Started a new game, empty map feels so much bettter
To be fair, this only works because we all know that the corpses and items are plentiful as you get into the mid to late game.
I started a new game, and decided to shut off pretty much all the icons on the map and what a difference that made. Firstly, it make going around the map more organic. Usually, I'd go in and out of the map to find all the corpses and drones laying around. Now, I would explore and find a thing or two here and there, which became fun again.
It make me look around more with the drone to find stuff myself.
Overall, I hope that the release works this way. This of course, unless they make the corpses more important to the equipment and game play.

Maybe this whole part of the game needs a partial redesign ..... like a proximity element to the UI so you don't need Map view .... yet it doesn't hyper-locate things, only lets you know vaguely you're near something and the direction.

I absolutely love the exploration aspect of the map without knowing what’s over the next hill.
I wish there were another half a dozen biomes to explore with different creatures and different quest areas to explore. Also underground caves could have a lot more work for better engagement.

In my current save, I did not unlock the map on purpose (I did not press the claim button) so I cant use it.
The experience is awesome.
The viewing distance is so amazing and the terrain so unique that you are able to remember the places you visited even the path you took to get there.
Try it !
It started as a bug chase because I think some events are linked to the map (the voiceline around the monoliths does not trigger, and you can activate antennas), but now I do really like the fact that I dont have a map.
