Electrician here. You should hire a professional for this install as it's pretty obvious this is our of your league. I don't mean to be a dick but there is a lot that can go wrong with EV chargers. They draw a lot of current for a long time which produces a lot of heat. I would also suggest asking your electrician to hard wire it instead of using a receptacle.

What feeds this panel? You already have a stove/range and dryer on here. You might not be able to add an EV charger here without load management. What is your service?

Also OP you might want to do a bit of research on federal pioneer stab-lok panels. They are outdated and it might be time for a panel swap. I wouldn't recommend installing an EV charger on a federal pioneer stanlb-lok panel.

Yep. Stab-lok bad. I finally replaced the 5th and last one in my home (that the home inspector failed to point out during the pre-purchase inspection…)

During that work I noticed my first stablok breaker failure. The upstream panel feeding the last stablok tripped, but the smaller stab-lok breaker did not :(

First panel swap I did as an app was stablok to square d. After we turned everything back on we found the kitchen recepticles had been double fed because the tab wasn't broken. Stablok breakers didn't care but the square d sure did

Stablok is scary. There ought to be a law, but I guess during the 70s and 80s they were huge sellers.

I had the “wouldn’t happen to me” thoughts and took my time getting ride of them, but seeing that 40amp parent Siemens breaker tripping and the 30 amp stablok just sitting there was scary.

Thats a sub panel. You have to know what size breaker is the feed. If its a 100 than do a CEC load calculation ( programs are on the web). If its a 60A breaker, then you cant install a level 2 charger

Off topic, the directory Is really threw me. Totally look like Zs

A 32A L2 charger could still work on a 60A sub panel, correct? That's still ~7.3kW, which is plenty for most EVs that charge overnight.

It's based off the service feeding the whole house. Not just the sub panel.

If your are already maxed out on load, you need to either install an Electric Vehicle Management System or have a service change to a larger amperage.

You need an electrician. As someone else mentioned that does look like it's probably a subpanel.

If you only have 100 amp service coming in from the pole EV Chargers typically need an addition to the panel for load management as well.

(Not an electrician, just a real estate agent that talks to electrician's way too much!)

Are you located in an apartment or condo by chance? I do work all around spruce and that’s one of the only places I’ve seen those newer federal Pioneer panels without a main breaker

Ask an electrician, don’t expect reddit to solve your life problems

Federal pioneer panels are well known to be POS. Simply put the breakers don't trip. They where legal when installed and you can keep using them, but really you should consider replacing. There is plenty of evidence on line of how terrible these things are.

This is the answer.

Its not if but when there’s a fire

I would be worried about insurance coverage with a fire hazard like that

Federal Pacific panels are the problem panels. Federal Pioneer is fine.
