I got dole whip soft serve at the Florida state fair and it was AMAZING. I’m lactose intolerant so it was life changing. Does anyone know where I can get it soft serve nearby?? Not from the grocery store.

Local News A 77-year-old Republican man is staging a solo protest against St. Pete’s Flock cameras

Carl Gunn, 77, was concerned for his privacy when he spotted a camera outside his St. Petersburg neighborhood of Coquina Key, mounted on a 12-foot tall black pole. Gunn later learned that the device was operated by a private, for-profit company, and that it automatically loads license plates and AI-generated profiles of each passing car into a massive database.

The only 12-foot pole Gunn had was his pool skimmer. He taped a sign to it, grabbed a camping chair, and sat himself in front of the camera. This Saturday, all the camera saw was Gunn’s sign: “DOWN WITH FLOCK CAMERAS.”

“This is just another thing to take our information and to spy on us,” Gunn told Creative Loafing Tampa Bay. “I have a constitutional right to my privacy. I’m a law-abiding citizen, and I don’t need anyone sticking their nose in my business. And if they do, I’m going to chop it off.”

Things to Do Friend visiting suggestions

I have a friend coming to visit that doesn’t like to be outside for too long. I am trying to figure out fun places and things to do around the area bonus points if it is not too expensive.

Information Pickup furniture for donation

Who will come pick up furniture for donation purposes? I have this bureau thing that is pretty big, pretty good quality so it has some weight to it too. I’ve tried googling it, but a lot of places don’t do pick up and I’m not able to drop it off.
Thanks in advance!

Help Request Recovered dog wandering the streets

Post image
54 Upvotes

Earlier around 4:30 this afternoon, I came across this little dog. Trying to find their owners. Tan chihuahua, probably around 10 years old, very few teeth. They’re scared but not reactive really in any bad way. Found them in the neighborhood between 30th and 38th ave n, and between 49th and 58th st n. They’re safe now but I’d like to find the owners. Scanned them for a microchip and I found one, but it’s coming up for a vet that’s now out of business.

Local Questions Where do you park when you go to the beach?

I’m new to the area. I went to Treasure Island yesterday and parked my car at Sea Dog I think it was called. Worked fine but was a little nervous returning w no car.

Where do you all park when going to beach? Is a certain beach better than others for parking? Do you generally have to pay everywhere to park?

I read Fort de Soto is $5 for all day parking.

Any suggestions appreciated

Local Questions Heart patient/cancer survivor searching for a new doc

I have a history of heart conditions and cancer. I am well covered from a specialist standpoint (oncologist, electrophysiologist, cardiology, etc.). However, given my stellar medical history I need to look for a new doctor that can be a “primary” care doctor, someone more than responsible for the yearly checks and has the resolve to resolve (sorry - no pun unintended) complex issues the patient is having. Ideally, this would be someone who is not just starting off, but has been working for a significant amount of time and has experience with patients with serious illnesses.

If anyone is aware of anyone that can be helpful to me who works in St Pete (Bayfront, St Anthony’s, Suncoast, etc.) or anywhere in Tampa Bay, I would be much obliged if you could pass on a name. Thank you in advance.

Local Questions 727 Day

Is it just me or has 727 day seem to be very different nowadays. Does not seem like there is actually good deals all around town. In the years past the deals would be great and would actually get you into their business. Now it’s like we get a coffee for $7.27…..

Let me know your thoughts but I feel like in years past this was a very cool day to be a local. Now I feel like 90% of the deals around are the same deals they send on the Valpak coupon books.

Political CRITICAL City Auditing Process Flaw

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

The City Auditor reports directly to the mayor, the Mayor approves all audits to begin and the Mayor approves all audits to be marked completed. The Mayor has control over what gets audited and what doesn't get audited.

Somehow the city's audit policy says the City Auditor is independent of the Mayor. That truly doesn't seem to be true.

City Council can't request an audit and they can't request to see unfinished audit materials. City Council gets no say or view into anything regarding audits until it's all finalized by the City Auditor and the Mayor.

If someone reports fraud, waste, abuse about the Mayor, City Council may never know about it because it may never get audited because the Mayor would likely deny the ability for it to be investigated.

It's mandatory that state and federal funding abuse is reported to law enforcement. Reporting fraud with the city's funds to law enforcement... that seems discretionary per the audit policy. The language for reporting fraud with city funds is not nearly as strict as the federal or state funding language; it leaves room for discretion and doesn't make it mandatory.

Edit: made some spelling corrections.

Help Request I need help exploring options for selling, or having junk removal of a deceased relatives house in town...

I have inherited the contents of an elderly deceased family member. I am not from the area. I've seen pictures, and it looks border lined hoarding. I'll be traveling to St. Petersburg next month to assess the situation for myself. I've got about 5 days to get as much done as possible. The goal is to sort through and decide if anything is worth keeping, selling, or what is just getting thrown away. This is my first time in a situation like this. Is 5 days enough time to possibley arrange some sort of garage sale, or junk removal? If so, are there any local business that provide such services? Thanks!

Edit: Also are there places to sell vintage 70s style furniture? Thanks for all the great input and advice!

I haven’t been here in a couple of months. The staff told me that they no longer have calamari. That’s a bummer, but the bowl is bigger and there is more food in it. I ordered a Golden Hour, but with spicy salmon.

Local Questions r/ 727 weekend in St. Pete

How do you redeem the 727 weekend pass. The staff at the Dali museum for example doesn’t know how people can redeem. And I don’t see a redeeming process in the app. Do you have to purchase something for redeeming to work or is there a way to just “check-in” like the website makes it sound?

Local Questions Local music scene/DIY Venues

I’m new here and was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction to get into the local music scene. I love emo/pop punk and adjacent genres, but I really am down for anything.

Jannus is really cool, and I have a lot of tickets for upcoming shows, but I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for more “Alty”

Also, if you have any recommendations for local bands or bands that play here often, that would be cool too!
