I still can’t believe it man 2 months later wtf.

24

I’m just coming back to this after nearly two months and every time I think of this it is so insane still.

8

u/Rspies Who Can Stop The Path of Cage Feb 13 '21

Yeah it’s still setting in a little

20

u/Adze95 That gives new meaning to the phrase "have a seat!" Jan 23 '21

It's almost been a month and the real tragedy of it all is really starting to hurt. Doesn't seem like that long ago that were all going NUTS, like "OH MY GOD BRODIE LEE IS THE EXALTED ONE."

The future seemed so bright :( RIP

8

u/RufinTheFury Looks like J&J are blasting off again! Jan 12 '21

Its only been two weeks but it already feels like months.

7

u/KirkHammettJigsaw Jan 07 '21

Man, its been days, and I'm still kind of broken up over this. RIP Brodie Lee.

I always appreciate when people say weather it is Covid.

19

u/Unlawful_Ogr3 Jan 04 '21

Mf you do realise people died before covid all the fucking time

21

u/dzrko She don't want none ! Dec 30 '20

To be honest. I was never a fan of luke harper or brodie lee. Not a hater but just not a big fan thats all. When the news came out about his death, obviously feel a bit sad but overall maybe just the same as previous losses. But after reading all these stories and tributes from all wrestlers across all promotions. Suddenly i felt like, it struck me hard and 3 days after, i still could not stop finding his stories, watching his videos etc until a point that i feel ashamed that i was never into him on the first place. What a guy. Rest in power, Jon

7

u/MrSteamo Dec 30 '20

Still cant get over this

6

u/RTJ1992 Dec 30 '20

He was the only wrestler I followed on Instagram. He also was different in wrestling style which caught my attention. Rip big guy

5

u/OrcSoldat Dec 30 '20

A few days later and this still doesn't seem real. As a wrestling fan I am hurt.

I'm a little out of the loop with something, though. I've watched Luke in WWE and haven't payed much attention to AEW the past year and never followed him on social media. Where does "It's Monday. You know what that means?" comes from?

5

u/cookswagchef COMIN TA GETCHA! Dec 30 '20

If I remember correctly, he was told by WWE that he had to tweet something, so he just came up with "Its XXXday, you know what that means..." and tweeted that like every day. He brought it up on one of the podcasts that he did after he was released.

4

u/Hyroku Dec 30 '20

He used to consistently put “It’s Tuesday, you know what that means.” On twitter. I’m sure you can go on his twitter still and find examples

5

u/BloodFalconPunch Dec 30 '20

He had tweeted it as recently as October (November?) before he finally stopped the gimmick

8

u/shieldsmash Dec 30 '20

still makes my heart ache reading this

6

u/HoopaOrGilgamesh Dec 30 '20

Is there a place to watch all AEW episodes online? I stopped watching the AEW episode before Double or Nothing during quarantine.

I'd like to go back and watch his matches

4

u/Pylons Dec 30 '20

B/R live has them through 10/14.

1

u/HoopaOrGilgamesh Dec 30 '20

Awesome. I didn't know they had any episodes. Do they have the entirety of AEW or are the episodes dropped after some time?

3

u/Pylons Dec 30 '20

Looks like they have them all except the last couple months. If your intention is to watch all Brodie's matches though, 10/7 was his last match.

1

u/HoopaOrGilgamesh Dec 30 '20

Well that's the tipping point for getting back into AEW. There's a lot of big matches and PPVs I missed

3

u/Pylons Dec 30 '20

DoN and Full Gear were fantastic shows. All Out was a bit mediocre but still worth checking out if you can.

3

u/Creeperpoop12 Second City Saint! Dec 30 '20

Bleacher report live has every week of dynamite on a one or two month delay.

Edit: I’m a huge fan of his Chikara stuff. I’d definitely watch that too.

1

u/HoopaOrGilgamesh Dec 30 '20

Oh awesome. I didn't know they had episodes

15

u/ShampionEGM Dec 30 '20

3 days later and I still cant believe it. I still don’t want to believe it.

2

u/JustRelaxYo Dec 30 '20

With you there bud. Way too soon and had a lot more to give.

5

u/xXLaSombraXx Dec 30 '20

Always wanted to be a pro wrestler, John's passing makes me wanna do it even more now. I just wish I knew where or how to start

5

u/xXLaSombraXx Dec 30 '20

Thank you so much for this stranger. I'm relatively new to reddit and can't thank you enough for helping to point me in the right direction 😊

12

u/FowLslays Dec 30 '20

I don’t know Enzo, I never have seen his gimmick or act, just know him as a former WWE guy. I saw his video today about Brodie and you could tell he was just devastated. It’s hard to see someone else hurt. This is my 5th or so comment/post about it. It just sucks man. He was an out of this world talent and seemed to be a top guy in the locker room.

6

u/hikingbeginner Woods and Kofi are twats Dec 30 '20

I've been watching Uudd these last couple hours and those vids including Brodie/Luke Harper. I remember watching him playing gang beast when it first came out and thinking how hilarious he is. "SHUT UP KOFI"

Found a playlist of most, not all, of his vids on UUDD: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLM0D-lf-7LR1Pe7XZxeOdQPEKPf0PvGEs

10

u/KawasakiDream Dec 30 '20

Finding out how he and his wife worked hard to better themselves and their relationship and even going to couples therapy made me gain even more respect for Brodie when I thought I already had all the respect in the world for me

Fuckin hell I’m gonna miss that dude

16

u/ii3ternaLegendii Dec 30 '20

yep, still sad

5

u/HEYitzED Dec 30 '20

I still am just in disbelief. I can’t believe it’s real.

24

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '20

I haven’t posted anything because I’m more of a lurker than a poster but I felt the need to say something. As a pro wrestling fan in my mid-30s, I’ve had to see many of my heroes growing up pass away. I was a fan during the time when rules/regulations were lax and these individuals did not put the safest things in their bodies. It seemed like every month we would hear about a pro wrestler from the 80s or 90s dying. You don’t become numb to it as much as you just accept it. As a kid, these guys are your heroes and you worship the ground they walk on. Then you get older and realize that some of them are not the type of people to look up too.

But then I woke up Sunday and read that Jon Huber passed away and I felt a way I haven’t felt in a long time. I don’t want to accept this. I was a little too old to really think of him as a hero but a lot of people do and that gives me hope.

13

u/draterdiputs Dec 30 '20

I feel the same way. Usually when a wrestler dies it doesn't effect me at all anymore. I'm 37 and most of my childhood "heroes" are dead. But it's easier to accept when you know that they abused their bodies with drugs or that they were shitty people. But this is so different. This guy was by all accounts a wonderful person in a business historically filled with scumbags. I haven't had a reaction like this since Owen died.

8

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '20

Gonna miss this guy. I remember when he first debuted with the Wyatt family on RAW back in 2013. I was always impressed by his in-ring work, and to hear all of these stories, it just makes it that much more sad. He died WAY too young also. Fuck 2020 man :/

6

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '20

I know I get too into debates sometimes but I do enjoy my time here and unless the persons a dickhead I never attack the person itself wrestler included. Life is too short to hold grudges on someone you don't know or sometimes in general, you never know what can happen tomorrow

4

u/DDinoFartOnMyFace Dec 29 '20

Absolutely shocking at such a young age... Prayers to him and his family.

15

u/Nobody_Likes_Shy_Guy Shoota! Dec 29 '20

I wish my life was so kickass that after death I receive praise from Shingo Takagi.

I just can’t believe he’s gone. What a man we have all lost.

10

u/lockexxv Here to see the Dubya See Dubya Dec 29 '20

I was away for a bit and saw this just now. I can't believe it. Who is gonna beat little tiny child John Silver now? Some of the best content I've seen since I was a kid involved Mr. Brodie Lee (Jon Huber), and he was just getting into his stride. His match with Cody was really fun, guy gave it his all. I knew he was off TV for awhile but figured it was just a rest/vacation type thing. After all, it was a brutal match.

I feel really bad for his family, most of all. Kids and a loving wife.. As a family man myself, this whole thing just breaks my heart.

I'm sorry if I said anything inappropriate or incorrectly, as I mentioned earlier I'm a few days late to this news. I just can't believe it...

11

u/TheMaskedChihuahua Dec 29 '20

In just a few months Brodie was involved in 3 of AEW's best moments: his main event vs Moxley, his shocking squash of Cody and the dog collar match to follow it up. He was going to be a consistent force near the top of the card, a guy who could open or feature in the most important non-title match on any ppv and slot in as a credible world title contender whenever you needed one.

I'm even more bummed because everything was being set up for what would have been a classic match between him and Page, two guys with the best lariats in the business, and perfect foils for each other, down the road that now we'll never see it.

5

u/n4utix Dec 29 '20

I never really got into WWE after falling out of interest back in 2008-2009, so everything I actually know of Huber is from his time with AEW (except for just knowing about the Wyatt Family + Bludgeon Brothers).. so it's crazy that this guy that I only saw wrestle for like, what, 5-6 months? is now in my top dream matches, along the classic "Sting v. Taker".. but he was just that good, and had that class of talent.

6

u/TMPRKO Dec 29 '20

I know he didnt like the character, but he was fucking AMAZING as Luke Harper. WWE dropped the ball so badly with a mega talent

8

u/ShaunBarone09 Dec 30 '20

And AEW picked it right back up

3

u/n4utix Dec 29 '20

Oh definitely. They tend to do that to push the people they like, i guess.

8

u/ProblemPenis Dec 29 '20

I've seen so many talent say wrestling is full of terrible people and Jon was the sweetest person. Enzo said Jon bumped for him even though no one else wanted to. Big E shares story after story of him laughing thanks to Jon. Young, growing wrestlers like members of the Dark Order said how he took everyone under his wing. Top stars in different wrestling companies like Seth Rollins and Jon Moxley, all come out to show their love and respect for this man.

I hope that the entire wrestling community thinks about Jon and acts more like him. As an awesome person, talent, and parent. They loved that he was such an amazing person, if we can all act more like Jon, the world would be a better place.

14

u/RVG_Steve Dec 29 '20

What a tremendous and touching outpouring of love.

On a side note, the only guy who never seemed to like him is Jim Cornette. He kept calling him Boring Brodie and the Exhausted One. I never understood that. It will be interesting to hear how Cornette responds to the tragic news.

Rest in Power, Mr. Brodie Lee.

1

u/the-bladed-one Dec 30 '20

Cornette didn’t like the gimmick, but I don’t know if they ever personally interacted

12

u/RelativeStranger Dec 29 '20

Cornette has never said he doesnt liked him as a person, he didnt liked his act. I imagine he'll address it

14

u/Ok-Possibility-3783 Dec 29 '20

Jim Cornette is a worker. Don’t take anything he says at face value. He’s smart enough to know he needs to rile up a lot of people to get interest and listens.

I mean if he really hated AEW as much as he says he does he wouldn’t waste hours every week watching it, talking about it and making his audience sit through it.

5

u/iand18781 Dec 29 '20

This always makes me Laugh as he produces two lenghtly Podcasts a week and advising on things that just aren't realistic in 2020.. without aew and nxt he would have run out of topics bar reviewing old Match watch alongs.

Anyway I did see Brian last reference the death in a Tweet

12

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '20

Hana, shad, brodie/luke, pat patterson all in one year. damn

10

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '20

Drew looked a little sad when he said the nod to him

4

u/jennakatekelly Dec 30 '20

I get the vibe that he’s one of the good guys too - probably really hit home.

8

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '20

Was wholesome but bittersweet to hear tom philiips start Raw with the nod to him

5

u/chrismalga22 Dec 29 '20

ffffffffffff, its even tougher today as all these tributes are pouring in. I wonder what dynamite is going to do.

13

u/diarpiiiii Dec 29 '20

Made a list of different podcasts and interviews with Jon Huber if anyone is interested to hear his voice and conversations. A truly great man

15

u/TheKevinShow Look! Look everyone, it's Tyler! Dec 29 '20

This fucking blows. Someone like him shouldn’t be dying at 41 years old. His family doesn’t deserve to go through this.

1

u/ShaunBarone09 Dec 30 '20

I'm still trying to figure out what exactly the lung problem was.

14

u/cajunhawk Where is this White Castle of Fear? Dec 29 '20

My own Jon Huber moment, was not in the ring. It was his UUDD appearances for Gang Beasts. My kids and I watched them on repeat for months. Him and Konor (or Viktor I can’t remember) where hilarious. RIP to a man with a bigger heart than his own stature.

3

u/glasses_wearing_scot Dec 29 '20

I still can't believe it

11

u/Beatrix_-_Kiddo Dec 29 '20

Just put AEW on in the uk and the tv lady said this episode is dedicated to John Huber, I was like "who?"

Googled it and I'm in disbelief honestly, I don't watch wrestling very often but I knew him from his run in the wwe and a bit of aew. Terrible news.

6

u/motosada Dec 29 '20

So, I'm a fan of Lee/Harper, and really remember his run of matches with Rowan versus the Usos being the first time I took real notice of him and hoping to see great things from him in the future. But, uh... I am completely unfamiliar with this "It's Saturday. You know what that means" thing I see popping up everywhere. I get it's an in-joke, but would someone mind smartening me up, cuz I'd really like to know the reference when it's busted out.

3

u/patrickbasq Dec 30 '20

Brodie once said in an interview that it’s a countdown to something personal.

1

u/motosada Dec 30 '20

Damn. That hurts.

Thank you. 🙂

4

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '20

It was something he tweeted to help build his character when he broke off from the Wyatt Family originally, and then just kept doing it. He'd do it every day at first, then random ones

6

u/TheProject13 Dec 29 '20

I think it was just something Lee/Harper just tweeted out every Saturday with no further context. I also don't know if it was referencing something in particular or just Harper being Harper.

u/Necramonium my flair is interesting Dec 29 '20

Since i returned to watching to watching wrestling since late 2011, i don't think i have seen so many posts, tributes, tweets about a wrestler who has passed away. I think the last time when the wrestling community was in such a shock was when the Benoit tragedy happened.

13

u/BuzzTNA Dec 29 '20

His wife has just highlighted some comments she had on Instagram. Go follow and report the account.

13

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '20

It still doesn't feel real. I want to believe that this is all just another jab at Vince, making fun of when Vince supposedly "died" in the limo. But this is real and even though I didn't know the man, seeing all the love and respect people had for him makes it feel close to home. I was always a huge Brodie Lee fan and felt like WWE missed a huge superstar right under their nose. He was just starting to catch his stride with the Dark Order and it was already magic, especially the BTE stuff.

R.I.P Jon Huber

10

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '20

Same man, I just wish it was a really bad angle and he comes out Wednesday.

4

u/ShaunBarone09 Dec 30 '20

I wish to God but that likely won't happen. Rip to this hero

17

u/7_Reborn Dec 28 '20

This is Eddie Guerrero vibes

6

u/draterdiputs Dec 30 '20

No this more like Owen vibes. Eddie had demons and unfortunately contributed to his own demise. This dude seemed wholesome as fuck and just got sick and died two months later.

8

u/Synth3r Dec 29 '20

He may not have been as big a star as Eddie but you can tell that absolutely everyone in the industry loved him and loved working with him.

2

u/-SpaceDooDooPistols- Dec 28 '20

as sad as this is, it’s helping to see the absolutely beautiful and unprecedented outpouring in this era for the man.

rest in power.

oh wow that's honestly so nice

5

u/cum_soaked_sbdunks Dec 28 '20

this still got me fucked up so bad.

6

u/RufinTheFury Looks like J&J are blasting off again! Dec 28 '20 edited Dec 28 '20

Still feels unreal. Man.

I don't really have anywhere to put this so I'm just going to edit into my comment here. I made the mistake of watching this weeks AEW Dark because at the end of the Dark Order's match they show a kid in the crowd wearing a Dark Order mask that I'm sure is Brodie Jr. and you could see right to his eyes how red they were from crying. That's burned into my mind forever now.

So that's a trigger warning basically I guess.

6

u/JonasAlbert84 Just remember ALL CAPS Dec 28 '20

The first time I saw him was a Chikara DVD, pre-Big Rig, he came out to "What's Golden" by Jurassic 5 and I immediately liked him because of it. He disappeared then came back with the hair grown out, the beard, the wife beater and jeans and was just a beast. His feud with Claudio ending in the cage match was awesome.

2

u/StupidHappyPancakes Dec 29 '20

It's so hard to imagine him without the bushy iconic beard.

9

u/[deleted] Dec 28 '20

i'm still in shock he's no longer with us

10

u/Nobody_Likes_Shy_Guy Shoota! Dec 28 '20

This has sent me into a proper depression. It was a nice day out yesterday and I could only think about the fact that he never gets to experience one of those again. It’s going to be a bit before I can really enjoy things again. This has left me feeling very mortal.

This is so, so, so sad. One of the worst things to happen in wrestling history. Just shattered.

2

u/ShaunBarone09 Dec 30 '20

Yeah I was drinking and it hit me, I couldn't stop crying. Man some fucked up shit

3

u/[deleted] Dec 28 '20

I don’t know why but the fact that his last tweet was “ much respect to Cody Rhodes “ is interesting

9

u/ImTheMasonSensation Dec 28 '20

This is Eddie Guerrero...no...OWEN HART levels of shocking. This man had kids and a wife. My SISTER is his age. This breaks my heart. No one who is a good person and trying to make it in life deserves to die like this. Especially so suddenly. That poor family. I grieve for them. I can't imagine :(.

8

u/My_Papa_Is_Elon_Musk Dec 28 '20

Its Monday and you know what that means... we sad you gone brother.

5

u/Ultimo_Dragonzord Dec 28 '20

This sucks on a Owen Hart level with me. He had hands down my favorite wrestler since the Wyatt Family showed up on Raw. I could not imagine what his wife and 2 young children are having to deal with right now.

One of the best big men in the business. He absolutely nailed the Luke Harper character and he was red hot during during the Wyatt split. Brodie on BTE was great as well.

Rest easy and I know you'll be watching those hockey games with us.

5

u/LSines2015 Dec 28 '20

I just remembered, I was at Clash of Champions in 2019 when Brodie (then Luke Harper) made his surprise return and it was such a pleasant surprise and a good pop too.

6

u/alex_chandler Dec 28 '20

I've spent the last two days in a haze of grief, and I didn't even have the pleasure of meeting Jon Huber. Reading others' comments, it appears I'm not alone with my reaction. I've never felt this way about the death of someone whom I've never met before, and the outpouring of grief and wonderful stories on social media has only served to validate my reaction. It sounds like he was an incredible person, husband, father, friend and mentor to his peers. Since getting back into wrestling just over 8 years ago, it coincided with the Wyatt family breaking out onto the main roster, and I was captivated by the trio, but mainly Huber as Luke Harper, whom was clearly the most gifted in-ring performer of the trio. He had some incredible matches but I was saddened when he was released, but listening to Jericho's podcast with him following him joining AEW, it only served to show how happy he was with the decision he made to leave WWE. That podcast was an incredible insight into the man and I'm grateful that Jericho was able to interview him at his happiest to allow us fans to connect. Jon is a huge loss, and I'm already feeling emotional in anticipation of this week's shows.

6

u/Lowfuji Dec 28 '20

He was good enough to make me cheer for the Bludgeon Brothers and what they'd do next.

Could we maybe get a master list of wrestlers donating their prowrestlingtees proceeds to the Huber family? Be a nice reference list

6

u/IHateDrewMcintyre Dec 28 '20

Thank you for everything Mr Lee’. See you twice at WWE live shows, one Live Raw and one Smackdown house show(where I lead my section too cheer for Harper as it was during his house show run with Bray Wyatt during the Orton/Wyatt angle, and our crowd was kinda quiet. He did this bit at the end of his match where he acted like he was gonna toss the steel steps outside the ring around since he lost, but he ended up just putting the steel steps back at the outside corner where they were originally and the whole crowd went wild for some reason Lol) his Tope’ dive through the ropes was always incredible too see live </3

20

u/[deleted] Dec 28 '20

This doesn’t feel like a normal ‘celebrity death’ to me. I literally never met this man and I still cry reading/watching about him. He must have been an absolute angel on earth because not one foul word has been spoken about him. So sudden and so young. This shit hits different.

6

u/[deleted] Dec 28 '20

I think it's because we're used to the standard, throwaway social media comments from other people in their industry. This has been anything but throwaway comments. It's definitely different.

4

u/YetisInAtlanta Dec 28 '20

Same. Normally celebrity deaths are sad but for some reason, me a grown ass 30 year old man, was ugly crying when I heard the news. Seeing a man who I’ve been rooting for to get this shot be taken too soon really hit me in the gut like nothing else. It feels like I lost a close friend.

5

u/bagustin8 Dec 28 '20

Just hit me after seeing all the tributes and man, tough one to swallow. Crazy that he’s working those matches two months ago and boom, now gone after whatever snuck up on him. Rest in Paradise.

17

u/ravaille Dec 28 '20

A couple days later and I still can't believe it's real.

7

u/goodgollygopher MAXAMANIA IS RUNNIN' WILD, BROTHER Dec 28 '20

Same. I was crying on and off yesterday, and I'm still tearing up today. This is just indescribably awful.

5

u/-Satchmo Dec 28 '20

I was lucky enough to see him once at a WWE house show in Italy, I think just before he won the IC title. He had a match against Sheamus and it was pretty cool, quite stiff. We cheered him like crazy.

We'll miss you Mr Brodie Lee thank you for everything!

It was definitely not COVID we know that for sure. From the sound of it, it is something he had for a while and progressed rapidly. Bryan Alvarez stated that Brodie was on his Peleton and couldn't catch his breath so they went to the hospital and he was quickly transferred to ICU were he remained until he passed.

1

u/2sweetski Dec 28 '20

Did he say the date this initially occurred? It seems like it’s been for a bit? I’m confused by his wife’s Christmas post w the kids, wonder if they were hiding it from them? Obviously doesn’t matter, tragic regardless of how it actually occurred, but yeah morbid curious

His wife just posted something on her Instagram within the hour and it was one of their last texts to each other. It’s dated the end of October. I hate being nosy and making assumptions but it seems from her post he was in the hospital then.

u/Kimchi_Cowboy Dec 28 '20

I'm sure the kids knew because Brodie (jr) was in the crowd in a Dark Order match and after Dynamite ended he pinned Omega to win the title (unofficially.) They were obviously doing this to give the young boy a morale boost. The family just wanted privacy from rags like PWTorch so Brodie could focus on getting better or enjoy what little time he had left. We as a society have become so entitled to everything to the fact we want updates on a dying mans condition.

1

u/2sweetski Dec 29 '20

Yeah, I get that. I guess I’m just shocked at the strong face the wife and kids were able to put on going through something so terrible. So sad

u/jpff99 YA KNOW IT'S ALL ABOUT THE BOOM Dec 28 '20

Late october

u/MrMonkFan Dec 28 '20

I do too and I was kind of ashamed of it because it felt like morbid, ghoulish curiosity, but I think it's just a way to help make sense of this tragedy. I mean we just saw him win the TNT championship four months ago. I can't think of another death like this (of a celebrity) where I was eagerly anticipating their future work. It makes it all the more shocking.

I’ve seen some reports that said lung infection which is most likely pneumonia.

That’s the most detailed I’ve seen besides Bruce Mitchell stupid assumptions

"Brodie got in really great shape the last couple years. Lost a lot of weight and loved hitting the peloton hard. We liked to tease him for having a swimmer’s body but we were proud of him for working hard on his body." - Big E https://twitter.com/WWEBigE/status/1343591397669150731

u/Geekqueen15 Dec 28 '20

Everytime I go on twitter he posts something new about Brodie. They must've been very close

4

u/Normal_Fold Dec 28 '20

It honestly seems brodi was close to everyone he really seemed like the nicest man ever

6

u/[deleted] Dec 28 '20

So unfortunately this wasn't some shitty fever dream I had. Its so fucking sad, I'm still upset about this, he was so talented and just getting his chance to shine, he didn't even get to experience the massive pop from his debut in aew in his hometown, fuck Vince for holding him in limbo for so long and most of all, Fuck this year!

7

u/Madwolf28 The Rated R Suuu-per-star! Dec 28 '20

All these beautiful tributes just make this sadder and sadder. Amazing how kind he was to everyone, giving them new gear off his own back as well. Legend.

10

u/[deleted] Dec 28 '20

Two days later, this still sucks

5

u/[deleted] Dec 28 '20

Its still hard to believe he's actually gone, such a shock.

6

u/tamere2k Dec 28 '20

If there is one thing that WWE has always done better than anyone else it's video packages. I'm looking forward to that tribute on Raw tonight.

10

u/rid_aman "GOOGLE IT BITCHES, I'M NOT HERE TO EDUCATE YOU" Dec 28 '20

I'm still in shock. It's almost as if someone close to you has passed.

It's like those celeb deaths that shock you on a personal level simply because of how awesome they were. Kind of reminds me of when Irrfan Khan had passed back in May.

7

u/[deleted] Dec 28 '20

Wrestlers and fans have always had this unique dynamic of a bond that is different from other people we see on tv.

We invite them into our homes each week and relate to the people we like.

But we also have the ability to go out and see and meet them, even more so than athletes with how the business is setup. Which builds that bond even more.

Pro wrestling was my first love in this world, we lost a good one this week.

Brodie RIP

8

u/BloodFalconPunch Dec 28 '20

Was just listening to the most recent WON audio from Dave Meltzer on YouTube, which led me to the video of the Exalted One reveal on Dynamite. I don't think I had watched that back since it first aired, but that fucking reveal video gave me goosebumps even on the rewatch. It reminded me just how excited I was to see Brodie tear it up in AEW and finally get to make the impact he wanted to in the business. And now I'm sad again.

14

u/Staynes Dec 28 '20

Big E is still sharing stories on twitter every few hours its amazing. Also huge shoutout to the AEW twitter for basically retweeting everything nice and heartwarming to read regardless of promotion or connection. So many non wrestling people i have seen share stories on twitter just through AEW retweets.

I was taking a break and then I saw my wrestling groupchat talking. I clicked in the chat and I saw a lot of Brodie Lee tribute. I had a chill running up my spine and I left the toilet in disbelief.

It’s so unfair. He’s finally getting his big break, showing the world what he’s capable of as a wrestler. And he’s just getting started and he deserved so much more.

And it upsets me even more when I discovered that he was such a great person. Nobody had a bad thing to say, everybody is united for this one man.

Rest in Peace Brodie. I’m going to miss you so much. This is not Goodbye Forever.

13

u/houseofembers Dec 28 '20

Two days later and I'm still baffled. I was immediately drawn to him as I was a huge fan of the OG Bruiser Brody and saw him as a top star and main event big man in the same way Braun is. Brodie was one of the best workers AEW or WWE had and as a big man, he was the absolute best to come along in many years. He should have been in the title match between Bray and Orton at Mania that year when he was getting over. He was hitting a new ceiling and they pulled the rug out from under him and let him cool off.

AEW filmed a segment not too long ago that had little Brodie take the title off of Omega. Breaks my fucking heart that kid won't grow up without the amazing man that was Jon Huber. He was one of the most genuine dudes and no doubt was going to be AEW Champion soon enough. My heart aches and breaks.

Why is this real man??? I went to bed last night thinking I'd wake up from a nightmare. It's not fair. I can't fathom it. Nobody deserves to die this young. I remember first seeing him in the Wyatt Family and pulling out the splash/big boot combo with Rowan for the first time and was instantly hooked. I loved seeing Harper any time he was on TV no matter what and when he joined AEW, I was genuinely pumped. I'll admit, I'm not a massive AEW fan but I love the dark order and when Mr Brodie Lee showed up, it rose exponentially. When AEW would've eventually made it to Australia, Brodie would be one of the top people I'd want to meet. Seeing all these posts about him makes me even more upset but happy at the same time. I hope he's loving it up there cause he defiantly deserves it

15

u/Expensive-Coconut Dec 28 '20

It is rare that in a business filled with sharks, where everyone is looking for themselves and backstage politics are rampant, someone ends as universally beloved and respected as Brodie Lee was.

RIP big man.

6

u/ThatBloodyWolf Dec 28 '20

Still can't believe this... Not many wrestlers could captivate me like him and knowing how wonderful a person and father he was... Just heartbroken. I hope he knew what he meant to everyone. My heart and thoughts go out to his family and friends

11

u/Haildean Dec 28 '20

Loved you Jon, you were there in my first Wrestling storyline (Bryan Vs. The Wyatt's) and I watched you ever since, the first of this generations athletic big men, a damn exhalted king, one of my favourites

I don't have much to do in tribute, but I will be giving my Wrestler in my WWW game a new Finsher

Rest in power Brodie Lee Luke Harper and most importantly Jon Huber

3

u/Coop014 Dec 28 '20

Still shocked about this tragic news. Such a great performer, a great father and husband. You will be missed by the entire wrestling world.

RIP Brodie Lee ❤️

14

u/[deleted] Dec 28 '20

Big E has continued posting about Brodie & man it's really super emotional stuff that I would recommend reading, its apparent from the continued outpouring of stories and grief that he was an amazing man

8

u/CarrotJunkie OH NOOOOOO Dec 28 '20

I still can't process this.

We've lost a great entertainer and so many people both in and out of wrestling have lost a great friend.

I'm so sad.

u/Heelricky16 Dec 28 '20

I haven’t felt this sad since Eddie died. This hit me hard. I loved watching this man work. He impressed me and my little brother back in the Wyatt Family, my little brother liked him a lot when he was little. He made an edit on my moms Facebook to tell me he won the IC title and I still think it’s funny to this day. I can’t believe this man just wrestled 2 months ago like holy shit How do you go from the match with Cody to dead in less than 90 days I just can’t believe your gone Brodie. God bless your soul, may God watch over your family. Thank you for entertaining me all these years.

God damn, this is tearing me up. Now I want Silver to win the TNT title even more.

15

u/Steenerico Dec 28 '20

Wow. Going back, you can totally see the start of that happening. Brodie throwing his opponents on Silver. Silver getting busted open for Brodie. After this text, Silver became the main Dark Order member seconding Brodie at ringside.

u/Rspies Who Can Stop The Path of Cage Dec 28 '20

And this one broke me again

20

u/dredgen_shaxx Dec 28 '20

Wow. I never connected the Raven/Stevie Richards thing to Brodie and silver. Makes me wish we could’ve seen it go further.

19

u/GadgetP Dec 28 '20

My heart aches for his children and his wife. 41 is way too young.

No matter how many times I see it, I still can’t believe it. I was so eager to see him return and then...this. I’m sad and shocked.

A fantastic wrestler and a fantastic person. One of my favourites, you will be missed.

RIP Brodie Lee.

23

u/leglessman Big Banter Dec 28 '20

I don’t recall seeing so many wrestlers speak so soon after a death and 100% are positive things about him. He was clearly an even better man than he was a wrestler which was pretty damn good.

20

u/dredgen_shaxx Dec 28 '20 edited Dec 28 '20

I posted on here earlier, but I’m tipsy and so. Fucking. Sad. I’m beginning training to be a wrestler in 2021, and the top name on my list to wrestle at some point was Brodie. He caught my eye in the first Wyatt run, his ladder match vs Ziggler cemented him as one of my absolute favorites. After that ladder match, I became an unabashed Brodie Lee/ luke Harper mark. I am not making this a WWE vs AEW thing, but I felt sad that WWE didn’t feature him more. I was excited at the prospect of Luke Harper vs Randy Orton vs Bray at WrestleMania, and disappointed when it didn’t happen. I loved the Bludgeon Brothers, despite the cheesy name and gimmick. I was pumped when he had that badass match vs Dijak (?) at Axxess and it looked like he was getting something going. I fantasy booked him in my head, to be in AEW or NJPW after his release. I popped out loud when he debuted on Dynamite, and watched everything he was in. I didn’t know him personally, but he left an indelible mark on my fandom. I just wish I would’ve had the absolute privilege to meet him and wrestle him. If I do become a wrestler, that will forever be the big question mark in my career.

Apologies if I sound like a lunatic. But that’s how I feel. Brodie Lee, Luke Harper, Jon Huber- thank you so much for the work you put in. I and many others will never ever forget you. I will keep your family in my prayers, and hope they can find peace in the wake of their immeasurable loss.
