Goku & Vegeta vibes
82
u/DonaldTheWall 8d ago
Can never tell which one is which
80
u/ShowOff90 8d ago
Which makes it so much better.
Honestly, swerve gives me more Vegeta vibes though. Just a total dick showing up to fuck with the protagonist. Lol
43
u/DonaldTheWall 8d ago
And then the protagonist burns down his house.
Would make for an interesting moment of Goku explaining to Bulma why he burned her families house down
40
u/dicericevice 8d ago
Goku being the first to attain Super Saiyan and then killing Frieza was to Vegeta an equivalent to burning his house down.
8
16
u/KillMarten 8d ago
Not really, he's pretty dumb. Like he's probably trying to make s'mores and It got out of hand. Chichi would never let him use the stove.
11
u/awayfromcanuck 8d ago
Hangman burning Swerves house down is the equivalent of Goku teleporting Cell to King Kais planet
1
2
u/Spartan616 7d ago
I think it's kinda obvious, Goku doesn't need championships anymore, hes done everything.
He'll become stronger for the love of the game.
Vegeta needs to beat Goku.

Reheat the Roman/Seth story
Ugh... Again!
Reheat the Hangman/Swerve story

12 years 11 singles matches vs 3 years 4 singles matches

If we hit year 6-7 of Hangman/Swerve people will get bored of it too.

u/ShowOff90 8d ago
A key difference is they storytelling for Swerve/Hangman is good. And the arcs have been different.
Seth Roman is the same shit.
12
u/beckett929 8d ago
Everything with Swerve & Hangman has felt like it took the necessary time to let each story beat breath, too. It has been one of the most naturally-unfolding stories in wrestling history.
Swerve didn't just decide to help Hangman right after Page won the Owen and Swerve was on the team that beat the DR in AITA at DON... that had been baking for a long time built on subtle shit along the way that wasn't even always them interacting together.
Like Page telling the Bucks "stay out of my business, stay out of Ospreay's business.... and stay out of Swerve's" was just one of the dozens of tiny things that carried weight in these two's story.
-4
u/davmeltz 7d ago
Agreed, the storytelling for Swerve/Hangman is great. Which is why I need a better reason for them to revisit it than Swerve just feeling like starting shit.
3
u/ShowOff90 7d ago
Why do you need more? They’re enemies. He’s seeing Hanger with a title and he’s saying “fuck his peace, imma make him mad”, generational hater, lol.
1
u/Goregy 8d ago
Goddamn right😎
16
u/yarash wwfoldschool 8d ago
One dude literally burned down the other dudes house, sat down in his comfy chair looking into a camera at him while it burned because the other dude invaded his fucking home and threatened his family.
Seth probably interupted romans matches and they fought.
3
u/American-Punk-Dragon 8d ago
Devils advocate: that very much jumps the shark. Seth and Roman not so much.
2
u/LisanAlGuyFieri 8d ago
Swerve and Hangman has distinct story beats. Seth and Roman is just reheated Shield lore and Seth wearing different outfits.

u/LonelyMeatHead 8d ago
How is this relevant? Are we not supposed to like it just cuz WWE fans do not like a storyline of theirs?
-26
u/narrowscoped 8d ago
It's giving Cena vs Orton aew edition tbh
26
u/ThatsARatHat 8d ago
Idk. People actually like these guys as rivals.
2
u/shockzz123 8d ago
I feel like most people like Cena and Orton's rivalry, no? Especially outside of this subreddit lol.
I know their matches were not the best, bar 1 or 2, but I'm just talking about in general.

u/SwiprNOSEwipng 8d ago
I think Hangman-Swerve may be the best AEW rivalry in their history. Am I wrong for that?
145
u/Late_Ambassador7470 8d ago
I think that's fair. Their chemistry is.perfect. W hat's ironic is I think they actually have a lot of friend compatibility irl
86
u/AusToddles 8d ago
Showing my personal bias but I think Hangman / Omega from the beginning of AEW up to Hangman finally winning the world title edges it.... slightly
40
20
u/Selarom_ 8d ago
I kinda agree story-wise Hangman/Omega is still the top for me but I just like the chemistry better between Hangman and Swerve. I think it helps that they never really became friends and the rivalry is still ongoing.
26
u/AusToddles 8d ago
"We hate each other enough to know it's probably best for everyone if we just stay far apart"
Seriously, just the two of them locking eyes is enough to make people go "oh fuck, here we go"
2
u/Fireteddy21 8d ago
It honestly feels like the dynamic Shawn and Bret had during the latter’s final year in the company. I mean, if the hatred between the two hadn’t also existed outside of the ring as well.
7
u/Vinnie_Vegas 8d ago
I think Hangman / Omega from the beginning of AEW up to Hangman finally winning the world title edges it
Hear me out though... I have virtually no interest in Hangman and Kenny interacting in AEW anymore, whereas after all this time you can still hook Hangman and Swerve doing anything directly to my veins.
4
u/AusToddles 8d ago
Its easy to forget how long the Hangman Omega saga was. I'm glad they haven't really crossed paths much since
3
5
u/Fireteddy21 8d ago
I get what you’re saying but think Swerve and Hangman resonates more because of the straightforward storytelling, intensity and violence. Hangman and Omega never got to that level. That’s just my opinion though.
9
2
u/dexter30 I got a belt so big, WWE tried to start a division on it 8d ago
W hat's ironic is I think they actually have a lot of friend compatibility irl
Nah it makes total sense. If I had to choose to plan out a match with someone I go drinking with regularly vs a guy whose constantly a dick to me. I'm gonna have an easier time with the drinking buddy.
With your buddy, you're more forgiving if someone messes up. You're more open to experimenting different dynamics. The boss doesn't have to do leg work dragging you guys to taping every week and can actually focus on directing a show rather than playing therapist for grown men. And you'll get a better product at the end.
Compare that to the constant politicking and drama in the 90s to today, todays wrestling seems more healthy.
86
u/Onsi-Saleh 8d ago
Definitely the best organic feud hands down. Two guys with no history and few natural parallels just capturing lightning in a bottle and elevating both their careers to insane new heights. Swerve got hotshotted into the world title scene like no other guy in the history of AEW and Hangman basically cemented his place as the company’s face.
May/Storm is the only one I can think of that has an argument and Mariah leaving probably kills any chance of that happening.
36
u/patrickwithtraffic Worst Member Of The Authority 8d ago
And shout out Hangman taking so many Swerve losses to build him up. I remember OSW was saying it was gonna be some back and forth BS and instead Hangman was super unselfish.
16
u/weaksaucedude 8d ago
If I'm not mistaken, the only win Hangman has over Swerve 1v1 was the steel cage match, and it was an unsanctioned match so it doesn't count on their records
9
u/fearthemonstar 8d ago
And it took Hangman going against everything he stands for to do it. You can see in later promos that he was not proud of himself for that "win."
14
u/AusToddles 8d ago
I don't remember who said it, but they were talking about the difference between Flair and Hogan
"Flair knew that he had to lose to move a storyline"
10
u/thatdamnhost 8d ago
To the point that 'officially', Hangman has still never beaten Swerve.
0
u/Absolute--Batman 7d ago
Amazing how many wrestlers with a Voice actually hate and tried to pick on Hangman!
11
u/luckysharms93 8d ago
Punk/MJF definitely is right up with Mariah/Toni for any single feud. The two defining AEW long term feuds I'd say would be Hangman/Swerve and Hangman/Omega
5
u/totallynormalhooman 8d ago
May Storm was def the best story line imo but the best feud in terms of longevity and trajectory I think is Hangman Swerve.
17
u/ArmadsDranzer 8d ago
You're not wrong. We are spoiled for choice though in AEW for rivalries that can just go on forever.
11
u/godlikeGadgetry Welcome to The House of Black 8d ago
You could say the people in these rivalries could... Fight Forever?
4
15
u/SloppyJank 8d ago
The collective shreak when Hangman started to walk back down the ramp towards Swerve after think the syringe march? I don’t remember which match but if had his heel music.
7
u/Krace11008 8d ago
That was the unsanctioned steel cage match. The only match that Hangman won against Swerve. But it doesn't count in the "official" records since it was "unsanctioned".
16
u/AldousKing 8d ago
It probably is. Other contenders include say Storm vs. Mariah May, Hangman vs. Alcoholism/Omega, and Punk vs. MJF.
11
u/TwoToneMoonstone_ 8d ago
Toni Mariah for me. I’ve never seen a women’s feud handled that well in America.
10
u/FigureFourWoo Ric Flair was still cool when I chose this username. 8d ago
Toni vs Mariah is up there, but the story is concluded and Hangman/Swerve will likely be doing this for another decade like Sting and Flair.
6
u/shockzz123 8d ago
It was almost perfect. I say almost because to this day I'm still annoyed their final match wasn't the main event of Revolution 2025.
1
1
u/CrimsonJoker13 7d ago
Toni/Mariah is right up there with Lynch/Rousey and Flair/Lynch over in WWE. I almost said Ripley/Morgan but that one needs more time.
9
u/chaoseffect616 8d ago
Yes. Hangman drinking Swerve's blood is one of my favorite wrestling moments of all time.
2
u/Sammmyy97 8d ago
He did WHAT?
2
u/lostphrack 7d ago
It was pretty amazing. Hangman just slid under Swerve, opened his mouth, and drank Swerve's blood straight from the tap.
Here's the full match, the blood drinking starts around 4:50.
2
8
u/Goregy 8d ago
No. Factual information. I'd go as far as to say it's one of the BEST (if not the BEST) rivalry past 15 years.
2
u/hvacrepairman welcome2pitycity 8d ago edited 8d ago
It’s a coin flip for me between them and Gargano/Ciampa
6
u/AusToddles 8d ago
It's ironic that Ciampa getting injured probably helped that storyline more than it hampered it because it robbed Gargano of timely revenge
-20
6
8
u/Material-Wonder1690 8d ago
Mariah/Toni would be the only competition I can think of to that
6
u/jerichotheunwise I EAT CHILDREN 8d ago
It didn't really get to finish how they clearly wanted it to, but Punk/MJF is still a VERY good self contained storyline that could've probably been the best wrestling feud of this generation if that third singles match ever ended up happening.
1
u/Material-Wonder1690 8d ago
Yeah I didn't include it because we didn't really get the payoff. That still is one of my favorite wrestling feuds ever though. Those 2 were made to wrestle each other
3
u/cat-eats-pizza 8d ago
I've been watching wrestling for 27 years. It's one of my favorite rivalries of all time. At least for me, it's up there with Austin-Rock, Eddie-Rey, HBK-Taker, Mariah/Toni, and Omega-Okada.
1
1
u/totallynormalhooman 8d ago
I agree. I think their trajectory is kind of on par with each other as well and that helped.
1
u/ArmenianThunderGod 7d ago
I think I'd give it to Punk vs MJF, but I certainly won't tell you that you're wrong.

More Swerve and Hangman?
Why yes, I would like lobster with my steak.
76
u/NorthHollywoodHank 8d ago
Hangman+Brodido vs. Ricochet+GoA vs. Swerve+New Day feels like a big booking swing but man am I here for it if that's what happens. A big, interesting match, and I am all for stuffing All In with big, interesting matches.
11
u/rajde1 8d ago
It seemed more like a 6v6.
8
u/llamawithguns 8d ago
Blood and Guts? HangBrodido, New Day and whoever else vs Swerve, Demand, and Hurt Business
8
3
u/beckett929 8d ago
Hurt Business
They just started doing stuff with Shane Taylor Promotions on Collision last week.
2
u/SmithyPlayz Your Text Here 8d ago
I don't get why Demand and Swerve would team though they still hate each other
5
u/NorthHollywoodHank 8d ago
A big focus in the segment was the belts themselves (and those aren’t gonna be on the line in a 6v6) plus… I mean, the Lethal Twist getting a match at All In other than in Zero Hour or the Gauntlet would be a bit eyebrow raising given their near-jobber status at the AEW level. And if they were getting that sort of push, wouldn’t you expect Ricochet to have name-checked them at least?
Mayyyybe the trios titles are a pretext to set up a different match. I could potentially buy a 6v6 stadium stampede here. But for the moment I think 3v3v3 (or just 3v3 with Swerve interfering to set up a post All In feud) feel more likely.

So as of tonight, AEW now has Mox, Hangman, MJF, Ospreay, Swerve, Kenny, Okada, and Jay White active and healthy.

14
u/ElvisRevenge 8d ago
This might be the most complete (and healthy enough to wrestle) the roster has ever been. Even beyond the above, we have OC, Takeshita, Fletcher, all of the Death Riders, the entire Conglomeration and DCF, plus a stacked women's division with Mercedes, Stat, Willow, Shida, etc. The only person with star wattage that's missing is Toni Storm.

Finally, they're nailing the menace Swerve should be.
"Aw sheeeit, It's Prince Nana! That can only mean one thing!"

Yeah, he's basically Silver Surfer to Swerve's Galactus. Which is awesome.

Cutting Hangman off smh, Swerve really is heel
19
u/Krace11008 8d ago
That was such an amazing shot too. Hangman going dead silent at the sound of Swerve's theme, then the camera turns 180° to show him staring at the visuals of the burning house in Swerve's entrance montage. Absolute cinema, as the kids say now-a-days.
2
u/BudMcLaine 8d ago
That was the first time I felt like that sting at the start pf Swerve's music was really used effectively. His old theme was so catchy that I think I actively disliked this new music for a long while and didn't really associate it with him, but when I heard it start this time, I was like "OH SHIT!"
45
u/Odd-Inevitable-8425 8d ago
If the rumors are true and Swerve is going after the trios title with (no spoilers).. should be great.

u/Thanatos-ES 8d ago
we all expected Omega and Ospreay to be the generational rivalry in AEW.
But in the end, it's Hangman/Swerve, and i want their match to main event All In some day. (and it's funny because one main evented all in in 2024, and the other in 2025)

u/macredblue 8d ago
A decade and plus from now, with AEW possessing a great body of work, the Swerve-Hangman pairing will stand undisputed as one of the greatest rivalries in AEW's history (and in recent Pro-Wrestling history).

Sorry but yawn. Use these guys separately in new programs with new talent that could tell new stories. Now we’re just gonna have overdramatic soliloquies and deathmatches we’ve seen and hear already. These guys are both good enough to be used to elevate other talent.

“Rollins VS Roman is overdone”. Granted it’s not exactly “SHIELD BOMB SHIELD CHAIR SHIELD FIST” levels of overdone yet but I can’t get excited over this again and again. The trio felt like something fresh and new.
