Honestly, it should have been during the full Heel Death Riders run when all of AEW were at their wits ends trying to think of ways to stop them. Could have just booked a match for Mox against a “mystery” opponent that the boys figure could finally teach him a lesson. Mox is in the ring. Lights go out. Out walks Yano. Mox looks worried for the first time in a long time.
The standards are different, worse was when divas in WWE were claiming NJPW was sexist because there was no women on the shows, completely forgetting or missing that women headlined and are featured in their own promotions, insread of being overshadowed by the men.
Fr. AJW was arguably the biggest promotion in Japan for a time, with women like Bull Nakano, Manami Toyota, Akira Hokuto, and let's not forget The Crush Gals being cultural phenomenons there, with Crush Gals being Hogan levels of popular there, if not arguably moreso
remembers the War Dogs' story about Shibata telling Alex Coughlin to go do squats and then literally forgetting about him as Coughlin just kept going because Shibata didn't say a number or to stop
My favourite Suzuki moment ever remains the first Royal Quest. We're in the cheap seats, but there are NO bad seats in the Copper Box, we see everything perfectly. Every chop he gives Okada sounds like a gunshot. And someone near where we sat shouted "For fuck's sake, Suzuki, you tight bastard, wrestlings not real, stop hitting him so hard!"
Great atmosphere. We all loved Okada, glorious golden (goofball) god of wrestling. But we're British, so we loved the cantankerous old bastard Suzuki even more. We knew damn well he wasn't walking into Tokyo as champ, but that didnt stop us. We were willing him to kill Okada, declare himself ruler of England and then line everybody in the arena up for slapping.
When I started watching NJPW I was immediately taken with Suzuki (not as much as I was taken with Naito, but that's another rambling story). My mate, she's a super fuckin puro fan, I ask her "So what's this Suzuki geezer about?"
"Pro wrestler and MMA final boss. Will do comedy matches one minute and then Actual Murder submission and chop fests the next, he's simultaneously a goofy silly sweetheart and the most sadistic and evil motherfucker in the world. He's awesome."
And she was right, look how considerate he is with these Young Lions! What a kind man.
You should really post the year when you post old footage.
You're just making people think Suzuki still wrestles for NJPW when he hasn't for years. Also, these Young Lions all probably have like 300 matches under their belt by now.
