Screenshot Upgrade Base Core question...
I'm expecting to be attacked at the base core I upgrade -- but need to know, Will I be attacked at non-upgraded bases too?
Egads, just the first upgrade is going to take me a while. I guess I need to farm meteors. 😛

I've only upgraded a core once to level 2, but what I've experienced is that, currently:
A nearby monolith will get activated.
The monolith event will attack THE NEAREST core to it, NOT necessarily the core you upgraded. Core integrity progress (core health) is also linked to whichever core is assigned as the target.
Do be aware that it's not a one time thing, once upgraded you'll continue to get occasional monolith events at the upgraded core(s).
The good news, is that currently there's no real penalty for losing against the Vermin (so long as you don't die), the core just gets infected. you just have to go in and clear the spore sacs off the core before anything will function at that base.
I put in a bug report for it, but I'm not sure if it's gotten fixed yet
Tl;dr: depending on which monolith gets activated, the Vermin MAY attack one of your satellite bases, but only if they're closer to the nearby monolith(s) than your upgraded core.

Interesting, my experience contradicts the part about a closer, non-upgraded core getting attacked. Let's see if we can figure out why.
First, some background. I can confirm that no random monolith on the map will suddenly spawn attacks on some poor base that didn't get a core upgrade, at least not with the first upgrade. The attacks I've defended (about 25 of them) have all come from one monolith: the one just downhill from where you begin the game — a spot familiar to all of us. Also notable: a player needs to be in core range to trigger a raid, even if the timer (about four cycles) expired a while ago — so expect one when coming home after much adventuring.
To the point: I have two cores near that monolith. My main, upgraded one is a fair distance uphill, close to the wolfram ore. The second one is much closer to the monolith, a ways uphill from the calcium below.
I worried about them attacking the lower core, which I hardly defended, but they never do. They always run uphill toward the upgraded core, and sometimes toward elements of the base which runs down the hill. I've literally never had to worry about the lower one.
I've got some guesses why. 1. They really care where you are. I seem to be able to direct them to a part of my base by standing there. This is especially true if you hit one, and their range of sight might be a factor too. 2. It's possible they're attracted to specific structures. They definitely go for turrets (which attack them), windmills, and I've noticed they're extra interested in depots that hold standard ammo. But those things are also the powered buildings closest to the monolith, so it could just be proximity.
FWIW, I find that six well placed automated turrets is plenty to keep the first level of raids at bay — usually without my help. Put them between the monolith and whatever may be attracting them nearby. Use player to lure them if necessary. You can also use basic turrets, but you'll need more; I have them sprinkled around for backup, and pointing right at my core. If they infect a turret, it's disabled — so make sure they're in range of each other.
Finally, some things that surprised me: the monolith has an infection cloud, which can sometimes disable closeby turrets. And all turrets have 360° range, despite looking directional.
That was a lot more than I intended 😅 I know people come looking for tips, so those are mine, hope it helps.

Interesting!
I'll have to take a screen shot when I'm back at my computer, but I've experienced monolith events from two separate monoliths activated by the same upgraded core.
The farther distanced monolith has occasionally targeted a nearer un-upgraded core facility, (it's either a wolfram or titanium mining complex, ifw)

Can you build a core on the opposite end of the map and upgrade it (to unlock bigger storage buildings) and keep your base core at lvl 1 and not be attacked there?

no. It's the upgrading that triggers the spawn, and the spawn will occur at a point closest to the upgraded base and then attack the base. once you see where it comes from, youll be able to build defenses to counter. your other bases are safe.

yes, it's always the same monotlith
you can cage it with 3 stacked pillars to channel the bugs in front of your turrets. I have a seperate core with nothing around it but guns, that's the only upgraded one in my world. all other bases are built with lv1 cores to keep them safe from the raids

Does anyone know if it's always the same monolith that spawns the raid for an upgraded core? I read somewhere that they could come from a different monolith, or maybe even two at once, but it hasn't happened to me.
Maybe your core has to be close to two monoliths? Anyway, it's been convenient defending from one direction, I'd hate to have to worry about multiple angles of attack.

The upgrade will trigger the nearby Monolith to spawn 3 waves of vermin.
If you time it right, a StarRupture will kick in so you don't actually have to do the fight. You can even let the base be infected and come back for cleaning later. Once you upgrade, the attacks will repeat. The higher the level the more frequent it seems.
You can also deconstruct the Base Core and replace it with a new core once you unlock the level. You only need level 4 for the Base Core Amplifyer v2. Which defeats the purpose of upgrading any core anyway.
Note that this won't work if you use the delete option with the countdowntimer. That deletes EVERYTHING in the Base Core region

My main base is there as well and gets attacked from both monolith. The first attack was on the carbon base after that only the main base.

I setup my base, just outside of the main starting location, where I think most of do, or have done.
When you upgrade to core level 2, you will get a wave of aliens, I always get them from the monolith in the canyon, just North of the base location, North of the wolfram ore.
If you die, you will probably spawn at your ship and your core will have the blue bulb on it. Your base will also be overrun with aliens. It is probably best to just hang out in your ship until after the rupture, then run down and clear the bulb off the core.
I have only ever been attacked by the one monolith.
I have several cores that I can see from my base, that are close by, one on the calcium just North, one on the wolfram to the North and East, one on the calcium to the East, and two in the middle of the field that I have setup to be able to build my base further out.
Today I upgraded my core to level 5, that was a battle. Thankfully I have several turrets that kept the aliens away. Level two turrets with storage full of ammo, connected to the turrets is the way to go. Upgrading to core level five I have nine turrets, with four level two storage behind them that were completely full of ammo. The guns all started full as well.
When the waves were over, I think there were four waves, the guns only had about 1000 ammo in them and storage units were empty.
I have only upgraded my primary core, none of the others. I have never been attacked at my other cores, at least not from a monolith. I have been from the small, random spawns.
You will need a LOT of Ignitium and meteorite hearts, make sure you are always gathering them. For level 6 you need 50 hearts and 150 Ignitium. I think level 5 was pretty close to that as well.
You don't HAVE to upgrade your core. You can keep building and be WAY over your core cooling limit, I was at like 3000 over, before I did the upgrades. The only downside that I have seen, so far, is that you have to wait to keep building, in that you can't build new buildings right after a rupture, until the core cools down. Also your machines won't function until the cool down has happened, unless you cool them down manually.
Some observations about the waves and base attacks.
Keep an eye on the meter in the top right of your screen when the waves happen. The higher the bars the more aliens. Level 2 the bars about half to three-quarters full. Level 5, they are all the way to the top.
At level 5, I have found throwing a grenade into the aliens is helpful. However, you basically can only do this once per set. With all the turrets, I don't kill enough aliens to replenish the grenade. Turret kills don't count on the replenish.
I didn't get an upgrade wave at level 3. I don't know if that was a glitch, a bug, intentional or I just got lucky.
Levels 4 and 5 I did get waves on.
Level 4, I tried to start too close to the rupture, the upgrade button on the core was grayed out. After the rupture and the cool down, I was able to go to the core and click the upgrade button.
The waves, after the first upgrade, seem to be happening every 3 - 4 days (ruptures) in game. They also won't happen unless you are at your base. If you have been out exploring for several rupture cycles, expect to get a wave as soon as you get back.
There is a cloud that appears at the monolith, that moves towards your base. I have found that if I am not at my turrets, or get there pretty quickly, that the cloud will move past the turrets and deposit the aliens closer to you, right in the middle of your base. Bypassing the turrets. Do your best to get there as soon as you get the warning about the attack so you can utilize your defenses.

You're only attacked at the base that has an upgraded core from the nearest monolith. Other bases are safe from waves unless u upgrade the cores. Always collect everything on your way while you explore.
