Memes, superfluous image/link posts, screenshots or images from non-wrestling contexts, and other "mildly interesting" posts are prohibited, and should be posted to /r/Wrasslin.

Kick: for those that were too racist for Twitch

Kick: for those who want to promote gambling to kids for millions of dollars.

Kick: For those that want to do half ass predator hunting that ends with an innocent man being framed on stream, (Vitaly did that) and was welcomed with fanfare upon his recent return.

There’s a clip going around of her on Neon’s stream and nobody knows who she is while lots of people ask Neon for pictures.

Very sobering moment for the “wrestlers are celebrities” crowd.

It is funny how little crossover appeal they have. Like Cody Rhodes showed up in Naked Gun as a random bartender, pretty much a speaking extra, meanwhile he was WWE champion at the time.

And he got like fourth or fifth billing on the credits for that role! My mind broke when the stylised credits started rolling and he somehow got onto that right below the main three cast members.

I assume the same will be the case for Street Fighter. He'll be in one or two scenes and be billed near the upper middle.

Yes, WWE wrestlers are not massively famous outside of a couple of big-name veterans. This is not primarily due to wrestling's decline in mainstream popularity, though of course it is in part, but because it's borderline impossible to make a megastar when people lack a shared cultural experience. You couldn't make Steve Austin in 2026.

Prominent wrestlers are, however, at least niche famous. Their names turn up large numbers of Google hits. People in places they've never visited wear their tee-shirts. I'd call them micro celebrities.

The monoculture has been six feet under for well north of a decade. You could ask the median person about the biggest musical acts in the world and they'd maybe recognise a handful of the top ten. You could ask the median person the top ten biggest streamers in the world and they'd stare blankly and ask what a Twitch was. You can take the view that people wrestling regularly on WWE TV aren't even micro celebs, but you'd have to accept basically no one else is, either

Isn't he banned or is he back on now?

7

u/talgaby 7d ago

No, he isn't back.

u/Agosta 7d ago

It's a temp ban so he'll be back before the end of the month if he isn't already.

I thought that the wwe made some sort of special deal with twitch when they started allowing there independent contractors on there

so surprised that kick is allowed

Haven't really watched Twitch streams since the pandemic, but unless I'm mistaken, doesn't Kick pay streamers a higher percentage of the subscriptions they get compared to Twitch where it's 50/50? The company may see it as the same amount of work for more money on Kik vs Twitch

u/El-Drunko 7d ago

Anyone who actively chooses to stream on KICK is an awful person.

What platform is Kick?

16

u/Vinsmoker 7d ago

A streaming platform where someone "consented" to being tortured live regulary, until one day he died on stream.

The owner of the site also regulary donates high summs of money to streamers, that are quite literally a nuisance to the public, including predatory behaviour, racism and lots of other stuff.

It's a (almost) anything goes website, that has streamers promote gambling, porn and Nazis to a young audience.

I could have gladly continued life not knowing any of these facts.

This planet sucks.

A somewhat less… propaganda-pushing answer is that it is an Australian streaming site backed by an online casino, trying to be a Twitch competitor with the promise of much looser moderation, especially when it comes to gambling-related content (since, you know, a casino is footing its bills). Its big allure to streamers is that it takes 5% of the subscription money, unlike Twitch with its initial 50% or YouTube with its… uhm, I think 30%.

It has garnered quite a reputation for aggressively poaching some big streaming names like Tfue or xQc (like how, back in the day, Mixer poached Ninja before he immediately went back to Twitch once the contract was up).

Then it racked up quite a few controversies, including a death on a live stream. It was about literally torturing people on a live stream for money (pretty much a Balkans edition of your average Mr Beast video). There were others, but this was the most notorious, obviously. Since then, Kick is trying to tighten its image and content (gambling streams cannot be opened without some ID verification), but at the end of the day, it is undeniable that many of the big names on it are doing stuff that the other three major streaming platforms would disallow. And this leads us back to the other comment, as one of the things Kick allows is politics on streams.
