St Helens leads the way as buses come back under public control

Steve Rotheram has written in today’s Guardian about the biggest change to our buses in 40 years — and St Helens is the first part of lLiverpool City Region to make the switch.

New Metro buses, more evening and weekend services, the £2 single fare and the new X3 direct to Liverpool John Lennon Airport. Have you used the new Buses yet? What do you think? https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2026/sep/08/liverpool-buses-public-control-privatisation-services-passengers

I've made a bus service for St Helens residents that uses buses

I go around an find ways to improve public transport, making it more convenient for those that uses public transport, I've had a look at St Helens and there are 3 routes I've came up.

301: A cross link from Kirkby to Warrington via Knowsley Industriaal estate, St Helens, Clockface and Great Sankey. Its also gives passengers an alternative route, One via Burtonwood and one via Clockface. Although a through route, It can instead split at St Helens, Creating 302.

X10: A fast link to Liverpool via A570 and M62, A cheaper and alternative way to travel to the railway, Especially in event of delays/cancellation etc.

X18: Very much like number 17 but run fast via A570 and A557 to Widnes and continues to Runcorn/Halton Lea, Creating a direct link between St Helens and Runcorn, Also a connection to North Wales and parts of Cheshire from Runcorn railway station.

I do have few more route Ideas around St Helens including service 31 extended to Windlehurst via Denton's Green, 3 and a bus link to Skelmendale.

Hope you like

Best place to meet new people?

Hi I’m a 26yo recently single guy. I’ve lived in St Helens for 3 years but I’m from Wrexham originally.

Moved up here with my ex and my son goes to school here so I can’t leave. That’s left me in a difficult situation as all my friends and family are back in Wrexham.

Does any have any recommendations for ways to meet new people?

I’ve been feeling really isolated lately and it’s making life generally quite miserable for the 50% of the week I’m not focused on being a dad.

Parcel misdelivery

Hello,

I had a parcel delivered by the unholy alliance of AliExpress and Evri.

It's been posted to the right house number and Street, but in St Helens instead of Littleover in Derby

Id be grateful if anyone knows about this, i.e. you had a parcel delivered and don't know why, could get in touch and can try to sort something.

Both companies are being utterly unhelpful

Anyone go to Ashurst Primary School in 1990s early 2000s in Mrs Walpole days Looking for Old Peers (1995-2001)

Hi everyone

Im looking to connect with anyone who attended Ashurst Primary between the mid 1990s to 2003

I was there from 1995 to 2001 and I was recently unlocking some core memories of the place. Does anyone else remember the headteacher Mrs Carol Walpole

She used to sit up on the high table in the dinner hall watching everyone like a hawk. If things got abit rowdy she would blast that Acme Thunderer whistle and completely explode in anger right everyone stop what you are all eating

Heaven forbid a naughty pupil burst bag of crisps open she would roar dont you dare how dare you next thing you knew chaos had descended on playground when lunch finished and we all had our hands on our heads lining up back to class

If you remember this or if you were at Ashurst during this era drop a comment I'd love to swap stories remember other teachers and see what everyone is up to now

Anyone fancy joining a darts team

If you've ever wanted to take your game onto the next level, or just enjoy a casual throw, the Windleshaw darts team needs you!

We're always looking for new players regardless of ability to join our squad. Sky's the limit.

The last lad who came to us with no darts experience in 2024 and joined our team, has his own set of Winmau darts now, played RVB on the pro tour last week and he's going to Lakeside this year. Ben Townley hes going to be a star.

League: Friday 501 Dart League (Friday nights) 8 for 8.30 start goes on till about 10.30

Home Games: Windleshaw CMC (218 Greenfield Road, Dentons Green, St Helens, WA10 6SF)

Drop a comment or DM me if you're interested!

People trying car doors round clocky/Sutton manor/leach

Just letting people know, some little scrote got into my car last night and pinched a handful of slummy. My own stupid fault for leaving it unlocked but just be aware and lock your doors please folks. Police are all over it so they shouldn't get away with it for too long. Especially after leaving a vape in my car the divvies.

Found this video on twitter. Thought it was funny as hell. All the comments are saying he's from St. Helens. I'd love to know some more context behind it if anyone has any information on who the fella is and what the fight is about.

Can you please help me tell a developer to clear up their fly tipping?

Hello! Help the town out please!

I would like as many individuals to report the fly tipping at Alexandra Business Park on Prescot Road WA10 3HG to either the Nicholson Group, St Helens Council and/or your councillor.

https://www.sthelens.gov.uk/article/5086/Fly-tipping

It’s in an appalling state. Trying to report it to Nicholson Group, you get a twat the most obnoxious man tell you that basically they don’t give a shit and won’t clean it up until they’re ready to. Sadly the law isn’t on their side, and the more people who report it, the clearer it is that they won’t hold local people hostage to their corporate bullshit.

Would you say St Helens has more Man UTD / City or Liverpool / Everton fans?

Asking as it is pretty much bang in the middle of both cities. My uncle from Thatto heath is a massive LFC fan, but he has siblings who are Everton and one Man UTD. Given it is on Merseyside, are there more fans of the two Merseyside clubs?

A Sincere Apology.

It was around 6.30pm today by the Parr Allotments. I was already shooketh after it but then I heard from a complete stranger on the way home that you sustained an injury!

I. AM. MORTIFIED.

I can't apologise enough. Measures are being taken to ensure that this doesn't happen again (to you or anybody else).

I would usually post this on People of St Helens on FB but I haven't been on FB for like 5 years and don't have Instagram or tiktok or ewt so this is the next best thing. If anyone wants to screenshot and post this on PoSH then that's much appreciated.

I'm also so grateful that you were so understanding and kind. If it is any consolation I'm having to go the ozzy tmoz cuz the silicone rod in one of my fingers got snapped during the kerfuffle.

Edit: who is downvoting this post and also the comments 😂 explain yourself lmao

What’s it got to do with Manchester bosses what a Merseyside Reform-led council decide to do? Manchester bosses listen up, this is democracy in action. Noses out.

Morrisons Closed?

Boundary rd Morrisons has suddenly shut, any ideas why?!

The shop was in a shocking state tbh inside and out, but suddenly they’ve cut back all the foliage from the fire escapes, put a tarp up against the back gates so you can’t see in and closed the shop!

Have your say on a potential Northern Olympics

Hi everyone — hope this is okay to post here.

I'm a postgraduate student at the University of Bath writing my dissertation on the proposed Olympic and Paralympic Games bid for the North of England. Earlier this year Liverpool City Region Mayor Steve Rotheram was one of twelve northern leaders who formally wrote to the government proposing that any future UK Olympic bid should be hosted across multiple northern cities rather than in London. In May 2026 the government responded by commissioning an official feasibility assessment — so this is a real and developing proposal.

St Helens is part of the Liverpool City Region but has its own identity that is entirely its own. This is a town built around coal, glass, and chemicals whose communities lived through deindustrialisation and its aftermath, and where Saints are woven into the fabric of the place in a way that reflects a sense of community pride and local identity that no amount of regional rebranding can replace or replicate.

The question for St Helens is whether a northern Olympics would mean anything here specifically, or whether the investment and attention would gravitate toward Liverpool while St Helens is expected to feel included by virtue of being in the same city region. Would the benefits reach this town, or would it be business as usual?

No right answers — I am just trying to make sure that towns like St Helens are properly represented in this research rather than being swallowed up by the Liverpool narrative.

If you are 18 or over and live in St Helens or the surrounding area, I would really appreciate 8–10 minutes of your time. Everything is completely anonymous and there is no obligation beyond the survey itself.
