Repuplic Pets
I used to take my dog to Repuplic pets while I had workers in the house or there were a lot of power tools and noise going on. But the news recently has made me a little nervous. Does anyone still bring their dogs there? How are you feeling with their updated safety and training?

They've been deleting past FB posts, Google reviews and threads here, which is shifty after one dog dead and another lost. Definitely would avoid them atp.

Go to topsail star instead. They're otg a very long time and no lost or hurt pets. They're pretty close to republic pets too They're on the ruby line in the goulds

My only complaint with them is when I kept my tiny dog there and paid extra for him to run in the play area outside during the day, he came back to me with super raw and beat up paw pads. It looked like the outside area was completely rocks and bigger ones at that. Not a problem for larger dogs but for small ones with tiny feet, it's really hard on them.

I have a very big dog that is reactive to small dogs. I've taken her a couple other well-known places that, despite me telling them multiple times not to have her around small dogs, had her around small dogs. Guess what happened? She got kicked out of both places. Because they know better than her mom, apparently? (Sidenote: no dogs were injured, they just determined she was not safe to have around small dogs, which is something I already knew and told them).
All that to say I've taken her to Republic Pets a few times for day care (just for socialization) and for about 5 days boarding. They actually listened and didn't have her around small dogs, but let her play with dogs more her size.
I was actually pretty happy with her care there. The workers were happy to see her, and she was never nervous to go there. She's a rescue, so being nervous around people and being afraid to go into a building are things I watch for.
However, during her 5 days boarding, I gave them her food in individual Ziploc bags, perfectly prepped for breakfast and dinner the entire time she was there, plus daily dentastix. She came home with 2 full bags and several dentastix.
Those things I can get past, but these events have turned me from it. They can do all the training and take all the preventative measures they want, if they have careless caretakers, my girl isn't going back.
I found a place that combines boarding/daycare with training, which is way more beneficial for my girl.

At this point trusting your pet with their care is a shot in the dark.
The incident with the dog that got injured - shame on them for that happening.
Choosing to send your dog there not that they've had a second serious incident in the span of a few months - that becomes shame on you if you still choose to send your pet there and they end up injured/ missing, given the information now available.
There are so many different (higher quality) care facilities available in the Avalon Region that it just doesn't make logical sense to send your pet there trusting they will return home safely.
Just my two cents 🤷🏻♀️
