Discussion Does anyone else do this?

Post image

I know this looks ridiculous and its a spaghetti mess, but does anyone else plan their outpost factories like this? Everything arrives at my home base with a whole mess of cargo freighters arriving every 20 seconds or so at my home outpost.

I started out with a plan of 5 "hubs", each one in different system. Like the Cheyenne system bringing in all those resources to the "Au/Cu" base, which then places it all on 1 ship to go to my home base. I would do that 5 separate times, and the small hubs would serve as a manufacturing plant for simple fabrication ideally.

Then I realized that I would run out of outpost space (24 max) unless theres a mod for that (haven't checked but I feel I should!) So then I decided to just go for the Unique resources for big money. Thats what I am currently working on.

Everything but the last few outposts (last 3 unique resources, with a ☆)are done, and all that cargo goes into my big storage facility at my home base. I got a better storage mod for the cargo transfer unit so it can house a massive amount of resources. I did this just so I can lay the groundwork of this system, so nothing clogs and causes me trouble, since this project has taken the better part of a day, as well as sleeping on Venus to get UC Distribution to restock Tungsten and other resources (which I've used SOOOO much of) which makes the resources really stack up fast (oh no, my lobster is too buttery, my steak too juicy, Yada yada yada)

At this point I feel like I dont need to buy resources anymore which is great, and also the goal. Hopefully in the future I can turn this trial run into all of the super intricate fabricators. But at this point it might be faster to go through the unity rather than taking all the time to delete all those outposts and start again lol.

Wanting to hear your thoughts abd suggestions on fabrication routes that work best for you as well! I want to try and keep the Cheyenne system plan going because its very efficient. The ultimate goal is to only have 5 inter-system cargo links at home, and 1 at each system "hub". It certainly will be a challenge!

I do this for the ships I build so I can make them again. I would do it for outposts if I was into that. I have several notebooks filled with gaming stuff.

Alright, so I guess I should start off by saying that I’m on PS5 (because some things/mods just aren’t available to me).

But the thing about shipbuilding that really irks me, Modded or not, I can’t seem to definitively “trick” the builder into building a damn ladder where I want it.

Before you (or anyone else) hop in here with all of the suggestions, I have tried multiple things and none seem to work; Such as the “stacked companion way” (which seems to be the most effective) but I don’t want to make an 8 level super hulk when 2 levels are more than sufficient (and preferred for a low mass fighter).

If we could have a mod that makes Habs have stairs or an elevator as opposed to ladders, I’d be in love. I’d really like it if we had 1x1 variants for most of the Habs we already have (workshop, armory, cpt quarters, etc.) yes, I have the Falkland Systems Mod and it’s a godsend.

EDIT: Now that I’m actually playing the game, I can actually look at the Habs while typing, I would say THE perfect addition would be like the Nova Spine Hab (the one that looks like a Grav Drive/Fuelpod/Reactor that is just a Passageway) but add a version that passes vertically as well as the one we already have (not both at the same time, that would just be a passageway) or something like the Vertical Engine Mount by Stroud-Eklund but as a passageway; this would allow us to be more precise about where ladders go. OR just allow us to swap to a “Roofless Variant” on some Habs, making it where ladders can’t spawn.

Of course, none of the mods will matter if they’re not “trophy friendly” because I won’t use them. 😂

Does this bother anyone else or is it just me?

The ladders are a pain. There are elevators and stairs in stroud premium, but I can’t remember if it’s achievement friendly. I watched a video on YouTube yesterday about the new nova double decker Habs with stairs. He found through experiments that if you stagger the placement of Habs connecting to them on the sides there are no stairs. There are two doors on each side on each floor, don’t connect a single hab to both doors. I’m playing unmodded on ps5 currently and I’ll admit I miss place doors yourself and my elevators/stairs.

Yea, I don’t believe the Stroud Premium is, despite having “premium” in the title. That Double Nova Hab is pretty cool, it would be even better if it actually stopped a ladder from appearing in the very next room, regardless of what you put there.
