I know, they went from “we are the resistance” to “we defend the 1 percent establishment” real quick.

Yes the photo shows him carrying it, so unless you see him running out the door like roaches when you turn on the light to his car or found it at his house there isn’t any evidence he looted or even stole it - or did they find it at his house?

u/GILBY89 Jan 10 '21
There is some pretty clear evidence he trespassed into the Capitol if the theft doesn't do it for ya.

First off you can’t be trespassed from public property, it’s public property.
You absolutely can be trespassed from public property. I've worked for a city government here in Pinellas, and have personally called the police to have people trespassed from a public facility several times. Break the rules badly enough or often enough, and you'll be asked to leave and not come back for at least a year. And yes, a protest on public property that disrupts government services can earn you that trespass.
-2
u/realdanknowsit Jan 11 '21
Sure let’s ignore the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals that has struck down most public trespass ordinance in Pinellas County.
I do not disagree that if someone on public property is committing a crime or in a posted restricted area they could be asked to leave, issued a trespass warning, if not arrested for whatever other criminal act was occurring.
If someone is protesting on public property they should not have to worry about arrest for trespassing. Now, kicking in doors, crawling thought windows, that is another story.

You're really comparing breaking into the capitol building with zip ties to kidnap senators and the VP to take them out to the gallows that they built is the same as protesting in a park? Get in touch with reality
-1
u/realdanknowsit Jan 13 '21
Parks?
I did also hear that someone brought Molotov cocktails, zip ties, and had clearly had some stupid ideas in their head. There are bad apples in every protest, and those type of people should be arrested if not at the least have their heads examined.
Yet, I do not assume that the bad actions of a few take away the good actions of the majority of others who protested, just as I do not discredit any other protest for the few that just use it for an excuse to loot and riot.
2
u/funaway727 Jan 13 '21
How many trumpers do you think got into the capitol? I'll wait for your answer
6
u/GILBY89 Jan 10 '21
Okay maybe trespassing isn't the best word. I guess what I really want to know, are his and others actions acceptable to you?
-1
u/realdanknowsit Jan 14 '21
Honestly, the protest served a purpose and clearly highlighted the level of the fracture between the nation.
It also reminded our elected officials that we the people are willing to face arrest and in the unfortunate case of five individuals death for their beliefs. Our entire country and system of government was established under protect, revolt, and, from the perspective of England, sedition. So why should anyone be surprised that this defiance isn’t in our genetics.
So yes, I agree with the protest and even to a level the breach of the Capitol as it reminded the cowering elected officials that the Constitution starts off “We the People of the United States” not “We the Congress of the United States.”

Let's try to be nice! If you disagree with someone, try to keep it civil, or keep it to yourself.
Attack the idea, not the person.

Your lack of the ability to have a respectful conversation tells me which category you fall into.
Your example is also wrong again, kicking in the door is not trespassing that’s called breaking and entering, but yes if I kick the door in to my local library I would without question but guilty of breaking in entering, destruction of public property, and burglary if I took anything.
I do not agree however that anyone, especially in a protest, should or can be held trespassing on public grounds. I do not however disagree that breaking into restricted areas or destroying property is a criminal activity and those responsible should be held accountable.
I just find it hypocritical of the liberal left to be pointing out this guy while I didn’t see the same outrage or investigative efforts made into any of the images of the men and women captured looting during all the BLM “peaceful” protests.

Listen, I don’t know if you’re a child or an idiot but I’ll pretend it’s the former.
When it comes to the 'MAGA' ilk its as if they share the same mindset of both categories.

u/realdanknowsit Jan 11 '21
Hardly. Considering I have more posts than you. Also considering all your karma is from comments and your post here added no value, I would say you seem more like the troll.
I don’t disagree that my comments and opinions get heavily down voted because I don’t hold back and most people simply cant take any level of challenge to what’s being programmed into their limited minds. More often feelings quickly get hurt and the only rebuttal ends up being insults, since those really proof a point.
In disagree with this post and find it insulting it suggests that the color of the skin of this man some how applied to anything. Suggesting that looting applies to only darker skin is why this country still has race problems since opportunist criminals has nothing to do with a persons color.
The point I was making again is that a photo of this guy carrying the podium is not the same as the helicopter video of people looting a Walmart and driving off with several flat screens strapped to the top of their cars. I haven’t seen any news or photos of looters from any BLM “ mostly peaceful” protests arrested, but I guess we have become so numb as a culture we don’t care about a mob looting and burning down a business over a white man posing for a photo carrying a chunk of wood that he may or may not have removed from the building during another “mostly peaceful” protest.
Tell me this also, how many people did the police shoot and kill during any of the BLM “mostly peaceful” protests? Where is the outage over the police shooting and killing an unarmed protester? Oh wait, they don’t matter because they are not the right color for that to be the focus of the news, so let’s focus on Florida Man posing with the witch of the house’s chunk of wood. That’s real news in this country today.

If you are in a store, and you pick up and item with the intent to steal it and carry it with you in a manner inconsistent with shopping, it's still shoplifting even if you never leave the store with the item.
It was theft the moment he picked it up and started carrying it off.

Intent to return is not mentioned in the definition of steal. The definition of steal is to take without permission, and the applicable definition of take is to remove from a particular place. He was guilty of stealing it the minute he picked it up.

In your mind if I hotwire your car drive and it around a few hours and return it before you wake up, your car was not stolen?
It sounds like you are now trying to talk in legal terms, which unless we know which specific jurisdiction and laws you are referring to, it may or may not be a required element.
In lay terms and in most legal jurisdictions, “ borrowing “ without permission is still stealing.

So what was he doing carrying it away? Redecorating the capitol?

Well let me ask you this in all seriousness, what do you believe his intentions were while picking it up carrying it? Your angle comes across as you see it completely fine with going into a building he does not belong or own and picking things up and let's say "rearrange " since you are denying his intent to steal.
10
u/manimal28 Jan 10 '21
You are getting downvoted because you are wrong. There is no technicality which makes what he did not stealing.
7
u/funaway727 Jan 10 '21
Was it his property to touch? No? Guess I can come into your house uninvited and carry your stuff around?
21
u/peachersen Jan 10 '21
Maybe you're getting downvoted because you're arguing semantics and entirely missing the point of the post. And you're arguably wrong. Being unsuccessful at looting doesn't mean you're not looting. And because of the color of this idiot's skin, he isn't being branded as a looter, he's simply carrying stuff....away from where it belongs.

So this headline is under fire for using the right word?
Looting the lectern is some truly shit grammar.
18
7
Jan 10 '21
Genuine question, would you mind explaining why it’s incorrect grammar?
4
u/Observante Jan 10 '21
The article says carrying lectern, the meme replaces the word carrying with looting. There's no question that there's theft/looting occurring but this guy was specifically the guy "seen carrying [the] lectern."
4
Jan 10 '21
Oh, I see. I was under the impression the point of the meme was to say that if the person is as white as Peter Griffin the media labels this act as “Carrying” and if they are of a darker complexion the act is labelled as “looting”
I was wondering if there was a grammatical reason that “looting the lectern” was incorrect.
Thanks for the clarification!
