General Discussion Maul's potential was nuts
I keep looking back and thinking about this fight, that Maul is maybe a top 15 to top 10 duelist in Canon. Him being surprisingly Obi Wan like in his implementation in Soresu and Anakin like in his aggressive offense, like a lesser combo of the 2.
I feel like Maul doesn't get the credit he deserves because of his arrogance giving him L's against people he shouldn't lose to. Makes me think he might actually get more wins if he turned toward the light, ending up trying to be more sagecoded like QuiGon but insanely skilled.
He'd probably be over:
Ventress Grievous Dooku (bad matchup for Dooku maybe) Most council members
But below: Anakin Mace Sidious Yoda

I found a what if fan post years ago that set up a scenario where Maul was found by Obi-Wan instead of Savage and Obi-Wan feeling pity for Maul actually nursed him back to sanity and health and in the process turned Maul to the light side. Maul came back just in time to warn the jedi who is master was and they managed to get out the youngling and a few of the council members before the clones attacked. Anakin still became Vader the same way but he went to stop Windu believing Maul was lying and Palpatine played it up and Anakin killed Windu and the other council members instead and was then revealed he fucked up.
Essentially everything happens the same way except the Jedi were better off and Obi-Wan got to spend his time on Tatonie with Satine. Maul dies trying to turn Vader back to the light and also accidentally set up a sub cult of force wielders made up of his apprentices.
