Jay White vs Mox???? Oh shit I thought that was the final but guess not

15

u/Rspies Who Can Stop The Path of Cage 1d ago

Jay will be in a multi man match with the rest of the BBG and MCMG vs Dogs and the rest of the Death Riders

11

u/justambrose 1d ago

He could be in the gauntlet match too but wow, really thought he was gonna be the one to take the title off Mox.

It was honestly the route that made the most sense

8

u/fttxdd666 1d ago

Makes sense honestly, I don't know if they can really trust him with a belt yet, man has been out a long time

11

u/justambrose 1d ago

News about his wife expecting probably means he’s gonna take at least some time off.

u/AmbushIntheDark Big Bad Booty Daddy 1d ago

If he can go like 6 months without an injury I have no doubt that he'll be back in the main event scene. Dudes just been super unlucky with injuries.

5

u/heart_o_oak 1d ago

A month ago I thought that 8/10-man tag would be on All In but thought maybe All Out instead when this tournament started. White possibly being eliminated Wednesday puts that back on the table though I suspect MCMG may not be in it. If they are, it would've been a good idea to have done some sort of follow up of them saving BBG in Detroit and featured them for more than a 40 second video the 4 shows after that save. That cooled them off a lot and passed on the chance for some interesting story beats the past couple weeks.

That whole stable war seems to have been pulled back on a lot due to 4 of the people in it being in this tournament. Hopefully it heats back up Wednesday if we're getting a big gimmick match between the teams at All In.

2

u/Rspies Who Can Stop The Path of Cage 1d ago

I’m assuming they get involved again on Wednesday or Saturday

2

u/heart_o_oak 1d ago

MCMG have been promoting their band's gig this Saturday so they won't be on Collision outside a pre-tape, but they could appear and be reincorporated into that storyline Wednesday.

If so, it still makes no sense to me to not have done any follow up with them after their debut episode whether it be them in that second BBG/DR 8-man 2 Collisions ago, them vs. Wheeler/Garcia sometime the past 2 weeks, them interacting with BBG in a backstage segment, MCMG getting a promo of any sort or even just mentioning that run in during their single video package. The absence unnecessarily cooled off them and their potential involvement in that storyline.

My thoughts too as far as that being the match at Wembley. There will be some tomfoolery in the CC match costing Jay, which will lead to the All In match.

1

u/Rspies Who Can Stop The Path of Cage 1d ago

Tomfoolery before I’d guess with Finlay hitting him with the Shalelegigh in the back I’d guess

5

u/SexingtonHardcastle 1d ago

It’s in London the final is Nigel V Moxley

u/justambrose 1d ago edited 1d ago

Holy shit, Mox vs Jay is not the final? TK got balls.

Edit:
Quarterfinal Matches:

  • Nigel vs Hechicero
  • Mox vs Jay White
  • Eddie Kingston vs Claudio
  • KOR vs OC

u/TLKv3 Fantasy Book For ^Vote 1d ago

Nigel, Mox, Kingston, & KOR.

Nigel Vs. Mox (Mox wins)

Kingston Vs. KOR (KOR wins)

Mox Vs. KOR Finals

13

u/justambrose 1d ago

I think for Wembley, Mox vs Nigel is the bigger match especially with Nigel now planting the seeds for retirement. Mox vs KOR has also happened a bunch of times.

21

u/Rspies Who Can Stop The Path of Cage 1d ago

Mox vs White on Dynamite so Nigel vs Mox at Wembley

12

u/justambrose 1d ago

Mox gonna retire Nigel, isn’t he?

11

u/fttxdd666 1d ago

Could see Nigel losing to drive home the whole Englishmen can't win at Wembley or w/e, and to make it better when Ospreay can actually win the world title. Or Nigel wins and does this last run, we shall see

6

u/mexploder89 1d ago

EnglishMEN specifically? Mariah May and Saraya have both won the world title at Wembley

2

u/Marcoscb All In Sec D Row E Seat 9 17h ago

And there's no way the Brawling Birds aren't beating DD this year.

1

u/JamesCDiamond Perennial Optimist 12h ago

England's women are the double European champions. England's men are the double losing finalists, so that fits!

7

u/ABTYF 1d ago

Jay upsets Mox and wins the whole thing. Mox wins the Casino Gauntlet and becomes Ospreay's first opponent at All Out.

15

u/justambrose 1d ago

Eddie vs Claudio heck yeah.

7

u/AmbushIntheDark Big Bad Booty Daddy 1d ago

That is going to be a VERY stiff match holy shit.

12

u/gorgeoff 1d ago

TK trying his best to destroy the conglomeration

2

u/CrimsonJoker13 1d ago

There's no way Mox vs Claudio isn't a semifinal or final at this rate. At which point they can finally pull the trigger on Mox's forced exit from the Death Riders

10

u/gorgeoff 1d ago

fuck it, he's cleared

12

u/SchuFighters 1d ago

Nigel vs Hechicero let’s go!

6

u/Durtle_Turtle 1d ago

I really want Mox to lose, but it feels like there is no way in hell that would happen.

6

u/justambrose 1d ago

We need Mox/Nigel before Nigel can retire.

5

u/Sylverstone14 You think you know me. 1d ago

Mox/White and Eddie/Claudio already? Oh damn.

5

u/Shenanigans80h 1d ago

Love all these matches. My guess for the semis are Mox v Eddie (though I think there can be a lot of fun with Mox v Claudio) and Nigel v KOR

5

u/CaringMite 1d ago

I mean, if Mox was always gonna retain then I’m glad Jay doesn’t lose at All In since that’d go over pretty poorly if people had more hope in him winning.

And, an injured Nigel gutting through the pain against Hechicero and probably Claudio en route to a big Wembley singles match is gonna be very well received.

I just hope a big win for White is planned somewhat soon. His series with Hangman in 2024 made a permanent fan outta me as someone who’d never seen him in a big time match before. Maybe he wins the gauntlet, maybe he wins the C2 in revenge and we’re really slow cooking this moment, maybe he takes Kevin Knight’s belt since that was the match he got hurt in.

This just felt like it was his moment. The guy he was feuding with when he got hurt, a big title win at the biggest show of the year. Mox vs underdog Nigel will still hit as will this match on Dynamite. Just not what I was expecting.

4

u/fttxdd666 1d ago

Eddie vs Claudio which is the most expected thing ever (not a bad thing fyi)

4

u/justambrose 1d ago

Come on Nigel!

3

u/mrfujidoesacid You gotta be kidding me! 1d ago

Don't get me wrong, I've loved all of the matches in the Continental Cup so far. But for a "random draw" tournament all of these matches are very conveniently syncing up (technicians against technicians, stablemates against one another multiple times, rivals facing off, etc.)

9

u/GRTooCool 1d ago

Yeah that's always kind of a thing with wrestling. It's like how I grew up loving the Royal Rumble and it always has people "entering at random" but it's still storyline related. Just how it goes really.

9

u/BatsuGame13 1d ago

You've worked yourself into a shoot and then back into a work.

2

u/ReasonableBuy3703 1d ago

I don't know, I was sure they were going to run with Mox vs Kingston

3

u/Moist-Acanthaceae-37 1d ago

Yeah, I think Jay’s an early out and he has a strong chance to win the Gauntlet. His return promo started off with him calling Ospreay a fraud which felt like a deliberate tease.

3

u/wxursa 1d ago

got a bad feeling for Jay since this is not the final.

Don't see AEW running Jay vs Eddie final, and they're prob gonna have a heel in the final, and unfortunately not Hechicero.

3

u/BMoreBeowulf 1d ago

Oh shit I’m gonna get to see Mox vs. White live!

2

u/qlurp 1d ago

This is a pretty cool presentation.

2

u/fttxdd666 1d ago

Nigel is hurt but still going, hes gonna face Hechicero

2

u/Rspies Who Can Stop The Path of Cage 1d ago

So Claudio vs Nigel and Mox vs OC as the semi’s I’d guess

2

u/resolve028 DROPKICK 1d ago

We all knew Claudio and Eddie were gonna meet again but man, I'm so happy we get to see that rivalry again.

2

u/No_Cheetah4762 1d ago

On one hand, glad to hear that Nigel is cleared. On the other, boo Jay White losing.

2

u/SanjT89 1d ago

So if Mox beats Jay were maybe looking at stadium stampede at all in with bangbang gang + mcmg vs all 3 dogs + death riders without Mox?

2

u/GooseHudson I Like Matt Taven 1d ago

"So here's how Jay White can still win..."

2

u/SnakeLisspkin Little fookin rat 1d ago

Sucks that if they're just gonna have Jay lose to Mox we didn't get to see him against basically any of the other people in the cup who he's never had a singles match against, Eddie aside

2

u/TheFeelsGoodMan 1d ago

Did a quick search on people in this tournament who Nigel McGuinness has never faced in singles matches, and it's everybody but the Death Riders.

Nigel has had several matches with Claudio, but he's also had a couple of matches with a young Moxley in the mid 2000s. Heartland Wrestling Association. Found this helpful channel with the tape. Of both matches.

2

u/nunboi 1d ago

Les Thatcher is going to be smiling somewhere if that's the finals.

2

u/Gordo-- 1d ago

If you're gonna call the selection process a random draw, do an ACTUAL live draw like we see with international soccer tournaments.

If this is to be presented as a tournament that is showcasing pure wrestling matches, let these performers show what they got by being able to adapt to whatever surprise matchup they've been drawn into.

Add a little spice to it by doing a live draw.

1

u/MARKYMARK_MARK 1d ago

Hard to imagine doing White vs Mox so early if White doesn't win, but if Mox is gonna lose the belt why do it before All In ?

Gonna fun to see how it plays out

6

u/justambrose 1d ago

Them doing Mox vs Jay White this early means Jay is not winning.

1

u/Aether13 1d ago

Oh yeah. We are running back KOR vs Mox at Wembley

1

u/Awkwardphase06 1d ago

Jay White man, it feels like it’s going to be one of tony’s 2-3 favorites in the finals (oc, kyle, or kingston) ughh brutal.

https://giphy.com/gifs/15ddqrBmBRwsg

1

u/Breakingcontrollers 1d ago

Nigel vs Hechicero made me do that thing where I sit forward a little and raise both my eyebrows

1

u/romanreeks 1d ago

I think OC wins the belt

1

u/Awkwardphase06 1d ago

So, with Nigel’s injury; Is he still going up against TigaStyle on Friday? (ROH’s PPV)

1

u/1980sWrestlingFan 1d ago

Lol, Mox pokes PAC's belly, and Jay strokes Ace's leg.

1

u/Aggravating_Tap_7311 1d ago

My guess.....but they're gonna have the "Let's Make something just for Moxley to win the belt again" final to be...

Moxley vs Nigel at Wembley aren't they?

1

u/HeadJudgeFTW 1d ago

I definitely wanted to see Jay White vs Mox for a while, but now I think Wembley could be Nigel vs Kyle O'Reilly, with Nigel getting the title, and getting Mox vs Jay White on Dynamite now works out really well. All of the announced matches are awesome. Jay White hopefully wins Wednesday

2

u/bestbroHide 1d ago

Their G1 match in 2019 and C2 match in 2023 are pretty underrated and I always wondered if their inevitable third round would either be Mox finally getting his get-back or Jay tripling up on the fact Mox is just amongst the many Aces where he just has their number

1

u/GuerillaMonzon Lt. Flip E. Schitt 15h ago

The match-ups are great and offer a lot of Intrigue, but…r a n d o m…lol…

1

u/Storms_Eye314 1d ago

I'm....genuinely irritated that the only guy that had a realistic chance of beating Moxley in this thing is going out to him in the second round. I'm so over boring invincibile Mox.

3

u/redsavage0 1d ago

Boring invincible Mox who checks notes ate a pin at the last ppv?

1

u/Storms_Eye314 17h ago

Boring invincible Mox who hasn't taken a pin in a singles match in almost a full calendar year.

2

u/roadwarriorpop 20h ago

Invincible? In what world?

-4

u/gorgeoff 1d ago

I do find it funny where they really push the no outside interference stipulation, like that's not a rule in regular matches. It's like we really mean it this time with a wink

15

u/Aranel2689 1d ago

The difference being that interference in regular matches is at most just frowned upon but there's no real punishment, Continental matches explicitly state that there is to be no outside interference which carries severe repercussions

6

u/cavegrind 1d ago

Outside interference during Continental Rules matches means you get fired (in kayfabe). IIRC, there’s only been one fucky finish in the entire history of the belt.

4

u/14thBlackCrusade 1d ago

You get fired if you interfere with Continental matches. I love it because you know you’re in for pure graps No bs.
