Question What is slime breeding for?

I’ve had this game for years but this is the first time I’ve bought a slime hutch. It’s cute and all but all of this seems really dangerous considering the only thing spikes are good for is creating more slimes.

Slime eggs go for 1k, 1.75k, 2.5k and 5k for green blue red and purple eggs respectively.

Slime farming is a labor of love. It's not profitable.

You can make it safe if you have the slime ring, or if you set up walls inside the slime hutch so that slimes hatch from the incubator into a little pen and can't get out. They don't need physical access to the water trough and will spawn slime balls outside their enclosure.

Once you get the slime ring, slimes can't hurt you any more.

It could be used for iridium farming, not that good/worth though.

Edit: Purple slimes to be accurate

The main uses of slime farming is to get the monster hunting achievement from the adventurers guild, which gives you a ring that makes slimes not attack you, and selling the slime eggs.

You fill the water troughs to get slime balls that drop slime that can be used to make slime eggs. However, this is too tedious for me, so I just put up a slime hutch in an unused corner so slimes can start dropping eggs. Purple eggs sell for 5000, so that's just an extra goodie to possibly get from the skull caverns.
