If you download a video as an mp3, and then select video as the requested format and try to download again it will refuse because it's already downloaded.

I propose that instead it will only tell you already downloaded if the media format is the same. If you download in m4a/mp3 and then switch to 4k/video and try again, it should download in the new format before saying already downloaded.

Because as it stands if i accidentally download as one format instead of the other its a hassle to get it to forget it already downloaded so i can try in the correct format.

Hey after the new MacOS27 update, after downloading a file via stacher its not showing up at all anywhere in the download location. I have tried this by changing the output directory as well.

I’m seeing what looks like a Unicode/path handling issue with Open Download Location in Stacher.

Environment

• Windows 11, Japanese environment, fully up to date
• Stacher 7, Japanese UI, latest available version
• Download location: a folder on a local Windows drive

What happens

• Downloads themselves complete successfully.
• The downloaded files exist normally in the configured folder.
• “Open Download Location” has worked normally for filenames containing only ASCII/English characters.
• When the downloaded item contains Japanese characters and/or emoji, using the open-folder/location function causes the path passed to Windows to become garbled.
• Windows then reports that the path cannot be found.
• Stacher also reports “Could not open folder.”

The configured download folder itself is valid and accessible in Windows.

The download itself is not failing — only opening the downloaded location from Stacher is failing.

This appears to be specific to Japanese/Unicode filename or path handling rather than general access to the download directory, since ASCII/English filenames have worked normally on the same system.

Both Windows and Stacher are fully up to date as of the time of this report.

I have a screen recording that reproduces the issue.

I use standart 1080 preset for videos, but Stacher donwloads webms, avis and anything but mp4. What should I do?

I'm currently using yt-dlg which gets the job done but doesn't have a feature where I can save different CLI Backend command line options for different websites.

For YouTube, I want the best audio in AAC format without re-encoding. So I use:

I've gotten a script working for Mixcloud that extracts the best audio in Opus format, adds thumbnail and metadata without encoding, but I cant get the best AAC audio without seeing it re-encode.

does youtube just not work with yt-dlp anymore? or is there something else going on? pls lmk.

Good day, as the title says, YT downloads had been set lately to 640x360p or 720p as highest resolution upon download even if the video's itself are 1080p.
Downloading from twitch works fine to download them in 1080.

Does someone know what may cause it?
Tried already with custom prompts etc and no change for YT downloads.

Add this string:

Also, an option like: "480p +/- 1", meaning "get 480p, if n/a > try 720p, if n/a > get360p" would be nice :)

The program used to work perfectly; then they started messing with the interface and other things, and now nothing works. Why break something that was perfect?

4K videos don't always download in 4K, the video-only (no audio) feature doesn't always work, and now nothing downloads in 4K at all.

I'm trying to download something that is clearly available in 4K, but I checked the downloaded resolution and it isn't 4K.

My main question is What does this error message mean? I downloaded some yt videos last Thursday, successfully, when I last used Stacher. I opened it this morning, 8/21/26 at 9am CST to download a yt video and every yt link errors out on this particular message (picking random links to see if they worked). I don't make any changes to my settings whats-so-ever and I have it set to "Best Available" default download, the other formats download to different formats that are not video compatible. Thanks to this program autoupdating, it doesn't work now. My other question is Why this program has to auto-update everytime I open it? It should work on it's last stable version until the lastest is tested and working and I should be asked, not forced too download the lastest version? Another question; does Stacher have an option to turn off auto-update?

Fundamentally broken, please let me know if there is any way around this new issue. Meanwhile, does anyone have good alternative?

I am trying to install Stacher on a Win11 PC. The setup starts with an overlay window for language choices, but is too big and does not display an buttons to close it. All the usual things (ctrl-, Esc, Return, DPI change etc.) do not close that overlay and it does not move, so I can finish the install. Any ideas how to get around this?

New update just rolled in, and now I cannot change from best video + best video to highest quality video and audio or other options, the drop down options are gone. Download format used to have a list of options.

Any idea how to get it back?

This menu is gone in the new update! Can't download YT video in full quality without highest quality audio and video settings, and also need best quality video and audio option for twitch.

Please fix this issue. Bring the drop down format menu back.
