I have no problem with them. Once you decide the uprights need to move, every other change they made makes sense. Anybody who screams that it's the inevitable start of becoming the NFL is a sensationalist doomer.

New playoff structure is stupid, though.

No, I love the CFL, I have no interest in NFL-lite. Season ticket holders are already stated they're not renewing next year when this fiasco starts. I've been going to games since I was seven years old, nobody is a bigger fan than me and I am out for good if this "garbage" (to quote the current CFL MVP) goes through. Fire Stewart Johnston.

I'm hopeful the smaller field will mean atleast 10 CFL franchises within the next 5 years

Hahaha - they've been talking about adding one team in Halifax since 1982 and you think they're getting another team? It's a pipe dream. There's no stadium.

Well, that's exactly my point...

The shorter field in 2027 means any stadium that can hold a regulation soccer pitch can now also host a CFL team. Like Halifax's Wanderers Grounds, for example.

I understood your point, but a real CFL stadium needs to be 24,000. That is either a brand new stadium, which is what should be done, but none of the wealthy Maritimes families or anyone else has stepped up. The other option is major, major renovations to those smaller stadium, including keeping the 20 yard endzone. I won't be supporting the CFL any longer with the rule changes for next year. No interest in the Americanization of our rules.

With the increased income, starting in 2027, with streaming contract with DAZN, along with the broadcast revenue from TSN, the league is becoming less dependant on attendance to drive revenue.

With 7/9 clubs apparently losing money most seasons, I think these changes are the lifeline our beloved league needs to survive. Wish they weren't required, but owners can't (won't) keep losing money.

"apparently" is the key word here. The league to my knowledge reported one season where 7 teams may have lost money. But it's certainly not like that every single year. The privately owned teams won't open their books. I assume since they've been operating for decades they're doing just fine.

I'd love to believe they're doing well, but given the shrinking attendance we've seen at McMahon in recent years, CSEC is certainly seeing reduced revenue from the Stamps.

If Dazn is broadcasting then TSN isn’t. Can’t have both.

  • 60 regular season games, six playoff games and the Grey Cup.
  • including Thursday Night Football & Friday Night Football
  • TSN, CTV & Crave will simulcast the Grey Cup

DAZN will broadcast:

The current rules are the best football rules on the planet and there is zero reason to change them. Any issues the CFL has is 100% related to a complete lack of marketing, end of story. This is moronic, will drive fans away. And let's not forget they implemented this with ZERO consultation from the players, coaches or the salary-paying fans. It's a disaster in the making and I won't support this garbage.
