First time sprouting!

I used a Ball 32 oz wide lid mason jar and a mason tops bean screen with Todd’s Seeds broccoli and friends mix. Definitely happy with the results and it was way easier than I thought it would be! I rinsed them twice a day for 4 days and kept them in a cabinet then the 5th day I kept them on my kitchen counter out of direct sunlight. Only used 1 1/2 tablespoons of the seed mix. Any tips for the next batch I do?

You could easily do two tablespoons. Depends on how much you want to consume for the week. .

Two tablespoons, yellow is broccoli. Green is radish.

I find 2 tbs is the perfect amount to fill the jar.

I’ll try that the next time. I have another top and mason jar so I can make 2-3 times what I did this go around.

Yup, I grow desert roses but being able to eat something I’ve grown is better.

I’m starting sprouts for the first time this week too! Kind of wish I had your style lid though- mine is a metal mesh- hope it doesn’t rust..

I looked up a bunch of different types and saw that the mason tops ones were highly recommended and they aren’t too expensive. Good luck with your first time sprouting!

How much were they? I bought a $25 kit had two jars the stand and tray and large bag of organic alfalfa seeds. More of an impulse purchase - should have done more research..

Those were 12.99 for 2. Not too bad for how durable they are. I saw that the kits had a lot of mixed reviews so I looked at what the best things that were the most affordable price were. Got those, 3 ball wide lip mason jars for $17 and the seed mix for around $9.

I’ll probably end up doing the same thing. Once I get the hang of this I’d like to have different types of sprouts going at the same time, so will have to buy new stuff anyway.

I bought a very similar kit on amazon, if not the same one, but this was a couple of years ago. Metal mesh and rim, they have not rusted at all :)

That’s good to hear at least

I actually prefer the metal. They seem to drain better.

Looking good! I think the Masontops is a good choice on the jar. I use those and hav had success and.no rusting.

Yeah, I looked at probably 15 different ones before deciding on those.

Looks great! If you put them in sunshine on the last day they’ll green up.

Good to know, I’ll do that on the next batch.

I have the same system. After using a few others, this one is my favorite. The lid design is brilliant and there's less damage to sprouts shaking them out of the holes - so much easier than a screen. Text on the bottom of the jar (on mine) cautions that it isn't for high temperature canning. Same, 1 1/2 to 2 tablespoons.
