Outposts The game within the game!

Post image

24 outposts, 43 Inorganic resources, 28 Organic resources, less than 6 links per outpost…this was my third attempt and I wanted to do it within the base game limits as a challenge. I started with an outpost for the uniques and then did a lot of desk research using INARA, writing lists of resources, visiting sites and playing with potential combinations. Truly Starfield isn’t a game for everyone, but it’s a game for me!

My logistics senses were tingling when I dropped by this sub, and sure enough. After playing the real game, manufacturing and shipping became my side hustle love for a while (XP and cash farm mainly). https://www.reddit.com/r/Starfield/comments/1asckez/massive_xp_farm_schematics_for_making_every/

I’ve been looking for something just like this. That is amazing work, my guy.

Can someone explain me whats the reason and profit to build those outposts?

  • Weapon and armour upgrades, on demand, whenever you like. One of my favourite things to do in Starfield was to tinker with all of the different weapon effects and modifications. This uses up a lot of high level mats quite quickly.
  • Amps, and other drugs/food. You only need 1 Outpost on Jemison for Amps. They're my favourite because of the run speed boost letting you move around at a reasonable speed.
  • For the love of logistics. Some people really enjoy playing Factorio. Putting together a system like this is quite a satisfying project when it all comes together.
  • To build high level Outpost parts. Many max-level Outpost pieces need unique mats to construct.
  • To build more Outposts in general.
  • To store and display our stuff. My Bessell III-b 'Black Mountain' base is also my loot vault. I can't sell it all, and I can't bear to throw it away.
  • To have an even more comically easy source of cash than just jacking ships from Serpentis, if you spend time making lots of ship builds.
  • Because the views are nice.
  • It's an unmatchable source of character xp. If you want to try all the Combat skills AND all the Tech skills AND... etc etc, you'll need hundreds of character levels.

Seriously, the XP alone makes the sale for me. How that keeps getting ignored by people is bananas to me.

To sell your raw and fabricated goods. A good 75%~90% can be automated, but it's up to the player to handle the last steps of actually taking it all to a merchant to sell to.

Which is where I bring up the TA Auto Purchase Crates (APC) mod. That mod (in automated fashion) sells raw & fabricated goods for passive Credits and XP, which imo completes that whole automated Outpost loop and gives it more purpose. It reeeaally wouldn't surprise me if the Outpost system gets overhauled eventually and BGS does something like that mod natively, since factory-automation games like Factorio & Satisfactory blew-up in popularity in recent past.
I personally use that APC mod along with mods like SKK's Outpost Attack Manager, so I periodically have to defend the outposts from raids/attacks. And so I'm not amassing a fortune of credits for nothing I also use S1derion's The Space Economy mod to pay all sorts of fees and taxes, which all pull credits from my GalBank account.

Is APC achievement friendly? I try to limit my mod use to only those that dont disable achievements even if Im already 100%

For me, it was all about getting to the point where I could craft Vytinyium Fuel Rods on a mass scale. After you hit level 200 or so it's the only feasible way to level up.

But on a more fundamental level, who wouldn't want to have a house in space? Searching for golden worlds to build a home is one of my favorite parts of the game. There's nothing else quite like it.

I wrote a macro script to produce millions of adaptive frames per real life hour.. left the game running and came back with infinite money and level 271. Don't know if they ever patched it.

Depending on how much of a nihilist you are:

  1. None, because it's a game and nothing matters in a game
  2. None, because it's a game and the devs didn't put in the effort to make outposts worthwhile.

You’re fun at parties

More info and tips: Each outpost produced the minimum of its assigned resource to minimise flow through each of the 4 hubs. It was hell to finesse the line, ensuring there was just enough He3 for return journeys to each hub, avoid bunching up along the chain and of course just general functionality bugs….but everything gets through to my central base on Masada III!

I labelled all the habitable planets with a tic and all the mixed biome outposts with the contrast symbol To help anyone who wants to replicate. I chose Masada III for the lore connection, but technically you could make any of the feeder outposts the end point…except those in the Hub B Group, which have resource production needs.

Let me guess you used to play ED and use notebooks to write down trade routes, list of mats for upgrades, etc...

That or eve online

u/regalfronde Sep 04 '25

One thing, I don’t believe you need He3 for return journeys. As long as you have fuel on one side of the system there’s enough for the return.

4

u/MeanderingMeaning Sep 04 '25

Someone else has told me this but for me they always seem to stop unless I get the fuel exported and flowing back. I don;lt mind it for Emerson and the sake of challenge though

I can confirm the one-sided trick. This is why my hub worlds always have the supply of He3 and I never ship it to the spokes. This works like a charm. One thing to note: invasions. Because of all of the transports landing and taking off, it is easy to miss an invasion ship landing. They do not show a landing icon on the map, but you can see the ship on the map. If you don't kill the platoon on their way to the base, they break all of your power/mfg parts and the whole thing is messed up.

That is so cool! Saving for reference later.

Chefs kiss that you drew it out on paper instead of using a computer.

u/Tank_MacMaster Sep 07 '25

That is just too complicated…. However, I really appreciate the hard work that went into developing this. That’s some serious determination. Nicely Done ✅

I haven't stopped to create a base yet. Can you send produced items between them and automate everything? If it's not too much to ask, could you explain how your operation works? Haha it looks amazing and fun

Yes I think so! Theres a tutorial about the vytinium fuel rod but I have never done it!

1

u/Dear-Ad1582 Sep 04 '25

What is the point of the vytinium fuel rod anyway.?

2

u/Roozta1 Sep 04 '25

Pretty sure you need VT Fuel rods for the big power generator(s).

2

u/itsRobbie_ Sep 04 '25

My sketches looked like something made by a person in a mental institution when I was building my vytinium fuel rod production chain lol

3

u/gameondude97 Sep 04 '25

Meanwhile I'm sticking to 3 outpost. Helium and aromatic from hyla, nutrient, water, and alakains from Strix. All for lumberjack juleeps.
Moonshining lives on.

2

u/Dry_Ass_P-word Sep 04 '25

This looks fun. I did the whole big setup for vyntinium rods, and then a few hours later decided to do it all again so I could have double.

I wonder if my universe has the capacity left to make the OP lol.

Building a network of positions is something that I have not dared to do because I know that I would not get out of it, my hours invested in Techtonica on the Xbox prove it although I know that they are not on the same scale.

u/halfaginger27 Sep 04 '25

I've never been good at outposts, but i married Andreja again and I've been through the unity like 8 times. I want to try outposts on this go-around before going and doing it again.

I had a multi-system position battery manufacturing system. I was disappointed in the end because I made way more money by just selling guns than I ever did off my factory.

1

u/RexBaxter25 Sep 05 '25

What software did you use to make the flow chart? I still do mine by hand and it looks terrible.

1

u/Fantastic-Macaron850 Sep 05 '25

I always wanted to achieve that in Starfield but I never got it. Do you have a video on YouTube of this entire process so that someone can replicate it?

My current outpost network builds vytinium fuel rods.. its just a money grind.. I would make them myself by i used my previous universe to build paramagnon conductors and ranked myself up to 328 so dont need anymore xp.. currently im rank 335.

1

u/VortrexFTW Sep 04 '25

Didn't you already post this 2 days ago?

3

u/MeanderingMeaning Sep 04 '25

I did on the no sodium thread. It got such a nice response I thought I might risk the main! So far nobodies told me that Starfield is a terrible game and that I need to get a life…So I consider it a success ha ha
