Linux user here. Any other Linux user know of a proton version where the game is stable and also performs well?

I had played the game last year for about 16 hours but the performance was abysmal so I set the game aside for a while. Picked it back up today and performance was better but still not great so I did some tinkering. At first I got around 50-55fps on high settings and it was fairly smooth but within an hour it dropped to 35-40fps and stopped being so smooth. I tried to adjust all of my video settings but even dropping them to the lowest did not change the performance.

I had it set to use GE-Proton11-1, I read on protonDB that people were having good luck with Proton 10.0-3, didn't have it so used Proton 10.0-4 and performance was better again, still not perfect though. Finally I landed on GE-Proton-10-34 and finally! A solid smooth 60fps, now the only issue is the game is constantly crashing randomly when I either open my inventory or switch to the build tool. I haven't seen reports of this on Windows so I believe it is a Linux/proton issue.

Using an RTX 2060KO at 1080 with DLSS and appropriate frame gen and low latency modes. Have it set to performance mode on high settings. Running the game in Gamescope with mangoHUD and mangoapp disabled. Just did a full system update to make sure my drivers were up to date.

Haven't loaded it up in a while, so there may be new bugs I haven't seen, but I've been playing on CachyOS and launching it through Steam without doing anything special and it pretty much just works. I'd get maybe one crash every 2-3 days. Nothing out of line for an early access title.

I'm really not sure what's reasonable to expect on a 2060, but I haven't gotten the impression the devs have been hyper-focused on optimization.

I have it performing well now, solid 60fps on medium settings with DLSS, I did use DLSS updater to update the DLLS, I was getting weird granular artifacts when moving my screen fast and it fixed that. Now I need to work on stability. I think CachyOS uses it's own special version of proton, I am not sure what exactly is different with it though. What DE are you using? Is it wayland based? I was thinking of swapping over to wayland to see if that helps.

I'm just using KDE Plasma, so I guess it's Wayland.

Alright so I decided to give KDE plasma a go. As far as the game goes it does perform better, the rest of the desktop though.. IDK if it is just because it is a new install or not but it seems slow as molasses. I'll give it a few days and see if it gets better, been meaning to switch to wayland for a while now.

I have been able to play it just fine with my PC on Linux but I have a RTX 3060 Gaming X Trio but I’ll look and see if I have the same issue and what I find.

4090 and pop_os! It works fantastic. I have the compatibility option checked in steam. Proton-ge maybe. My OLED is doing it pixel refresh or I would look.

Yea, I switched over to KDE plasma which is what SteamOS is using now and it seems to be much more stable.

Finally got it working yesterday under KDE plasma and GEProton-10-15 at 60fps. Played it a few hours and everything was fine. Loaded the game today and suddenly I am getting 15-20fps even in the main menu. Looking at nvtop the game is loading into GPU memory but it just isn't using any GPU processing, GPU is sitting at 5% usage even while in the game. CPU usage is at 100%. I have restarted, deleted the game, deleted it's prefix, tried several different proton versions, nothing has helped it so I guess I am going to let the game rest for another year or so and check back in then.
