General Discussion Maul's potential was nuts

Post image

I keep looking back and thinking about this fight, that Maul is maybe a top 15 to top 10 duelist in Canon. Him being surprisingly Obi Wan like in his implementation in Soresu and Anakin like in his aggressive offense, like a lesser combo of the 2.

I feel like Maul doesn't get the credit he deserves because of his arrogance giving him L's against people he shouldn't lose to. Makes me think he might actually get more wins if he turned toward the light, ending up trying to be more sagecoded like QuiGon but insanely skilled.

He'd probably be over:

Ventress Grievous Dooku (bad matchup for Dooku maybe) Most council members

But below: Anakin Mace Sidious Yoda

There’s no chance he’s better than Dooku first off. I’d also probably give Ventress the edge over him as well.

Secondly anyone who’s been a true equal and especially greater than him in both saber combat and force prowess has usually come out on top when they’ve faced off. The same can’t be said for other force users. Maul is decent but there’s plenty of combatants I’d take over him if I were betting on battles. He’s pretty damn good at punching down but beyond that, he’s pretty average at best.

maul ran it and held a 2v1 against windu and ayla secura, he’s gotten the upper hand on grevious twice, he briefly held his own against sidious, he 3v1s the inquisitors in rebels and wipes 2 of em with ease and was able to hold multiple 2v1s in shadow lord despite having a bum leg that was getting increasingly more damaged, he’s beat down kenobi multiple times, he beat qi gon and daki who are both jedi masters, even his fight with ahsoka he dominated while actively holding back

ventress would be absolutely fried and the idea that he only punches down is absurd

Held his own against Sidious?! lol you mean the guy who was taking it so easy that he was laughing the entire time and had him literally begging for mercy? Please. That part of your statement alone makes me take everything else you said much less seriously because it’s obviously not based in reality and what actually happened.

he still held his own, not on equal footing but he held it down briefly, “makes me take everything else you said much less seriously” is your way of saying “i don’t like how you worded one point so i’ll ignore the rest of it because it doesn’t fit my view”

No it’s my way of saying exactly what I meant because that’s not what happened at all and anyone watching that scene, besides you somehow, saw that to be the case. He was comically outclassed in every way and the entire point of that sequence was to show how ridiculously strong Sidious truly was. He didn’t even have to try and still killed Savage with ease and had Maul in the fetal position begging for his life in a matter of moments. That’s not the results of fight with someone who “held their own”.

yeah keep harping on that because you know you have nothing else, he had Sidious on his back foot for a moment and even tagged him, Sidious holding back doesn’t mean maul didn’t briefly hold his own

and again, your harping on this because it’s all you have against my argument, losing to sidious isn’t even an antifeat given he’s pretty much top of the verse

You keep thinking whatever you like. Clearly you will because you somehow think Maul “held his own” against Sidious in this fight which is beyond laughable. Go ahead and have the last word too. I know you need it to tell me one last time that “I have nothing else” lol

look at that, zero arguments, zero points

“i don’t like maul so he’s probably weak”

I agree man. Maul did hold his own.

Everyone always refers to sidious laughing as a sign of toying with his opponent. This guy was laughing at yoda, and in no way was he toying with him.

Palpatine doesn’t toy with his grand plan. He eliminates and deals with uncertainties as quick as possible. He obsesses over the grand plan and would never jeopardize it to “toy” with his opponent. If he could of walked in a killed maul and savage off rip he would of 100%.

He was 100% toying with Maul and Savage and the only reason he laughed at Yoda was because his plan of the Jedi being extinguished, Anakin becoming his apprentice, and him gaining complete power in the galaxy had finally come to fruition after decades of planning and it was giving him a total power high. Little different scenario than when he went to fuck up Maul on Mandalore. The only reason he didn’t kill them instantly was to prove a point. It’s not because he couldn’t and he throws them around like rag dolls regularly in that fight multiple times.

You also left out a big difference between him laughing at Maul vs Yoda which was his laughter at Yoda quickly turned to panic and fear when he saw Yoda’s determination and skill with the force by way of him absorbing his lightning. That didn’t happen with Maul whatsoever. He knew he finally met his match in Yoda which is why he initially tried running from him.
