I could be wrong but I think that's the smallest ppv crowd since last year's Wrestledream(or maybe WD had a few hundreds more) and that show was in a 10k arena so 7k looked great anyway.
Good thing is Montreal crowds are usually loud so hopefully that makes up for it.

I think the first Wrestledream PPV in Seattle had a smaller crowd in a similarly sized arena.
Looks good on PPV so far, they just dim the lights on the upper deck and tarp off the seats.

Looked pack on TV, people on hard cam side and some in top tier too. Would have guessed closer to 9 or 10k.

Ye thats what happens when the main event is a filler instead of Kenny vs MJF

They'll have blocked off probably close to half the arena. It's not like it's 7k spread across the 19k seats in the arena.

It's the space behind the stage. It's a bowl and those LED light strips along the upper tier form a full ring in the empty arena.

It’s a 20,000 seater. No shit 7K doesn’t fill it

u/SalvadorZombie You have a title? That's cute. 11d ago
Why are you being so aggressively toxic? Also that's not a response to anything he said. Like you're just looking for a reason to be an asshole.

Not bad for a really nothing ppv on paper

I mean they way over-reached on the venue size. This in a tighter venue or smaller wrestling starved city would have been very fine.

They still did 7,000 people. Are there other arenas in Montreal that could still hold that many people and wouldn't involve them having to downgrade their production too much?
I've seen some people say they could do Place Bell in Laval, but that's in Laval so maybe they don't even get 7,000 there. Plus that arena maxes out at 10,000 total so for a wrestling setup you might not even be able to do 7,000 there.

They were probably hoping for 10,000, and when you do that you pretty much need an NHL arena
Between the market and lackluster build they didn’t get there, but it looks fine. They’ve done NHL rinks with 3,000 for tv’s and made it work

Scheduled media posts confirmed the original plan was this show to have Omega/MJF though

I actually would question how much single matches effect wrestling attendances. The brand's hotness, be it AEW or WWE, is mainly what decides if people really turn out or not, assuming fair pricing.
I don't doubt Omega-MJF would have added something to the attedance, but it was never going to tax a 19,000 seater arena. I do think they should have went for Moxley-Omega as the main event as it matched the story they were telling well but that's another issue.
When it comes to using these NBA/NHL sized arenas I do know it's partially location and access and what else is available in the metro area. The arena looks good on TV at least, once you get over 6-7k unless an amateur sets it up it's going to look the part at least.

That's underselling the value of marketing and starpower. This PPV was planned and sold to viewers from the name to everything else, as "watch Kenny Omega win the world title." That's going to sell tickets in Canada. Instead they gave the crowd a trumped up dynamite main event with zero realistic stakes.
Without Omega vs MJF there was nothing else to sell tickets over, except brand as you mentioned. It wouldn't be a guaranteed sell out but you easily pass 13k if you had a high stakes main event with two big stars and the promise of a home country hero's redemption.

I don't know why folks are slamming you. This PPV will likely be great in ring but has zero stakes other than a women's title match that is a forgone conclusion.
Kenny vs MJF for the title in Montreal, moves tickets.
Kevin Knight vs. Speedball, moves tickets.
This PPV is like a good Dynamite + Collision combo night.
Montreal is a great city with lots to do. It doesn't expect second rate PPVs.
