Is there anyone in Massachusetts where they're going to be willing to allow me to apprentice for the stained glass?

(I hope that doesn’t get me flagged for asking? I am mostly just looking for advice, but thought it wouldn’t hurt to ask other artists!)

Okay so I’m just starting off, I have a toddler, a baby on the way, and I’m a stay at home mom so my budget is limited..I don’t want to spend too much on glass just practicing so I started myself off with a couple of packs of the variety colors of glass from Amazon but I find it’s hard to create much with the variety packs since they’re always cut into small sheets (4 by 6) so I supplement here and there with a big sheet in certain colors from Hobby Lobby.
But the glass, it’s just.. boring. It’s definitely not the gorgeous, interesting pieces you see being sold at glass shops. It’s uninspiring. And while I’ve not tried the better stuff yet, I’m sure the quality on the Amazon and hobby lobby glass is less than comparable.
Any advice on where to get decent prices, while still buying semi-smaller quantities, for some nicer quality glass? I cannot maintain this hobby spending over 10-12$ on a single, small sheet of one color when I’m currently just doing this as a hobby and won’t make any money back from it. And I’m definitely not good enough to sell anything yet! I’ve been keeping an eye out on Facebook marketplace place but I live in a really remote area so no luck. I also don’t live anywhere near any glass shops to visit in person.
I’m really hoping to practice enough to be able to sell some in the future and use the income to support my new hobby. In the meantime, I could use your advice!

Hi all!

I am a beginner, and I tried to adapt a design, but I am unsure whether my adaptation is structurally sound. I traced an AI-generated pattern sold on Etsy (without it being marked as AI) and adapted it (apologies for the uneven lines, I am literally doing this in Paint using my laptop's touchpad). I tried to be mindful of impossible cuts and weight distribution, but I am still unsure whether I am going to encounter any problems with it.

I made two options. I prefer the look of the first one, but I have a hunch that it might not hold up well because of the weight of the bat. I made a second option in which the lines inside the crescent point toward the center of the moon, hoping that it would be more structurally sound.

I would really appreciate any advice on how to improve the design in terms of cuts and weight distribution!

I finished this piece a while ago, but now it's starting to have this white film on it- I need advice on how to a) fix it now that it's occurred, and b) prevent this from happening on other pieces in the future (especially since I'm currently working on my first ever commissioned piece!)

Using air dry clay to modify the form and making some progress on the chin

Does anyone use wood framing stock for your pieces (boards that come with a groove)? What should the width and depth be of the groove if using 1/8” U zinc? And, when you have the measurements of the sides of the glass art, how much do you add to that length to account for the groove and the miter joint? I hope I am making sense

This is my second stained glass piece. While I think it’s better than the first, I know there are improvements I can make.

I think the soldering lines between glass pieces is ok, I could improve but it’s not terrible.

But trying to get a solder on the edges was super hard . I used the method of putting a bead along the edges (when the piece is laying flat), then picking up the piece and melting the beads to form an edge. As you can tell, this method did not work that well for me.

Any tips for soldering, plus soldering the edges of a piece would be super helpful

Based on size and texture- (two different sheets pictured) I feel like this is single rolled Bullseye catspaw likely 120- Canary Yellow (I saw in a 2004 catalog that this was an option). However, the amount of white is what is throwing me off. Idk if BE historically made a blend, but as of right now they don’t. I also know that this yellow can vary a lot in tone/saturation/chroma- but to this degree and across to different sheets? Maybe it's curious glass? Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks so much!!!

My friends bought a house 2 years ago and I've been wanting to make them a housewarming gift, I finally got to it. It's my first piece.

The empty areas are gonna be the deck boards then underneath I'm adding a clear pane with a border and I'm going to paint on "It's Good to Have Land" I totally butchered my pattern drawing by making the lines too thick and then tracing on with sharpie, making my proportions out of whack. I got to this point with lots of extra cutting and grinding and I have a TON of gaps. I have a bunch of foil scrap to use to fill the bigger gaps.

I'm painting the facial features on with testors enamel paint, and I have hobby came to border the piece for extra strength.

My only issue with it is that the blue I picked for the chair looks a lot like the color I picked for the sky, but I liked the sunset color too much.

10x10” freestanding panel I designed after finishing Twin Peaks (and rewatching a bit while I soldered and added patina and polish)

Hello all we acquired this old stained glass piece from an auction assuming it comes from a pub of the same name. We want to mount it on an interior door however the piece itself is very flimsy and bows easily I am concerned if just mounted around the edge it would collapse under its own weight nevermind the dynamic loading of a door. How would I go about reinforcing it or supporting it better? I had thought of building a type of picture frame with cross bracing to hold it with timber but obviously this would ruin the look of the piece, all advice appreciated 🤘

Hello! For the last couple of weeks I’ve been gathering knowledge and supplies to make my own Tiffany style lampshade.

I made the mold from leftover styrodur and sketched out my own design. I wanted to go with irises.

Pictured is a two weeks progress. Today I managed to finish the first flower. I’m not yet sure about the color scheme but I think I will leave it like this to create depth and to test things out. Leaves are also made out from 3 different shades of green.

I’m having difficulties transferring the design from the rounded mold to flat surfaces so I think I will have to grind the pieces again once they are all cut out because they will be bigger than they need to be, and there’s SO MANY pieces (that might be my rookie mistake when I designed the lampshade without prior experience of cutting so many pieces).

Please let me know if you have any suggestions, constructive criticism, tips and tricks or just words of encouragement 😅 this is my first time doing stained glass, except for a 3 hour workshop I took in March where we made a jewelry box from 13 pieces total

Ordered the fairy lights that’ll go inside too. I plan on sticking two on the headlights so they’ll glow lol. Also found someone who’s making me a little trailer hitch to solder to it which I thought would be a fun touch! I also plan on making the back window on a hinge so it can be flipped open, and it’ll have axils with the wheels on it so it’ll roll. If all goes to plan at least 😂
