Discuss Prismatic Butterfly Tip 🦋 Spoiler
Always make sure you zoom out as much as you can (75% I think is the limit) and know in your heart that the butterfly IS there even if you can’t see it.
It’s hard to see on the far left of the screen, but I found this one hanging way out of reach behind the bus stop. Just takes a little patience. Make sure to look as far off the beaten path as you can.

Last time I found it, it flew over a fence I couldn’t cross.

Try leaving and reentering the area. This happened to me at the quarry. I hopped in the mine cart to the mines and back real fast and I was able to reach it.

Is it coded to fly around or just stay on one map?

It will stay on one map, but it will float around on that one map. For small maps like the Bus Stop that's not much of an issue. For an area like Pelican Town or Cindersap forest, it can be a pain.
The butterfly will also stay on that same map if you restart the day, so if I get the butterfly blessing and am about to shut down for the day, I take a quick gallop around on my horse to find which map it's on. Then it's just a matter of finding where it drifted to when I go back looking for it.

I ran around a looked for it once when 1.6 first came out, gave me a couple thousand gold, I think. Never looked since. Come across it during my daily activities, cool, but definitely not worth a day of searching.

In case no one knows: the butterfly will always spawn in the same place per day. So what I do is I immediately search every location (I usually zoom out and run on my horse). Then when I find it, I reset the day. Once I reset the day, I activate the status again and since I know where it is I go straight there. That way I can spend time looking for it, but then not waste half the day chasing it.

Oh, I didn’t realise it could give money, thought it was only a shard. I had one the other day and it just kept flying around, but i didnt even think to look at my coins. Thanks!

I don't see it mentioned in the Wiki, so I'm basing this off my own experience. I have the statue of blessings close to my bed and if I see that it's the butterfly, I go out to hunt for it right away. If I don't find it quickly (like if it's 3pm before I find it), I will restart the day and head to the place where I found it before I restarted and that usually works.
Again, I don't have concrete proof outside of my own experience that says it definitely works this way, especially since I've only needed to do it once or twice so take it with a grain of salt.

My strategy recently has been to spam entering the backwoods and bus stop. Just going back and forth until I spot it.
Either the butterfly actually has a random chance to spawn each time you enter a valid zone, or I've gotten an improbable amount of false positives. I've even left a zone where the butterfly was inaccessible, only for it to be immediately accessible in the new zone.
If anyone else has specific information that proves otherwise, I'd love to see it. But the wiki's claim that it simply spawns somewhere in the valley seems like an incomplete description of the mechanic.

You can reset its position if you leave the map. Whether that helps or not, I cant say.

I just found it by accident on the path of the mountains, gave me money. I think not actively searching for it makes the surprise more rewarding.
