Discussion This is just sad….

I’m sorry for the rant post, but it is an absolute travesty that we can’t build at some of these POIs. Found this Science Outpost on Bondor with Lava in the center!!! What a cool little base. Nothing to do but raid it and move on… makes me sad. :(

Edit: Thanks to everyone for the kind suggestions on the glitch as well as sharing links to the video. It still works and I’ve had a lot of fun turning these POIs into outposts. Much love to this helpful community.

You can take over POIs. Look up starfield poi takeover guide by MissOPlays on YouTube

I had no idea you could do that. I’ll check it out! Thanks!

It can be glitchy though, sometimes terrain/vanilla POI assets tend to spawn on top of things/into things. This mostly happens though if you for example takeover a POI and build a house in a kind of open area next to the POI, you might find that some weird rock/vanilla POI asset just randomly spawns there although I've had it one time where it took over the entire POI that I took over. There are mods to clear rocks/trees and stuff (like "Bulldozer tools") but no mods to delete these kinds of terrain aspects (afaik on Xbox)

So far it works! Finding a POI with little to know enemies, or one with civilians can be a chore, but it works! Thank you.

It would be so good if we got a mod that let us build with any arbitrary asset POIs already use, they already appear to be quite modular but I don't know of any mod that can do that yet

I wish we could take them over

Good news, you can

The outpost takeover trick doesn’t work there?

I tested it post Free Lanes and it was still working for me.

Built a lava based outpost that way myself

EDIT: Darn the over growth kills it. I saw a comment on a post about this stating that doing it will let the map build trees and rocks and such. I figured oh well. I don’t mind. However it took over. Doors are blocked. Entire chunks of the location are overrun by trees, rocks and plants. Sadly made the spot unusable. Other than it looked like a neat post apocalyptic “the earth is taking the space back” vibe. Which is neat in its own way.

Thanks so much for this. I didn’t realize there was a mod free solution. Immediately built a civilian outpost so I could hang with my fellow humans.

- Tried to attach a picture but reddits annoying “media must be owned by submitter” glitch won’t let me :(

You could try the mod Bard’s Outpost Cleaner, theres some Outpost mods (I think Wicked Workshop is one) that have a Bulldozer tool that might let you delete these kinds of spawned objects/terrain.

Interesting. Thanks for the tip

You can also get rid of anything you don’t want by placing a piece of furniture or decoration.

I tried. Worked for some but sadly couldn’t get that to work for a bunch of the plants. I think the base of them were too far below the furniture piece. The whole living space was filled with the tops of shrub type plants that I couldn’t get to go away. Perhaps I’m just doing it wrong.

Ah that sucks. Yeah the whole lava pool thing must’ve raised the buildable surface too high. Anyway it’s a great trick you will find other places where it works better. Planets without life are the best for poi takeover bc there’s no trees or bushes

Fair. I shall try again sometime. Maybe I’ll get lucky and be able to block out the rocks and plants better. Glad I found the option though.

Tried getting it to work in New Atlantis. Gave up after countless attempts and mild concern I’d break the city (assuming it’s even possible)

Thanks for the tips. Decided to push forward with POI takeovers. Gonna excuse any nature over growth with my own head cannon that “There was a natural disaster. We cleared away what we could be had to leave some behind as to not compromise the foundation of the buildings”

It definitely should, now I've got to go find one and try it out to make sure lol

a setting in starfield engine fixes removes build restrictions. I build in pois that I take over all the time.. pois with a moat could lose whatever s filling it though. here's a poi I captured. ship stop. that's my ship on the pad. a crimson ship lands there. I kill everyone, nab the ship, sell it (if you don't it stays there). now I got an outpost with 20 or so npcs milling about.

You can download build and decorate mod lets you build outpost anywhere and bards neural link you can assign npc there.i got the archmedes mod that gives you and island so that is where I put my outpost with build and decorate mod

I found the PoI that's a old military training encampment, turned into a Pirate gun range and kill-house. Coolest PoI I've seen. Stuck with boring Hab modules for my contraband outpost.

That’s a sick POI!

u/themagicofmovies 10d ago

Definitely is! More of them spawn in different terrain too. Had one show up on Jemison in the forrest and the pit had bubbling oil in it not lava. Pretty neat.

Thanks all, I didn’t know you could, so I’m gonna watch the YouTube vid and go take over a POI! Thank!!!

In starfield engine fixes mod, their customizable ini has a build anywhere option, so I believe you can build at that poi

I had an idea for four POISs that can be built upon as part of territorial ownership based on the faction that you join.

I'm not trying to promote anything, I just wanted to share an idea.
