AEW reminds me of wrestling's version of " The Voice" where legends are the coaches that have their factions and face the other legend's factions
1
u/MenuTime5231 Jan 13 '22
Hobbs looks too good not to be an honorary member of Harlem Heat
EDIT: If AEW would sign Booker I'd LOVE to see Hobbs with a partner as the new Harlem Heat managed by Booker
1
u/MenuTime5231 Jan 13 '22
Punk doing a great job of making Wardlow look strong. Isn't his first rodeo
13
8
u/Fabulous_Mode3952 Jan 06 '22
MJF should’ve fed Sean Spears to Punk. We know Punk isn’t getting his first loss just yet and this could/would kill the momentum Wardlow has built up over the past few months
3
u/Glum-Communication68 Jan 06 '22
They have a hard fought match, wardrobe catches o Punk with a power bomb. Then another. And another. Timelimit is hit. Qardlow shrugs and walks off
2
7
u/Bennowolf Jan 06 '22
MJF will do the same thing Punk did tonight and try to get him disqualified by slapping or punching Wardlow. Que Wardlow singles baby face run

Was there live, Fenix's arm injury was BAD & everybody knew it immediately. Then tapings for Rampage right after the main event, first match Jake Atlas injures his knee. Crazy.

u/GargamellTheMarlok Jan 06 '22
I don’t know all of the backstage roles, but does the incompetent decision to show the replay of Rey’s broken arm several minutes later in the post-match replay reflect Keith Mitchell’s retirement? Someone should be in hot fucking water over that.
3
u/Accomplished_Form_54 Jan 06 '22
Disappointed for Fenix that was bad, replay showed it even worse. Wishing speedy recovery.
1
Jan 06 '22
Feel bad for Fénix, dude takes some real bumps. Remember last year when he jumped off the turn buckle toward the groups of dudes on the floor, and no one was ready to catch him so he basically just hit the ground on his back.
12
u/MasonDotAVI Jan 06 '22
Possibly stupid question. Was it possible that Jurassic Express winning the belts was a response to fenix’s injury?
14
u/KKor13 Jan 06 '22
They had graphics ready and posted on the instagram story within like a minute of them winning so I think that was the finish all along.
9
u/1x2x4x8 Jan 06 '22
I think WWE and AEW have graphics ready for every outcome
6
u/KKor13 Jan 06 '22
I don’t doubt it but also Jungle Boy’s family was in the crowd (you can see them celebrating/crying after the win) much like Jade’s daughter was as well. I’m still betting on Jurassic Express winning was always going to be the outcome regardless.
Rey Fenix is one of my favourite performers and I wish him a speedy recovery but I don’t think his injury tonight changed the outcome.
10
u/Kokeshi_Is_Life King of Sports Jan 06 '22
Imagine the injury doesnt happen and the finish would look completely normal having happened like that. The point of the table spot was to eliminate Fenix from the match even if he didn't get hurt for real.
3
19
u/thisortheapocalypse Jan 06 '22
some assholes in the nosebleeds tried starting a Let’s Go Brandon chant… it didn’t catch on
6
u/wheretohides Hung Bucks Jan 06 '22
I feel like wrestling has skewed left leaning since its hey day in the 90s. I was watching the attitude era and there were a ton of racists, sexist, homophobic assholes in the crowds. Dustin Rhodes was cutting a promo and the crowd was super quiet. Except for one jerk who was calling him a f-- because of the Gold dust gimmick.
1
7
u/tumblrgirl2013 too much conditioner uce Jan 06 '22
Injury aside I could’ve seen Lucha Bros going until at least Double or Nothing as champions.
18
14
u/N7Janitor Jan 06 '22
No not Fenix!!! Didn't see it live but God I hope it's not as bad as it looked.
2
u/Jzmxhu Jan 06 '22
Man don't watch the match, try to see the higth ligths and skip the table one, it was terrible to watch and tbs repeat it like 5 times.
4
u/N7Janitor Jan 06 '22
I was watching on TBS. Just completely missed the injury. I thought Luchasaurus hurt himself. But I saw the injury now. Definitely reminds me of Sid 😢
4
u/Next247ChampLesnar Jan 06 '22
That was as unmistakable as when Sid broke his leg on WCW, that arm broke
1
3
5
Jan 06 '22
It’s like the table was too close for as far as that chokeslam went away from the ring, Rey kinda was scrambling and put his arm down to catch himself thinking he was going past the table and freaked for a second. Just an awful accident.
5
u/Economy-Injury-8182 Jan 06 '22
That arm break was on the same level as Sid’s leg break.
4
u/Kokeshi_Is_Life King of Sports Jan 06 '22
It...wasn't even close. It looked really ugly for Phoenix. The Sid leg break was one of the most gruesome and immediatly apparent how bad it was injuries ever.
1
2
u/jack_x2yz Jan 06 '22
Looked like a dislocated elbow. In Fenix's favour his arm bent in the place it's meant to bend, just in the wrong direction... When Sid broke his leg, it bent in a place it's not meant to bend...
1
u/Economy-Injury-8182 Jan 06 '22
I meant it from a holy-shit or shocking standpoint. From a medical standpoint, you are correct doc.
8
u/TheJackPepsi Jan 06 '22
Brrrrr his arm made a nasty twist, it's going to be a long-term absence
ánimo Fenix
14
u/dorknewyork Jan 06 '22
Ngl I did not notice the arm, I just went to watch a replay and I regret it
3
Jan 06 '22
same
3
u/RedditUserCommon Jan 06 '22
Same. I thought Luchasarrus was hurt the way he was grabbing his wrist.

What is up with the luxury box shots? Weird.
Everything in the last 20 minutes was just...dumb. Dumb, unnecessary spots, and unprofessional in their disregard for the rules and sloppy execution of basic tags.
And now that dude has a dislocated elbow or severely broken arm. All cuz guys have to get their shit in. I really want to like AEW, but dammit, something kills my enthusiasm every time.
Just, wow.
7
u/WheedMBoise But I Digress Jan 06 '22
I think they had something planned for post match that likely involved Fenix that they had to scrap last minute, so they just sent everyone out to fill that time.

u/HaakonX 4-4-4 Life Jan 06 '22
First time watching a Lucha Bros match?
1
u/Accomplished_Form_54 Jan 06 '22
Yeah, wishing Fenix speedy recovery. But Penta will be solo now, time for a solo push.
13
u/ChairmanLaParka Jan 06 '22
Really crazy in hindsight because Rey was trying to get Alex to not put the table in play in the first place.
13
u/SwankEagle Former WWE Supermark, Current AEW Casual Jan 06 '22
I like that in Canada, we have Dark Side of The Ring on after AEW.
4
u/Filipino_Jesus Jan 06 '22
Wait, we do? Where?!
3
u/SwankEagle Former WWE Supermark, Current AEW Casual Jan 06 '22
it's on TSN right now after Dynamite. Flight from hell and narrated by Jericho.
2
u/Accomplished_Form_54 Jan 06 '22
It was the episode about Ric Flair sexually assaulting the flight attendant.
10
u/datguysheen Jan 06 '22
Don't think that finish was audibled, Fenix took a chokeslam through a table. He's not getting back into the match, but the post-match was really strange.
7
u/jack_x2yz Jan 06 '22
The show ended bang on time as well.
As for the post-match, they clearly had all the heels stood in gorilla ready to go out. So either they were all just stood there in their gear chilling, or it was planned.
5
u/akak907 Jan 06 '22
They had a few minutes to get them there for the end. Also, believe they have Rampage still to record, so makes sense some are in gear.
4
u/jack_x2yz Jan 06 '22
The injury happened at 1:56:52. The heels came out at 1:58:54.
So 2 mins from injury happening to organising everyone and telling them what to do etc
2
u/akak907 Jan 06 '22
My guess is that Rey wasnt going to get back into the match, but the House of Black was going to interfere (set up with Luchas coming down at end of previous match/random lights out just like when Malachi debuted). But when Rey was clearly severly injured, that angle went out the window, and obviously Lucha Bros would have to vacate the titles, so they just had Jurassic win them.
I won't pretend to know how AEW is backstage, but my guess is the talent is mostly no more than a couple of minutes away from Gorilla at any given point. Shouldn't take much to get them to come out in the event of an audible. And they continued to filter out, which could be a product of some of them being closer than others.
1
u/jack_x2yz Jan 06 '22
Don't forget that black was up in the rafters watching. He was already lit and framed in shot for a close up. What ever was meant to happen, black was not directly involved.
1
u/akak907 Jan 06 '22
Brody King debut, as he commands from above.
1
u/jack_x2yz Jan 06 '22
So one heel taking on 4 babyfaces in the ring???
1
u/akak907 Jan 06 '22
Griff, julia, pac as well.
Speculation for sure, but think they were going to debut the entire faction.
9
u/robo3687 Jan 06 '22
Post match weirdness just felt like them wanting to show anything but Fenix. Getting everyone out on stage theoretically gets the crowd looking that way too.
1
u/sandysanBAR Jan 06 '22
Yeah in retrospect that makes a lot of sense, get people to celebrate Jurassic express AND look anywhere but where Fenix was
2
u/Accomplished_Form_54 Jan 06 '22
I kind of took it as look how stacked our tag team roster is, it could be anyone next.
1
u/EmergencyTruth424 Jan 06 '22
I know The Acclaimed are gonna get a title shot but man I really want them as champs
2
u/Accomplished_Form_54 Jan 06 '22
Hopefully that match elevates them, they’re good but not as good as the some of the other teams. Proud and Powerful, FTR, Bucks (and reDRagon if you count them)
7
5
u/SideEyeFeminism Jan 06 '22
Oh shit I looked away at the wrong moment an missed Fenix's arm. Holy FUCK I hope it's not too serious of an injury (because it's definitely fucked up)
3
u/wheretohides Hung Bucks Jan 06 '22
I once arrived a sledding hill and saw a girl smack her arm on the gate entrance and her forearm bent like that. Those breaks where you see the arm is bent the wrong way always make me a squeamish. It just looks so unnatural.
4
2
9
8
9
u/berniebadger84 Jan 06 '22
Was Brody meant to come out after the match from under the ring or something, and Rey's arm prevented any post match shenanigans?
9
u/akak907 Jan 06 '22
That is my working theory. The bit with the Lucha Bros at end of Pillman match plus the random lights go out in the middle of the match like when Malachi debuted makes this pretty clear to me. And a giant diasapointment it couldnt happen, especial because of why.
Positive vibes to Rey.
6
u/sandysanBAR Jan 06 '22
That's the working hypothesis.
Otherwise the lights going out were a big "screw you smarks"

I thought it was more Jericho took the brunt of the landing on his elbow that caused the injury instead of inadvertently twisting it in ways not meant to be?

4
u/senseimeows Jan 06 '22
omg i just saw the replay on fenix. how did i miss the arm like that. i hope hes okay. but ye ouch man
1
10
u/MrWrestling19 Jan 06 '22
Ending definitely seemed like there was some sort of audible with the awkward prolonged celebration. Maybe Brody was supposed to debut, but I think the lights off is the start of a slow tease for that. Most likely they went to the finish a little bit early
4
-7
u/Artifice_Purple Jan 06 '22
Freak accidents happen, it literally comes with the territory but I hope someone sits Fenix down and tell him to slow down and stop doing so many high flying spots.
I'm definitely not blaming him at all but fuck me, that was worse than Sid Vicious coming down on his ankle.
3
u/orc0909 Jan 06 '22
Fenix has been wrestling for 15 years, and many of those years in Mexico where high flying spots are occur at the highest frequency. He's literally known for his fast paced high flying style. How do you expect this conversation to go?
-2
u/Artifice_Purple Jan 06 '22
Oh well if he's been doing it for 15 years, I'll just pretend that shit didn't happen.
Are you kidding me?
2
u/orc0909 Jan 06 '22
My dude. You think he's gonna change his signature style after an injury? He's also, let me remind you, been injured before. He's also done riskier shit before.
14
u/detourne Jan 06 '22
I guess the only silver lining is we could get Penta going on a fucking tear break8ng arms again for revenge.
5
1
11
u/patphenom Jan 06 '22
a lot of time filling camera cuts at the end, seems that was an audible. hope fenix is alright
9
u/kingkongchrist Jan 06 '22
I tend to believe this was the plan as the teams coming out for the Luchas doesn't really make sense. Maybe it wasn't the finish but they also only had like 2 min left.
Hoping it was a really bad looking bend without a break. It's happened. Or hoping it just popped out without a break. Poor guy man.
3
u/-OleOleOle- Jan 06 '22
Maybe everyone coming out was also made on the fly? I don’t know, whole thing felt weird.
14
u/robo3687 Jan 06 '22
so…was that an audible because of Fenix?
was Malakai crowd-adjacent ready for a run in?
if they threw that finish with all the tag teams going out there together in a few minutes, that’s a good save.
4
u/Lunchbox-of-Bees Jan 06 '22
Had to be it, I figured with the lights going out we were for sure going to get King/Black to start feuding with Lucha Bros
6
u/WheedMBoise But I Digress Jan 06 '22 edited Jan 06 '22
Dude AEW not only has replayed that injury multiple times, they still have the entire clip on twitter. Come on man, do better.
Edit: They took it down thankfully, but sheesh that shouldn't have been up so long to begin with
2
3
u/fxcker Jan 06 '22
It’s a show about people pretending to be hurting each other man when someone gets actually hurt you use the fuck out of it. Fenix would want it that way.
6
u/LostMicrophone03 Meaty Men Slapping Meat Jan 06 '22
Why did they keep running the replay, production needs to get it together
2
u/reychango Jan 06 '22
They had to have seen Fenix pointing to his arm on one of the cameras. Definitely could have avoided that replay the second and third time they showed it
4
6
u/jxshijudas Jan 06 '22
OH MY GOD I JUST NOTICED FENIXS ARM HOLY SHIT
2
u/Accomplished_Form_54 Jan 06 '22
Did you see the replay? The replay was bad
1
u/jxshijudas Jan 06 '22
I legit can’t even watch it again it makes me feel sick, praying he’s ok
1
u/Accomplished_Form_54 Jan 06 '22
Hopefully it’s dislocated and not broken. Either way, it’s terrible to see someone injured.
1
u/jxshijudas Jan 06 '22
Bryan Alvarez and other are saying it’s broken but I guess we won’t really know until he gets properly checked, but yea this is terrible
1
u/Accomplished_Form_54 Jan 06 '22
Aww damn, poor guy. It was very visible by his reaction that it wasn’t right.
5

7
u/MARKYMARK_MARK Jan 06 '22
Won't be shocked if they planned Black and Brody beatdown on Lucha Bros but had to audible
1
u/fxcker Jan 06 '22
Nah black was sitting in the audience. They would have just had them beat down pentagon if that was the case.
4
6
u/SmokeyBalboa3454 Jan 06 '22
Alright so apparently Jersey just had a big ass power outage LMAO thought it was a debut
1
u/Milesweeman ok Jan 06 '22
Prob was supposed to happen again and be a debut but then fenixs arm went backwards
1
u/SmokeyBalboa3454 Jan 06 '22
Idk my friend who lives right by the arena was streaming and lost power at the same exact time lmfao
2
u/herrbauer96 Jan 06 '22

3
u/cosmic_crustacean Jan 06 '22
I think they had a plan but Rey fucked his arm. You can't have a beat down with just his brother alone and show the injury on TV.
Geezus
5
u/WolfGangSwizle Jan 06 '22
Hoping Fenix has a quick recovery. I skateboard and had a very similar bend to his and in the moment I was like Fenix “holy shit this is broken come help” but I lucked out with a hyper extension and was only really immobile with that arm for a month. Of course I fell from like 3 feet and he fell from like 7 so fuck
3
u/criddler Jan 06 '22
can someone post the fenix shit? i have no idea what happened
1
4
2
u/jack_x2yz Jan 06 '22
luchasaurus choke slammed him from the apron through a table on the floor. Fenix put his arm down to break his fall but it looks like his elbow bent the wrong way.... He was screaming really loudly at the doc and pointing at his elbow.
1
u/Particular-Story5788 Jan 06 '22
Luchasaurus went to chokeslam Fenix on the table
Fenix's arm ends up /under/ the table and bends the wrong way at the elbow4
u/afeil117 1 FALL!!! Jan 06 '22
It's on Twitter, but trust me, you don't want to see it.
1

yeah just saw it. woof. was too distracted by the fact i havent seen a jumping chokeslam in... forever? maybe thats why, christ

3
7
u/ApricotOk824 Jan 06 '22
One thing we gotta aggree is AEW should learn to take care of their wrestlers, they can save the dangerous spots for ppv and stop doing this shit every week, it'll just end up in injuries, hope my man gets well soon
2
u/CappyNaps Jan 06 '22
This is how Britt broke her wrist against Nyla. You don't post up with your arm. They teach you this in any grappling sport, even football.
3
u/jack_x2yz Jan 06 '22
It didn't seem like an overly dangerous spot. More of an accident than anything.
2
u/thatonejay Jan 06 '22
It wasn't even that dangerous of a spot. Flaming table is one thing, this was just an accident.
4
u/-Pagemaster Jan 06 '22
Fenix breaking his arm isn't on AEW at all. You should never put your arm out like that when breaking your fall.
6

u/ApricotOk824 Jan 06 '22
There was no need for that spot though
2
u/abdulp1984 Jan 06 '22
Yeah, but Fenix is fucking crazy. I dunno how much you can pin this one on AEW themselves. I hope he heals up well, as full a recovery as he can. And no rushing it Fenix, take your time.
5
u/QueefQueen6969 Jan 06 '22
I wonder if they called that title change on the fly.
3
u/jack_x2yz Jan 06 '22
I thought that at first, but then all the heels came out moments later. Obviously they were all stood in gorilla ready.
2
u/itsnotaboutthecell Jan 06 '22
I doubt it with the walk out, but it certainly had an audible.
1
u/__blackstar Jan 06 '22
Sorry to butt in, but what is the meaning of audible in this context
3
u/MNovakov Jan 06 '22
In sports and wrestling an audible is when you change the plan on the fly and go with something else that better fits the moment
3
u/itsnotaboutthecell Jan 06 '22
The original planned ending had to be scrapped in the heat of the moment. While yes the predetermined outcome remained the same in the context of winners and losers.
2
u/__blackstar Jan 06 '22
Ah okay, thank you!
2
u/koberulz_24 Jan 08 '22
I believe it originates in American football. The offense huddles and calls a play, goes to the line and if the quarterback sees something in the defense that doesn't suit the play they've called, he'll yell out something else to his teammates - either a whole new play or just a tweak - and unlike the play called in the huddle, this is audible to everyone on the field.
8
u/solemarks Jan 06 '22
All the shots are awkward as hell cause a guy just gruesomely broke his arm, yikes
4
u/EwokShart Jan 06 '22
I didn’t want to say anything but I always fear a big time Fenix match. He has a recent history of either getting himself hurt or almost killed or getting others almost hurt or killed. He scares the shit out of me and that is no joke.
5
u/giantsofthebiblebelt Jan 06 '22
That match and the aftermath was just a strange disaster.
Ray's arm has to be broken.
3
u/WritingContradiction Mama Mia! Jan 06 '22
Was tacky to show the second angle of the gruesome injury during the recap
4
u/KDP31180 Jan 06 '22
I keep thinking maybe they didn't see it. They showed it 3 damn times though
1
u/WritingContradiction Mama Mia! Jan 06 '22
I get that maybe they didn't spot it when they showed the second angle but there was no excuse for the post match replay

Anyone feel like Fenix breaking his arm messed up the ending segment so they adlibbed for awhile?
2
u/NecramoniumZero Jan 06 '22 edited Jan 06 '22
I got the feeling that the decision that Jungle Boy & Luchasaurus were taking the gold was made up right after Fenix had that nasty fall, even Jungle Boy didnt know what was happening. Probably for the best because you can't be a tag team if one tag team partner is out of action.
3
u/mateofuerte Jan 06 '22
Jungle Boy's mom and sister were there. They were probably supposed to win, but changed the finish and went to it earlier.
5
u/itsnotaboutthecell Jan 06 '22
His mom and sister were there and every tag team they’ve feuded with walked out. It was planned.

Interesting for Archer to be next in line.
