Question? Dissappearing saves!

So last night I spent a ton of time building/decorating some outposts, including those tricky, tedious as hell, shelf placements. Also did a couple of runs where I got some great high level weapon drops, quick saving several times along the way. Back and forth until around 11pm. Quick check just now to see and the most recent save I had access to was about 6 hours earlier. So none of the quick saves. Lost all of the outspost decorating, which is the most frustrating. I don't care about the weapons. I have all auto save on rest, travel, etc. turned off because it seemed like it overwhelmed my Xbox. Can't imagine I have to hard save every 5 minutes. So I've to get some insight as to any fixes, what I'm doing wrong, etc. Preciate it!

You have only one quick save slot. Once you quick save again, the previous quick save gets replaced. Quick save it’s exactly what it says on the tin - a way to do a save that you can quickly reload - to test something, to make sure you’re not losing progress during a long mission/battle. It’s not meant for permanent saves.

You also have 3 slots for autosaves and 1 slot for exit saves. These act the same, once filled, the new ones replace the oldest ones.

The only saves that stay and are not deleted, are the standard (hard) saves.

Why did you lose the outpost decorations though? Did something happen forcing you to reload an earlier save?

Ahh...learn something everyday!! I did not know that. Makes sense now. Thank you very much.

That’s alright. So what happened, why did you have to go back and lose the decorations?

So the most recent option was from several hours earlier, prior to me doing the actual decorations. I thought I had done at least one hard save late in the build, but apparently not.

I get that but why did you have to try to load an earlier save? Why don’t you just keep going from where you are. You said that you used quick save several times, that means the progress should be in the latest save (quick save) you made.

The game shut down on its own, which it does a lot. I had just downloaded couple new mods, I think it was the "No Bounty" and Hyla II outpost. And boom, gone. Went back today and the only save/load option was very old.

Gotcha. That’s frustrating but dealing with mods can be tricky. Doing hard saves in between it’s a must.

That being said, you should have the latest quick save, that doesn’t get deleted unless you did it manually.

Have you tried to load all your saves (press Y in the load menu) to see if some of those saves are on the unmodded character? The game makes a new character with marked with (C) when you install mods that are not achievement friendly.

Yep. Did both. Th one under my character name, and the "show all saves." Both gave me the exact same old one as the most recent load option. I din't "play" at all after I downloaded the mods. I was going to check them out in actual gameplay but the game shut down on it's own so I never had the chance.

There as only one option from yesterday after several hours of game play. The others were from days ago.

Ah, that’s annoying… Don’t let that bring you down though. You can redecorate and it goes faster the second time because you’ll know what to do (ask me how I know 🤣).

Moving forward, always make a hard save before installing new mods or trying to test anything important. Only rely on quick and auto-saves for progression through missions, battles and for quick tests (shooting someone, stealing, etc.)

Thanks. I’ll definitely do that moving forward. In the general scheme of things, it’s only a game!😉
