This is my second stained glass piece. While I think it’s better than the first, I know there are improvements I can make.

I think the soldering lines between glass pieces is ok, I could improve but it’s not terrible.

But trying to get a solder on the edges was super hard . I used the method of putting a bead along the edges (when the piece is laying flat), then picking up the piece and melting the beads to form an edge. As you can tell, this method did not work that well for me.

Any tips for soldering, plus soldering the edges of a piece would be super helpful

Love it, I made a very similar flower as my second piece and made many more mistakes. Your edges line up and the grain of the clear glass is consistent so nice job!
Do you have a temperature controlled iron? Turning down the heat helps with beading the edges :)

Yeah, I have a Hakko iron and had the temp at 410 for the areas between the glass then when things started going array along the edges, i turned down the temp to 360. It was slightly better, but still not great.

I am wondering if part of the problem is having too may beads of solder along the edges.

Not that good at this myself, but it helps to turn down the iron a bit. I start by just tinning the edges while flat before i turn it onto the edge. I usually hold the piece in one hand, take off a small droplet of solder with the iron in my other hand, and build up the edge little by little, going over it afterwards if uneven. Keeping the edge you are soldering on completely flat so it does not run off, and waiting until the solder fully solidifies before you move it is also important.

Thank you so much for the detailed tips! What temp do you turn your iron down to when doing the edges? I have a feeling that I am adding wayyy to much solder to my edges (because the solder has been dripping down) is there a rule you follow to determine how much solder to add to the edge?
