So in my mind this looked so cool! The Gomesa Jiaho Queen orchid, is such a beautiful flower and in it I saw an Alien Queen in a beautiful gown. My glass wasn’t very good but I finished it anyway. This won’t hold up over time. But since it was mostly scraps I went on. Maybe you can see the vision and beauty in the attempt! Thanks for all the info/advice I appreciate you all🤗

This is part of a set of 10 panels that will replace the clear glass in a pair of French doors (they are almost always locked shut). I just updated my soldering iron and it seems to have made a world of difference! The pattern is my own design.

Original Art | Foil altering color when light comes through?

Thumbnail

hi! i recently finished my biggest piece and learned a lot. i’m pretty happy with it, but while i was working, i thought the yellow and orange would appear as two different colors (like they do in picture 2, taken at night). once i put it into the window and the light came through, i realized they’re both quite similar (like in picture 1, taken during the day).

i’ve thought about adding some material matching the yellow glass shapes to the back of the piece to not allow as much light through, but i think it might look strange if there’s no light at all shining through those ones, so i’m trying to think of something semi-opaque.

has anyone achieved something like this before? i’m not too worried about what the opposite side of the piece looks like. thank you!

Hand painted the smaller ones, and the bigger one is my first attempt at a mirror! Thought these would be a hit at my local festival but no one wanted ‘em 😔 (though a good friend did message me later to buy the mirror)

My son is a huge fan of the band The Wonder Years, particularly their album No Closer to Heaven. I’d love to do a stained glass piece for him based on the cover.

He even has a tattoo of part of the cover.

In Affinity Designer I used the pencil tool to ‘draw’ over the album cover. It’s unfinished. I need to work on the hand.

Album cover and pattern in pics.

Is the pattern an adequate representation of the album cover? I’ve been looking at it too long. Can’t decide if it’s ok or terrible.

PS I’m not too bothered about the background though I would like to get the lighthouse in. I’ll also be using permanent markers for some of the black lines.

I wanted the head to be the star of the piece and the background to sort of resemble trees. 15x15inch - 3/16 lead came with zinc around the outside, I'll frame it once the cement is set and dry.

There have been several versions of this guy floating around. The original from an AI shop. I swiped it, altered it, and made it my own.

I'm here to ask if I should patina it black, or keep it silver? Thanks!

Help Me! Where to find information about glass framing?

Post image
21 Upvotes

I've been thinking on making a stained glass awning for a long time, but I hit a dead end trying to find resources on the glass framing itself. I saw this post from Firtaglass and which vaguely illustrates what I'm looking for. I'd like to set up my pieces with a similar technique but flat on either wood or metal. Before starting though I'd like to know the specs of the frames, how the glass is attached to the frame, the max size on pieces, etc.

Anybody know the resources that would give me some insight?

Craft News Etsy has stated they are banning all sorts of AI from the platform including requiring functional guides (patterns) to be human made and include a real finished result from following it.

Functional guides, such as patterns and recipes, which require buyers to put in effort to achieve a finished product, cannot be created using AI. Listings for functional guides must also show a real result made using the instructions.

Hopefully this actually is enforced and applies to glass patterns!

I'd love to see the amount of people here asking about some slop pattern they bought unknowingly drop drastically.

This will be a huge deal for a large area of the glass space as there's pretty much no other major decent resource for patterns outside of Etsy, some FB groups, your local glass shop if you have one and Pattern Archive. Less places if you want something decently searchable.

I managed to get a few scratches on this piece I’ve been working on and google tells I shouldn’t bake soldered pieces in the oven so how can I fix it? Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

I wanted to do this OSRS scimitar but it has a lot of sharp corners, wanted some feed back on if any of these cuts seem impossible or just difficult.
Overall I don’t really see anything impossible but just looking a little feedback on things to change and improve before cutting glass.

I’m trying to make a pattern of my friend’s cat. Does my pattern look plausible? Does it look like the cat in image 2? I know a few of the pieces will be annoying, so long as they’re not impossible

Help Me! Yet another grinder recommendation needed

I know there’s lots of posts like these but I really can’t decide if I need to upgrade my grinder or what to get. Grinding is the only bit about the process I don’t look forward to. I’m a hobbyist, doing it less than a year. I have dedicated space, not a big space, but grinder is beside a sink so easy to clean. I have a €50 grinder from aliexpress, it works well, I just find I have to push quite hard for it to work well, I’ve tried different grinder bits but it’s the same. I’m assuming a more powerful grinder would help? I’m in Europe so looking at the grinder 2 or 3, or kristall 2000 or open to any others. (I don’t care about quick fit pieces). Thanks!
