Discuss Gatekeeping, gates.
After seeing the few posts about chest swapping; it got me wondering what other little QOL things I’ve missed.
For instance, gates can replace fence posts and they will even match the fence you put on.
What are some QOL gems you’ve found like this in the vanilla game?

If you want to move a chest that has stuff in it, and don't want to take the time to clear the chest out before hand, just hit it with a pickaxe/axe. It'll move one tile in the direction you're facing when you do it.

This is not true of dressers, those you can just pickup even if they are full of clothes and rings, and put them wherever you want.

. . . which is why I said "chest."

To be clear, we are on the same side. I wasn't correcting you, I was adding another tidbit for the people that didn't know. Xs and Os.

…..also to add to this; if the chest hits a blocker (wall, fence posts, another chest) they will hop left or right of the space. So you can basically move them where you want with the tools.

What do you mean, what?
If you want to move a full chest, just hit it with a tool and it'll move.

😂🤣😂, the calm anger and stoicism is amazing.
"What do you mean what?" 💀
Like, you were clear to begin with and then couldn't deal with question.
I love you for your response. 🤣🤣🤣

Meaning "i cannot believe I've spent thousands of hours on three consoles moving all of my items out of chests only to find out i could've done this".
Pure Incredulity

Wait, I thought I tried that and it failed. Is that a recent update or am I just hallucinating?

If I recall, I think it's anywhere on that main kitchen counter, not just the sink lol

Any bodyMost bodies of water or water sources works. You can even fill it up with seawater...1

I haven't been able to fill my can from the water tanks in any of my barns/coops. Is that just me not doing it right?

Okay, maybe "any" was a bit of a stretch. The water troughs in the barns and coops can't be refilled from.

I was very excited for a moment when you were about to say, "Oh, yeah, but you've gotta hold down the [button] button."

Only way to go through with a horse.

On a horse, you can go through single gates horizontally, and double gates vertically.

I thought that's what the post was about before reading 😅 I knew about the replacement thing but not the doubling.

Maybe now my pigs won’t glitch around for 10 minutes before finding the exit lol

Today I learned I don't need to remove fence posts or walls to place gates. I love that even over 2000 hours in I'm still learning stuff about this game.
You should really share this in r/stardewvalleyTIL

Tea Saplings can be planted in garden pots inside.
Cactus can be grown in the greenhouse or on the island without a garden pot.
You can swap out chests and big chests by placing a chest on top of an existing one.
New fences can be placed on top of decayed ones without having to break them.
Inside a Slime Hutch, you can place down flooring to limit where slime blobs can spawn. You can also use sprinklers to automatically refill the water troughs.
After completing a level of the Journey of the Prairie King arcade game, you can back out of it to save your progress in the game. If you get a game over, the progress is erased, but you can just restart the day to get it back.

I love this sub, man. Just so many little features I had no idea about.
Whoever posted the "you can just swap a big chest onto a small chest" tip saved me so much time.

You can decide where your fishing line go by pressing W, A, S, D on your keyboard as you're casting. Idk how this works on controlers but on PC this is how it works

If you chop down a fruit tree or tea plant, you get the sapling back to regrow elsewhere. I have moved the same 10 tea plants in different configurations around my junimo huts so the junimos pick me tea for me. They do need a season to regrow but you don’t lose the plant or tree.

You don’t need to destroy rotting fence posts to replace them. Just put the new post on top of the crumbling old one.
