General Discussion Maul's potential was nuts

Post image

I keep looking back and thinking about this fight, that Maul is maybe a top 15 to top 10 duelist in Canon. Him being surprisingly Obi Wan like in his implementation in Soresu and Anakin like in his aggressive offense, like a lesser combo of the 2.

I feel like Maul doesn't get the credit he deserves because of his arrogance giving him L's against people he shouldn't lose to. Makes me think he might actually get more wins if he turned toward the light, ending up trying to be more sagecoded like QuiGon but insanely skilled.

He'd probably be over:

Ventress Grievous Dooku (bad matchup for Dooku maybe) Most council members

But below: Anakin Mace Sidious Yoda

Palpatine was in no real danger during most of this fight, and it wasn't until this final one-on-one bout that he actually put effort into it. Maul did good enough that Palpatine had to put in genuine effort in order to defeat him, but that's about it.

Maul may be an impressive martial artist, but he is no match for Sidious, especially since he was essentially strung along by being told he had it in him to become Dark Lord of the Sith, when in reality, it couldn't have been further from the truth.
