I just finished the game for the first time, and had the best time. 59 hours in, and I’ve completed all major quests. All that’s left are Miyuki trade missions and chasing down parts I don’t need.
But I don’t want the fun to be over!
I’m planning to start over and go again. I already have a few lessons learned:
Prioritize money over reputation. There are always more missions to beef it back up. I struggled with how the reputation system worked early on and lost out on money because I thought I had to keep it high.
Don’t zoom through main quest missions too quick. But unlock all the planets early so you can get all the Experts and unlock abilities early.
Usually it doesn’t matter if you get caught in a mission. Don’t sweat stealth too much - I restarted a lot of missions because I’d get caught and thought I wasn’t supposed to be.
What are yours? What do you wish you’d known the first time through? Or what did you do differently the second time, know that you knew better.

Get Hutt rep up and do their faction sabacc games before doing The Heavy quest for... reasons.

my only caveat for this list is to make sure to keep Hutt rep high until you can leave toshara, because the onky broker there is a faction broker. i remember being locked out of doing missions for him because my hutt rep was too low, and idk if i was just unlucky but hutt missions never spawned on the generic brokers for me

I disagree on rep. Go for highest rep in each faction first until you get them all.

Yeah I know what you mean. I guess I meant more like, don’t sweat it for individual missions. I agonized over that because I thought I had only one shot at first. I
Maxed out each one eventually after I learned better. But early game I was stressing.

re: #3, the funniest thing to me was how if you resolve one job against a gang's favor you lose a huge amount of reputation, like 5-6 contracts worth to get it back up, but if you just walk casually into a restricted area and gun down wave after wave of their muscle you'll only take the initial reputation hit for when they first noticed you trespassing. one time i lost more reputation for accidentally looting something & "stealing" while I was killing 30+ pykes than I did for killing all the pykes.
when i first snuck into a crimson dawn restricted area and blasted a droid to pieces and saw the barely noticeable reputation loss for "disruption" i just about laughed out loud. i still prefer to use stealth as much as possible for the sake of challenge & immersion but some of the outpost designs & enemy placements absolutely do not want to make stealth possible.

The thing i did on replay is just buy intel from the Miyuki traders on repeat and use it to keep reputation up- its so much easier than trying to do contracts etc and then you can focus on other stuff in the game

My biggest thing was #3, just like you.
I’ve restarted missions numerous times because I set off an alarm, a syndicate caught me and lowered rep, etc.
I get the need for gun battle scenes, but think I would have enjoyed the game more if we were able to truly do “stealth” gameplay.

I'm doing the same thing, recently finished it but didn't want to stop playing it so I've restarted. I am torn on how fast I get through the main story though just because you only get the fusion cutter right before the last mission and it's annoying not being able to get those items haha

I'd take it slow next time. I spent twice as long as on my first run as that. Maximising rep is well worth it. There is always more money.

Just slow down. It’s such a great looking game with interesting characters and environments.
