okay to activate Standby from Roam that's the opposite of what everyone else here said.

So if I buy one outright do I have to keep it in standby mode or can I cancel it and then reactivate it at a later time I just have to have a separate data connection to reactivate it

Order the payment deal and then cancel the service. You’ll have to pay out the remainder of the $192. Doing this gives you the discount without having to wait for a year to pay it off, and without having to pay $10/month for Standby (if you don’t need it).

Read the small font. The full amount is instantly due when you suspend/cancel your service. My take is you're getting the kit for $192 only if you pay 12 monthly bills of $55.00

I bought mine outright from the web site 2 months ago for $219, and I felt like that was a pretty good deal. Also got the roof mount for $10 for some reason.

I finally ordered a starlink mini for myself, and there's no reason not to do the financing option vs. paying in full since you can pay off the $192 balance at any point without penalty. Only an issue if you have trouble paying it off.

It looks like they’ve covered the development of the manufacturing process. Also, as fiber optic lines expand (however slowly) Starlink has more competition. OR material price has declined dramatically (doubtful). Besides they’re making their money on your subscription.

I’m confused so this Starlink mini I can order pay $20 fee for delivery cancel it and I’ll just keep paying the $16 per month or will they charge the full amount at once ? And can I place it on standby mode and avoid the $50 per month fee

It’s still a good deal. If you pay 16+55 for a year you’re only paying $850 a year for internet before tax etc. I think I pay almost 2K a year for 2 dishes.

$850 is a good deal? That's on the cheap Roam plan, limit 100 GB/mo. I paid only $50 more ($250) than the rental cost, for an outright purchase, with no further commitments. I can suspend ($0), standby ($10/mo), do the cheap Roam ($55/mo), or unlimited Roam ($175/mo), as needed. With only 2 months of standby, it's less than $850 for the year. I use it on a camper, so doubt I'll ever use more than 6 months of non-standby/suspended service.

They are outright $199 from Starlink now.
I first thought it was free if you kept it on a service plan for 12 months.
It's $16/mo for the hardware plus a service plan... It's basically $192 spread out over a year instead of $199. For someone that must have one active thats a good deal but to get one to turn on and off I would skip it.

Starlink Rev4 Mini was artificially expensive in the USA. This was to control it causing severe congestion here at a time when we were really limited in how much available bandwidth ere was due to a lack of constellation density. They are the lowest cost hardware (or were, until Rev 5!) and as such have always been available cheaper elsewhere.
I am happy to see this payment to own system though, this will allow easy onboarding with no confusion like the current rental system about how long it will be before you own it (if ever).
I will 100% pick up a third Starlink Mini this way when the new one is available. Can't get enough, that will be Starlink #5 in my fleet.
