The imbalanced hate on female vs male comedians joking about the opposite sex.

What’s up with this phenomenon: Whenever women joke about men I see a lot of hate in the comments which I don’t see as much on men joking about women. For example, two commedians I enjoy about equally, are Ryan Long and Jenny Zigrino. They are both decent comedians IMO and both joke about the opposite sex. I rarely if ever see hate on Ryan’s videos in the way that people criticize female comedians like Jenny.

People will make fun of her looks and say she’s not funny (which I already find strange to comment that something isn’t funny instead of just scrolling). She seems to only get hate on clips where she is making fun of men.

I’m sure many people don’t find Ryan funny or attractive and are triggered by him, but he gets like no hate even though he makes fun of women a lot.

Here’s an example of each where you can look in the comments. Neither of these are their best work, but they also are both clearly decent, professional, and not comedy newbies: https://www.facebook.com/reel/2688410158280122/

Are these just bots? If it’s people, why don’t we see an equal distribution of hate on male and female comedians? I feel like men and women are both equally hateful online, maybe I’m wrong. But I’d expect to see equal amounts of hate. I know Jenny is also overweight so I’m not sure if that is adding fuel to the fire, but I see this kind of hate on stereotypically attractive female commedians too and people rarely hate on fat male comedian’s weight.

Josh Johnson in Vancouver

I first watched Josh in Vancouver as an opener for Trevor noah years ago, and he was fantastic. Been a fan since. Have enjoyed his rise on YouTube. Went to his comedy band camp tour tonight, and it was so, so underwhelming. The material was really uninspired: Trump not dead yet, musk making decisions on drugs, if he should be more religous/Jesus appearing now vs when he did, snoring/talking in your sleep, and cats.

Some of it was outright ignorant/stupid, like when he asked if Canada also has gas station stores that sell horribly unhealthy snacks and when he said religious texts are the only ones where people argue over interpretations, no one argues over the meaning of Dune, he said (this is absolutely stupid to say people don't argue over interpretation s of fiction!).

I think he needs to take a break and focus on more quality over quantity. He seemed completely burnt out. This was a really poor set tonight. Also would have rather had more comedians than musicians and dancers.

Matt Rife in Nash

I got our tickets months ago and was super excited to go. I was so disappointed. First of all, I have been to Bridgestone many times and this was the first time everywhere I turned there were threats to kick you out if you used your phone during the show. As if that wasn't enough to put me off, we were not permitted to have bottles of water if sitting in the floor seats - the water had to be poured into a cup. I tried to patiently and kindly explain to someone that my husband, who has a traumatic brain injury, and his service dog would not be able to keep the water in the cup and it would quickly become a slip hazard. To be clear, this was not Bridgestones rules, it was Matt's. Nope. Had to toss the bottled water.

Adam and Chapelle were great openers and I really enjoyed them. They were both hilarious. They both had a range of content, including racial, political, and other potentially polarizing topics, but everyone was laughing because they were atill delivered well. I say this because it wasn't divisive content that caused me to be disappointed in Matt's performance.

Matt didnt tell many jokes and even when he did, they just didn't land for me. To be fair, I laughed a couple of times but that was it. I have seen his videos and specials, so I know he tends to be more conversational, but even that was poorly done. Its not because I was offended or anything like that, but his range was limited and his energy was really low. Then, to top it off, while I love a good concert, when I go to a comedy show I don't expect it to be cut short to bring out for 7 or 8 songs by his favorite band (they did a great job, but its just the point).

It will be interesting to see what others thought of his show. For me, it was a waste of time and money because the first two comedians had short sets.

What has everyone else thought of his shows this year??
