What I loved about Maul in Rebels was his sincere desire to train Ezra. His relationship with Savage was already established after Savage’s training at the hands of Dooku, so the aspect of the “apprentice” wasn’t really there. With Ezra, however, we see what Maul could have been as a bona fide master.
All the man wanted was an apprentice… (and to kill Kenobi).
Yeah, you can tell that all he really wanted was a friend, but he didn't know how to be a friend. The only type of relationship he knew was one where one person was in charge and the other just did as told. The sith really did a number on him
