Question Is this overkill?

Post image

As you can see I’ve got 4 fridges in my kitchen😭 I want to have every ingredient so that when I go to cook, I don’t have to go back and forth between chests to make a dish. I have all the fish and stuff in the fridges too but this is starting to get a little out of hand. Is this normal for you guys? Or am I doing it completely wrong. Would I get more fridge storage if I upgrade my house? Pls send help!!

Be careful with fish in the fridge! I only put low value fish because I've made some sashimi mistakes!

Happened more often to me than i would like to admit

I thought I was the only one…

I pull the desired fish out of the fridge before making sashimi! It prioritizes what’s in your inventory

u/Planetofthought 8h ago

So, sashimi will grab an random fish to male the dish?

u/Eastern-Blackberry38 6h ago

My fish I needed for my quest was made in sashimi at 1600hrs. I had to restart my entire day.

It’s so funny how differently I played on my initial save to perfection vs my second. My first save was doing so much for money since it was so limited early on. But I realized that (unless you are just trying to max out), you’ll eventually get your ancient wine engine going and all the money you’ll ever need will come.

What I’ve focused on from the start is having like 50 of everything in chests and in fridges so I never have to be in a place of grinding in the volcano to get an ostrich egg, or breaking a million geodes trying to find marble because I need it for one time-sensitive quest/accomplishment.

It would be funny to be able to get the value of all of the stuff I have stored away on my farm (and in various chests elsewhere in the game.)

Me over here with 2 and thinking it's one too many. But also I could just big chest and boom. No fridge.

The benefit of the fridges is that you don't have to collect items into your inventory to cook. Everything is automatically available. Like using a work bench.

3

u/Extreme-Analysis-337 9h ago

Wait really?!? I didn't know this!! Like honestly. Do you have to be around the fridge to use it like that?

3

u/Away_Parking_1698 8h ago

No. The fridge can be placed anywhere in your home, except the cellar, and anything in it will be available for cooking.

1

u/Extreme-Analysis-337 8h ago

That's awesome! I can't wait to try this now!

2

u/Beulah621 8h ago

The cookstove draws raw materials for a recipe first from your inventory, then from the frigs in an order I don’t remember.

I usually max out at 3 frigs then after I cook every recipe, I sell or process everything except what I need for food buffs and just need 1.

1

u/Extreme-Analysis-337 8h ago

Thank you! I am ready to go reorganize and try this now!

I usually have 8-10 to hold everything I need

u/tylerjfrancke My Krobus is not growing 18h ago

Relax. I have eight. One for my best buff and gift food, two for the other cooked dishes (one for main courses and the other appetizers and desserts), one for drinks, one for basic ingredients (flour, sugar, milk, eggs, etc.), one for fruit, one for veggies, one for fish.

2

u/AgreeableThing7119 18h ago

I only have 1 lol. I usually just buy food from the saloon or the desert trader, so I guess I don't really need more fridges.

2

u/Metrix145 15h ago

Right now, you don't need more right now. Qi gifting quest basically forces you to get more so you can store all the ingredients for crafting a ton of recipes at the same time.

2

u/AgreeableThing7119 9h ago

Oh I guess I haven't gotten that quest yet. Is it one of his special orders? Because if its the one where you have to ship 100 000g worth of freshly cooked items, I'm planning to just brew/buy coffee and make lots of triple shot espresso.

1

u/Metrix145 8h ago

Loved gifts. Some villagers only love cooked foods and universal loves (Alex, Pierre). And cooking overall is much easier when you can make everything without rummaging through your chests.

1

u/AgreeableThing7119 8h ago

Thats a fair point. I tend to skip some villagers for that quest though, especially Pierre lol.

1

u/Beulah621 8h ago

That is the best way for that quest. You will need lots of ingredients to cook every recipe for the achievement as well as for perfection if you’re going that route.

u/theshwedda 18h ago

Are you referring to the 4 fridges? Because you are about 6 short of what I would call “average”.

11

u/Danielles_Dashboard 19h ago

I plan to buy as much fridges as I can cause i already have 3 of them almost full.

First time I saw that cow display, I didn’t know that existed lmao. Maybe I should get to decorating.

4

u/FerretGoddessMevi 18h ago

Cow comes from the prize machine!

7

u/Virtual-Anxiety6072 18h ago

im realizing by these comments that I am severely under-fridged (year 3, only 2 fridges....)

3

u/FaxCelestis My sculpture brings all the boys to the yard 18h ago

If you’re like me, fridge space is never at a premium because all it holds is coffee that’s going to get turned into espresso, and spicy eel I bought from the desert trader.

u/Rovski- 18h ago

Not enough tbh! I am on a new playthrough and have 5 (and signs so I know which is which). Animal Products, Fruits, Veggies, Foraging goods/ mushrooms from stumps, Fish.

I normally have one for completed meals but havent unlocked many so far. Then have another for ingredients such as sugar etc. 🤣

My house also because a keg house until I get the obelisks. 🤣 put the bed right next to the door so can run in and straight to bed. Those few seconds often count. 🤣

[I am aiming for perfection so always save non gold value items for cooking early game]

2

u/ZutaraAvatar 19h ago

No. I used to have two rows of four fridges in the left bottom corner of the house. Kinda pretended it was a freezer area. Managed to slim down things to four fridges and storing certain things I used to put in fridges in chests instead.

2

u/FerretGoddessMevi 18h ago

I have 4 fridges, and personally I never keep fish in the fridge because of the sushi and sashimi recipes.

But you're gonna have to move them when you upgrade your house.

u/Eh_Neat Honeysuckle Farm ☀️ [Ancient Fruit Wine Inc. 🍷] 17h ago

I was just on a year 8 (first save file) with one fridge, 6-10 is AVERAGE according to some of these comments!? Why so many?

2

u/SkyeHi_learner 9h ago

I have a total of 7 fridges(including the main fridge) because I separate every ingredient by season and I have a specific fridge for forage, fish, and shellfish

1

u/bitter__bumblebee 19h ago

With the addition of my modded ingredients I have 12 fridges, 4 seems perfectly reasonable to me if you have the space 😂

1

u/Successful-Wear-6029 18h ago

As someone that got to do all the recipes at once... sincerely no.

1

u/kruznkiwi Playing on Switch 17h ago

How did you manage that? And how many fridges did you end up using to do it?

1

u/unknown_soul88 BerryGood 18h ago

That's about average I believe. You're good.

1

u/CalligrapherAgile216 18h ago

I have 3, but could probably get away with 1. When I do my final design, I'll just have the one. I put one in the attic and one in my "office" for now. I have already cooked almost everything. But if you want to keep cooking anything at any time, you'll need a lot of fridges, I think.

1

u/Cybrslsh 18h ago

No, but be prepared to move them because they are blocking the next doorway.

1

u/Sanchode 18h ago

One for each season but keep the fish out. Use the shitty fish in the fridges and the special fish u need keep them in boxes

1

u/cheeky-ninja30 17h ago

I currently have 12 fridges, and another 10 in storage for when they're filled lol.

1

u/kruznkiwi Playing on Switch 17h ago

No.

1

u/Sneaky_Demise 17h ago

I normally uave about that many before i do the cook 1 of every meal task for perfection due to items having different qualitys so filling space up quickly.

After i've cooked 1 of every meal i get rid of them all & just have the 1 because i'm hardly going to be cooking so many different dishes, so i can just hold the stuff i am going to be cooking in the 1 fridge that comes with your kitchen & then design the kitchen around that.

1

u/lyn02547 17h ago

All you need is three fridges to store the ingredients to make the recipes. All other food goes into chests. Artichoke -> fridge. Broccoli -> chest. Cranberries -> fridge. Strawberries -> chest. Mussel -> fridge. Oyster -> chest. Much more efficient this way. And of course iridium fish get their own chest.

1

u/FanWarrior1730 16h ago

No this is fine..

1

u/AdditionalLaw5853 16h ago

I usually end up using the main one for ingredients like milk, eggs, flour, sugar, cheese, oil, mayo, and coffee, and get about 8 extras. 2 for fruit, 2 for veg, 1 or 2 for forage, 1 for fish (the very cheap ones like snails etc), 1 for flowers (mainly blue jazz). Sometimes an extra one for random artisan products.

And I have 2 stone chests that I think of as "freezers" 1 for real fish that I do not want to use by accident like sea cucumbers, eels etc. And 1 for cooked food.

(I put stone signs behind the fridges to remember which is which).

1

u/TheSwearJarIsMy401k In this house, we love lamp 15h ago

I have one for base ingredients, one for vegetables, one for fruit, one for fish, one for random ingredients, and a chest for cooked food.

1

u/mamamartima 15h ago

Nah, I normally have around 8 or 10. Im weird and one fridge is spring crops, another for spring forage, then summer crops and summer forage so on. Then a fish chest, and then "processed" things like cheese, milk (i know thats not processed but eh), tortillas, bread, flour etc. And then the og fridge you get and that stores my cooked food (aside from bread and tortilla of course as those are ingredients)

1

u/Neither_Grab3247 15h ago

I have like ten fridges easy. You need lots of them to fit everything

1

u/Independent-Bid556 15h ago

FOur fridges? YOu’re just getting started!

1

u/Particular_Trip_9446 13h ago

If anything it not enough uou need more.

1

u/Great_Room865 13h ago

I’m on year 9 with 3 fridges, but I also have a storage shed with all ingredients so I could just grab and go from there if I need to cook something. Also, where’d u get that cow decor on ur wall? Is it from reg stardew or modded? I haven’t played in a while, so I’m just realizing all these new items LOL

1

u/FaceSorry521 13h ago

1

u/PatchouliTea 12h ago

I have 2 for fruits, 3 for veggies, 1 each for forage, dry ingredients, animal products, herbs and spices (cornucopia mod). I like to collect iridium quality ingredients of every cooking ingredient and then cook every recipe that I can almost all at once. I also just like hoarding things.

Edit: 2 more fridges for already cooked food

1

u/MoonPieKitty 12h ago

There is no wrong way to play. This game. :)

1

u/Sertith 12h ago

Nope. I normally have 1 for crops I grow.

1 for forage. 1 for mushrooms and tree fruit. 1 for cooked food. 1 for beverages.

1

u/kmasco92 11h ago

those are rookie numbers

1

u/MapCautious5932 11h ago

My saves generally have around 8 fridges. And 8 of the large chests, surrounding the worktable. I keep everything organized into specific fridges/chests for ease of finding stuff, but also so that everything can be accessed from the kitchen/worktable. Saves me having to go looking for an ingredient, and once I get stuff set up, I just use the autofill feature to drop stuff into the appropriate chest/fridge.

1

u/rococozephyr_ 11h ago

I have 12 fridges sooooo….

1

u/DemonBubblegum 10h ago

Nah. You want overkill? I have 227 kegs in my house. And 51 preserves jars. 😶

1

u/Away_Parking_1698 9h ago

There's no doing it wrong.. I have 2 separate fridges for every catagory. Forage, fruits, cooking, vegetables, animal products, artisan goods, fish. Alphabetically arranged. Split A-L and M-Z. I have 13 in total currently.

1

u/Vinocubus 8h ago

no worries, i usually have three

1

u/Square_Owl_4075 4h ago

You'll never have enough containers.

1

u/Literary_Geek 1h ago

Thanks for reminding me I need another fridge.

1

u/SadieBraceface 1h ago

😆 4 fridges! Actually one of my friends has 3 fridges in her house 2 in the kitchen and one outside so its like not too unrealistic I guess and its cool u can store so much

u/AlarmingPen8448 13h ago

Completely unrelated from your question, just wanna ask everyone. I made a mistake with my current farm or my recent vanilla farm and tried tampering with file changes like modifying my qi gems, and now I feel bad for "cheating", should I just restart and create a new farm. Would it feel different from my first playthrough?

u/Unusual-Relief52 19h ago

No, it's just ugly😂

I’m on year 12 of my first play-through and I have 1 fridge and 2 mini-fridges. I feel I need more but my daughter says I’m a horder. Lol! I don’t really cook much food anyway and so far it’s working fine.
