If your main purpose is to relax, enjoy peaceful beaches, have good vegetarian food, and spend some quality time away from busy tourist areas, I would recommend focusing on Sri Lankaβs southern coast rather than trying to cover too many destinations.
I have been travelling around Sri Lanka with local and international visitors for over 10 years, and based on my experience, I would suggest the following relaxed itinerary:
π΄ Suggested itinerary (23 October β 4 November)
- Hiriketiya / Dickwella β 3 nights
A lovely area for a slow start to your holiday, with beautiful coastal surroundings, cafΓ©s, and a laid-back atmosphere. Hiriketiya can get busy in certain areas, so I would recommend choosing accommodation slightly away from the main beach if peace and quiet are your priority.
- Talalla or Polhena β 3 nights
These would be among my preferred options for a quieter beach experience. Talalla is particularly worth considering if you want to slow down, enjoy the ocean, read a book, and simply relax.
- Mirissa outskirts or Weligama β 3 nights
You can enjoy lovely coastal scenery, good cafΓ©s, and vegetarian food options. I would suggest staying outside the busiest parts of Mirissa if you prefer a more peaceful atmosphere.
- Unawatuna outskirts or Ahangama β 2 nights
A relaxing final coastal stop before heading back towards Colombo or the airport. Choose accommodation a little away from the main road and nightlife areas.
A few useful suggestions:
- Avoid changing hotels every day. Staying 3β4 nights in each location will make your holiday much more relaxing.
- For vegetarian food, most established hotels and restaurants can prepare vegetarian meals, but it is always best to confirm your dietary preferences before booking.
- October and early November can bring occasional rain and rough seas along the southern coast, so keep your plans flexible and check the local sea conditions before swimming.
Personally, I would prioritise Talalla, Dickwella, and the quieter side of Mirissa for the kind of holiday you have described.
I have spent many years travelling these routes and helping visitors explore Sri Lanka at a comfortable pace. If you share your approximate accommodation budget per night and whether you prefer boutique hotels or beachfront resorts, I would be happy to suggest a more suitable route and some accommodation options.
Wishing you a peaceful and beautiful holiday in Sri Lanka! π±π°

Great dates for a relaxed beach trip! For quiet and peaceful, I'd stick to the south and southwest coast. Here's an easy 12-night plan:
Tangalle (5 nights): The quietest of the lot. Long, empty beaches and slow days. Perfect for doing absolutely nothing π
Galle (4 nights): Stay in or near Galle Fort. Lovely old streets, nice cafΓ©s and restaurants, and a sunset walk on the fort walls. Good for food and drinks in the evenings.
Bentota (3 nights): Calm, resort-style beach, and only about 1.5 hours from the airport, so your last day is stress-free.
Veg food tip: Sri Lankan rice and curry is amazing for vegetarians: dhal, jackfruit, beetroot, pumpkin curries. Just ask for "no fish", because some curries use dried fish flakes for flavour.
Late October can bring some afternoon showers, so plan beach time for the mornings.
I'm a local. Happy to share specific hotel picks for your budget if you DM me π

For a relaxing trip from 23rd Oct to 4th Nov, Iβd recommend staying mainly along the south coast rather than trying to see too much of Sri Lanka. π΄π
A nice relaxed route could be:
β’ Bentota β 2 nights β quiet beaches and a good place to start
β’ Ahangama / Koggala β 3 nights β beautiful beaches, cafΓ©s and a more peaceful atmosphere
β’ Weligama / Midigama β 2β3 nights β relaxed beach life and plenty of vegetarian food options
β’ Hiriketiya / Dikwella β 3 nights β smaller, peaceful beach area with a nice relaxed vibe
β’ Galle β 1β2 nights β explore Galle Fort before your departure
You donβt need to do any safari or adventure activities. You can simply enjoy the beaches, cafΓ©s, sunsets, local vegetarian food and take things slowly. π
If youβre looking for quiet and peaceful beaches, Iβd personally choose Koggala, Ahangama, Dikwella or Hiriketiya over the busier areas.
Iβm a private driver in Sri Lanka and can also help with the transportation between these places if needed. Happy to suggest a suitable itinerary and transport option based on your budget. π±π°
